I know I don't pop my head in too much for non-QAL related but today's discussion has been interesting. I wanted to point out that there may be a third option between no album and new album...a what I'd call a half new release album.
Perfect example (and perhaps where the idea came from maybe?) Brian May and Kerry Ellis' Golden Days Album - released April 7, 2017.
Track listing:
1. Love In A Rainbow 4:30
2. Roll With You 3:54
3. Golden Days 4:21
4. It's Gonna Be All Right (The Panic Attack Song) 3:45
5. Amazing Grace 2:48
6. One Voice 3:21
7. If I Loved You 3:33
8. Born Free 3:11
9. Parisienne Walkways 3:43
10. I Who Have Nothing 4:07
11. The Kissing Me Song 3:43
12. Story Of A Heart 4:22
13. Can't Help Falling In Love 3:13
Seems like a big album until you look a little deeper.
Track 2: Roll With You, initially released as a non-album single - Feb 23, 2016 Track 5: Amazing Grace, initially released as a non-album single - April 29, 2016 Track 6: One Voice, initially released as a non-album single - April 13, 2015 Track 8: Born Free, initially released as a non-album single - November 5, 2012 (!!!!) Track 11: The Kissing Me Song, initially released as a non-album single - April 20, 2013
So that's 5/13 tracks dripped and drabbed over the years as non album singles.
So what if that's the new plan? You release a song here, a song there, a track here and there, and then collect them on an album and add a few more tracks so it's half an album - the concept being more like 5 lead singles.
Brian and Kerry still released Panic Attack after the album dropped as a single. Roger has already been on record as saying albums really aren't the thing anymore and he was just going to drop songs when they happened - much like he did with Journey's End.
Adam it would seem to me to be the perfect artist to try that kind of strategy with.
Of course I literally have no idea what WB/Adam's plans are - I just saw these ideas and figured I'd throw in an in between one...

Did my part - Bought Two Fux, and even have set it up to stream on repeat on my computer, when I left to go for a run.
I will say I haven't seen credits but of the initial question about whether that was Brian..No chance in hell. If it is I'd be really surprised. The first two notes sound Mayesque but after that it doesn't sound much like him. I could be wrong.
My thoughts on 2F? It's good. It's a step closer to what I'd want, though still too much under the clubby dancy banner for my tastes. I do like the melody, especially the chorus parts. and i like the bouncy string part. The only negative I'd say is that if he's hoping this will draw in and keep fans he's winning over from the Queen camp, I don't think this studio version would be the one.
In order to fuse his classic rock and today's modern pop feel, I'd love to see Adam take a song written by someone in that realm like Justin Hawkins (like on FYE) or a Butch Walker, or even a Brian May, but then record it with a modern producer. ..or as I'm writing - maybe working with Butch Walker overall would do him wonders. Butch had a glam rock type band, Marvelous 3 then he turned solo artist, and now is a writer/producer. Since 2012 he's produced:
Pink – The Truth About Love (2012) Taylor Swift – Red (2012) Fall Out Boy – Save Rock and Roll (2013) Panic! at the Disco – Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! (2013) Keith Urban – Fuse (2013) – Even the Stars Fall 4 U Frank Turner – Positive Songs for Negative People (2015) Brian Fallon – Painkillers (2016) Carly Rae Jepsen - Everywhere You Look (2016)
Given his classic rock background and modern production success it might be a perfect marriage. (and he's also a Queen fan - he's done BoRap in concert many times as well as a few others)

Hopefully all goes well tonight. Reportedly Brian was under the weather last night. I mentioned my second favorite band yesterday, Extreme in one my posts. Well singer/frontman Gary and guitarist Nuno were at this small club Lucky Strikes last night and did a bunch of Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody with a small 12 person choir, Staying Power with a brass section... Well they are friends with Brian and Nuno announced that Brian was there and was supposed to come up and play Tie Your Mother Down with them but that he was under the weather...
So hopefully he gets some rest and feels better for tonight!

Let me sa y to everyone - that any discussion I have brought was never intended to bring Adam down, nor was it meant to dampen any elation about QAL.
BUT I just wanted to say, I don't want to bring people down. But I also am someone who doesn't allow a loud voice or two to shout down my very valid and honest opinion on things. Peace and love. Talon I hope you didn't feel I was singling you out with the highlighted part above. I ALWAYS appreciate the Queen information you bring us here and I respect and admire your love of Queen. I understand it. I look at Queen and QAL as two different things altogether...I appreciate each in a different way...but both make me happy and I love the music...and I feel the magic of them both. I love celebrating Adam and Freddie and I don't need to compare them..just enjoy them. And I feel that is probably what Adam would want us to do...Enjoy and Celebrate the Music! And I was definitely celebrating last night's concert....just like I still celebrate the 'moment in time' of the Live Aid Concert (Freddie and Queen captivating the whole world) when I watch the video. Love and Hugs Talon! Not at all. I merely liked and therefore appropriated the choice of words. Should have credited you

^ You know what I haven't mentioned that yet...It's Late is one of my fav all time Queen songs. In my ever rotating Top 5 and often interchanged with White Queen...And I will say that Adam sings it better than I thought he would. Given my well known position on Adam and hard rock songs, he does do this one quite well...and that's fine praise because it is a difficult track to pull off

Spread Your Wings. I have a photo of it I can't wait to see that - I hope it remains in the set. I like the added singalong - it was never really a true singalong during the olden days... I do like how they are re-arranging songs now and again. Not sure yet on the newer Somebody To Love - it's growing on me, but I had really liked the rock and roll church vibe of the 2014-2016 versions. But I like the idea of the rearrangements. I would love to see them try the slow-fast Hammer To Fall that Brian did back in the late 90s and again with Paul where it starts out as a ballad and then rocks out at the end....

Let me say to everyone - that any discussion I have brought was never intended to bring Adam down, nor was it meant to dampen any elation about QAL.
I have been a Queen fan for quite awhile now. I enjoyed when Paul Rodgers sang with Queen and thought it to be a distinctly new attempt at a new kind of band. Now, I have also quite enjoyed the QAL era - moreso than many of my Queen friends who have been ambivalent at best. You may find it interesting to know that with some of them, I'm on the opposite side of the fence, defending B&R's choice of Adam - telling them to give the gigs a shot because it's as close as we'll ever get to original Queen...
I *EVEN* found myself defending Adam to my daughter's 13 year old friend! She was sleeping over and my daughter talked about us going to see QAL and she mentioned having heard of Adam Lambert and liking Ghost Town. She had heard that Adam was going to tour with some old band but didn't know much about it. I let them watch the QAL Blu Ray and she loved the music. She heard Freddie's moments and asked about Freddie and of course I was happy to tell her about Queen. I lent her Queen's Greatest Hits and Live in Montreal and she came away much more of a Queen fan and didn't like how Adam sang Queen. I found myself defending Adam saying, well yeah he does it differently but it's a very worthy show and I had a great time at the gigs.
I thought seeing me on that side might make you laugh a bit...
BUT I just wanted to say, I don't want to bring people down. But I also am someone who doesn't allow a loud voice or two to shout down my very valid and honest opinion on things. Peace and love.

And yet his voice is still heard at the gigs Now be wary, the next paragraph will make you mad, the second might make you happy so be forewarned: Look, Freddie's "place" as frontman is forever. But we can thankfully have guests in that role which allow the music to thrive. Adam's not the first to fill the Queen + role. There was the Tribute concert there was a George Michael and Queen EP (which had some solo George stuff and some stuff from the Tribute concert), , there was a Queen + Elton John perfomance at the Bejart Ballet, there was a Queen concert with multiple guests in Amsterdam and Cape Town, there was 5 years of Queen + Paul Rodgers (who also played and sold out the Hollywood Bowl) He probably will be the last though and he just might be the one who has fit the bill best - the one who could do more with the catalogue than anyone since Freddie - and more importantly he is the one who makes Brian and Roger want to tour...so again I do thank the man for his presence. I do feel that Adam has earned his slot. I do feel that Adam is a wonderful vocalist and a wonderful performer. I guess I never thought much of guests doing a few songs. Lady Gaga was a guest. Paul and Adam are the only ones who went on tour with them, right? Yes that is true. There was a push at one point for George Michael but it never got very far. There was a push for Robbie Williams and they even went so far as to record together (a cover of We Are The Champions for a soundtrack)...but then Roger ixnayed it because he worried about Robbie flaking out. The only reason I brought guests up is that in terms of being Queen's front-man - anyone who is doing it is temporary. It's not about replacing Freddie. It's about singing with B&R. In 100 years from now, if someone mentions Queen's front man they will mean Freddie. Everyone else is a guest, with Paul and Adam being the most long term of those...and again I would agree and admit with Adam being the best fit out of them. But at some point, Paul moved on, and I'm sure at some point Adam will too whether because he wants to or because B&R choose to retire....AND I will be sad!

Adam has not replaced Freddie and these concerts are very different from the classic Queen concerts largely because of Adam. I view Q+AL As something new. In fact the when point of Adam's speech is that he's not Freddie. Well, that's an observation that leaves me scratching my head. Queen consists of original members of the original band playing a catalogue of their original music. Adam's vocals have brought the entire repertoire to life with a vitality that has been sorely missed. It's a transfusion. A rebirth. A reincarnation. But, it's QUEEN in all it's glory. Because of Adam. I, personally, believe Adam surpasses Freddie in singing, matches him in performing, but will never come close to him in songwriting. I can live with that. For Q + AL to be something "new" wouldn't that require "new" music? I'm certainly game for that, too! So let's get real. Despite his brilliance and iconic status, Freddie Mercury can't hit a single fucking note from beyond the grave. His "place" as frontman for Queen had to be "re"-filled. (See what I did there?) THANK GOD ADAM LAMBERT IS NOT FREDDIE MERCURY (ghosts can't sing, only moan) and was able to bring Queen back to life! A Rock Resurrection! Otherwise, what the hell would all of us here--and hundreds of thousands around the world-- being doing with our spare time and extra cash this summer? And yet his voice is still heard at the gigs Now be wary, the next paragraph will make you mad, the second might make you happy so be forewarned: Look, Freddie's "place" as frontman is forever.
