I've only heard the song twice so I don't quite know the lyrics and can't find them transcribed anywhere yet...

- Jayce Lewis said that Roger's friend and studio cohort Joshua J. Macrae came and saw Jayce in concert and began talking about music.  Jayce asked if Roge rmight want to hear anything, so Joshua told him to get him some copies.  He did and Roger dug it and offered to play on this track.  Jayce was overjoyed and said he wasn't surprised as it was an anthemic song of the We Will Rock You variety.

PERSONAL NOTES: I have to admit it's nice to hear RT on something so heavy as they've been doing more and more pop/rock type of material.  It' s not a song I would write home about, but it's pretty cool....

- From Kerry's new album which surprisingly has only this track as a collaboration with Brian.  I mean he was busy with QAL, but I find it strange that he's not promoting the album.

PERSONAL NOTES: Very similar to the acoustic version they did in concert but nice to have a studio rendition.

- BBC launched BBC Music by remaking the Beach Boys classic with an all star lineup. Brian features heavily on guitar.

PERSONAL NOTES: A bit of a cheesy remake but Brian is absolutely solid and I love all the voices for the most part.

Hi talon, these were our first Queen concerts and my family and I were blown away. I'm glad TALC vids recorded all of Brian's guitar solo.  Truly breathtaking and the audience was totally immersed. This was July 28 show.

Live at the Rainbow '74

A little background

A young and hungry band at the time, Queen longed to play the legendary Rainbow Theatre. At the time that was the height of their ambition. As well all know they went much further than that! BUT in 1974 they did three gigs at this legendary theater. One on March 31st which was at the end of the UK leg of the Queen II tour. Then they came back for what was scheduled as a one time stop on November 19th which sold out so quickly they added a second night. This was during the Sheer Heart Attack tour. Even in 8 months you see how the band has evolved.

The March show was filmed and recorded for a proposed third album to give the band time in the studio before their next album. For whatever reason, it was shelved not to be heard from again for 40 years. The November gigs were also filmed and this time there was some use...Edited down to about...half the gig (and severely edited on that) the film was played in theaters before Led Zeppelin's famous film The Song Remains The Same. This same edit was put on VHS tape and released in The Box Of Tricks.

NOW though finally after forty years, a complete box set is released. This is the full audio of the March gig. A highlight of this is the inclusion of The Fairy Feller's Master-stroke. Before this release it was thought the band had most likely never performed this track live as it never had been on any bootleg. It had been made mention of during Greg Brooks' live documentary book but there had been several mistakes in the book so it was discounted. Unfortunately the visual portion of the March show was mostly lost and only ten minutes remained in the Queen archive and was included as bonus material on the blu ray. The November concerts were put in one gig (a compilation of two nights) and a full filmed version was also released.

Included in the deluxe set is a 64 page book full of interesting pictures and liner notes including some reviews of shows at the times. There are also reproductions of posters, tickets, and other curios. All in all a phenomenal release. Simply phenomenal. My favorite release since Made In Heaven.

Roger Taylor - Best

A little history

A long time coming, Roger releases a best of compilation, a year after a career retrospective box set in The Lot (of which I'll detail
soon along with 2000's Freddie Mercury Box Set.)  Best was hand picked by Roger according to the liner note as to be the best loved tracks of his solo career that does NOT include any material recorded with The Cross.  It is only from his five solo albums and his initial solo single.    It does, imo, offer a fair introduction into Roger's solo material with his first solo single, a few of his 80s tracks which have aged well despite some synth heavy moments and his 90s material which date very nicely and including two songs from his 2013 album as well. There are some songs that are surprisingly not included - including some that were singles at the time (such as My Country or Pressure On) but overall it's a good selection.  My only criticism is that I wish they had shaken up the track listing a bit so it wasn't 99% chronological.  If you switch up tracks 1-2 you get a complete chronological order.  But I digress.
