Another reviewer who thinks Chokehold is about S&M. Why do they immediately jump to this conclusion? He is a 21 year old blogger from England who does not write all that well. I really don't even care what his opinion is. Another reviewer who thinks Chokehold is about S&M. Why do they immediately jump to this conclusion? He is a 21 year old blogger from England who does not write all that well. I really don't even care what his opinion is. That review was lulzy in its attempt to be clever. Yeah, some random blogger. Don't think this one will make Metacritic. ;D And just to weigh in on the missed-notes debate. I, too, value the opinions of our master class specialists, and although I can hear the occasional missed notes, I'm fine with them. I'm still transported by AL's voice. I'm wondering, tho', if our tendency to nit-pick every note is a side effect of many of us first hearing AL on Idol? I watched the show in seasons before AL (and after--passively) and listened critically for sour notes--like any armchair viewer of the show, but tbh I never expected to actually be following and purchasing music from someone on the show (self-confessed recovering former rock and alt music snob). By now I have heard literally hundreds of performances by AL. This is certainly a new phenomenon where we can do this--listen to every freaking note performed anywhere in the world, from mermish cell casts to pristine HD network livecasts, over three years. I am sure if every note Freddie ever sang were recorded for immediate public scrutiny, there would be plenty of bum ones. This is not to take away from Freddie--who was clearly a musical genius. But it DOES kind of bug me that I seem to hold AL to a higher standard and listen for whether he hits notes rather than just be totally swept away by the performance (although I usually am anyway--I swear the arena was practically levitating in just the from-the-sidewalk vid of WWTLF soundcheck!) I've never liked a singer specifically because they could sing well and remain totally unmoved by Christina, Mariah, Celine, Kelly, and, yes, Whitney--while I can say they have extraordinary voices. And yet I love many unconventional voices. AL's voice is an outlier and transcendent to me because of this clear belltone I hear. Can't really compare it to anyone. Anyway, don't have much of a point of reference. After all, I'm a big Bob Dylan and Neil Young fan, and I've seen both many times in concert, but I'm hardly gonna be picking apart their ability to hit notes! Dylan's voice is a very unpleasant rasp these days. Other than that, the only concerts I've been attending lately are tweener autotune fests. So I remain a little perplexed. :dunno:
