Its a very image concious world. PArtic the entertainment industry. I think Adam is working out hard, because he is aware of this. Image is everything and goes along way to commerical success. Look at Taylor she is living the princess lifestyle. Every guy wants to be with her, every girl wants to be like her. I am seeing Adams new look as glam rock prince on stage, but every day normal guy next door. I think that well help. Silly as it sounds Adam dancing with Miley Cyrus a few years ago helps too lol I know MANY young girls who would kill for Taylor Swift's 1) body and 2) her clothes.

There are many great contributors in this fandom, and madamimadam is the cream of the crop! Her organization of streamers during the QAL tour is just the tip of the iceberg. Look: Adams Angel @adamssangel
The incredible, fully restored 'Treasure Chest' by madamimadam of everything @adamlambert has done from AI days to now idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=662676 …Daaaaaaammmnn...!!!! I swear, between 4Ms, madamimadam, and peeps like lambobssed we've got the best documented Fandom EVAH !!!!!!!!!! And the Glamberts crashed the Glamberts. I just want to say that I'm so glad that we have all of our archivists in the fandom and that it's not just one person doing it all. It goes along with so many fan communities and the ability to work together like Q3 hosting the IdolForum peeps last week while they were waiting for a rebuild, and all the country specific fan sites. We are a great fandom.

Maybe he is having vocal issues (a la Adele) because of poor singing technique. Sam starting working with a vocal coach 12 years ago -- but in her interviews she sound more like a performance coach. Here is an interview with her: www.vh1.com/music/tuner/2015-02-05/sam-smith-vocal-coach-joanna-eden-team-celeb/I can't speak to the quality of his vocal technique but clearly he needs to make some kind of adjustment. I know nothing about vocals or vocal coaching, but not long ago I was in line to check out at a grocery store at a busy time of day and overheard a conversation between two people behind me who were talking about Sam Smith. One person was apparently a speech therapist, and perhaps also a vocal coach. It was unclear what the other one did, but it sounded as if she was involved in theater, perhaps musical theater, on a regional level. Anyway, the speech therapist was expressing her fears that Sam would have difficulties maintaining his voice because she could clearly hear some areas of poor technique. The theater person said, yes, it was obvious he was "straining." Who knows how accurate their assessment was, but didn't we learn in some article a while ago that in focus groups people turned out to prefer male voices that were straining? The focus group didn't know they were straining, of course, just preferred their "authentic" sound. Anyway, I hope Sam takes care of himself and learns some better techniques if that is what he needs. peace&love

We are a great fandom. I agreed. It is an amazing fandom. Unlike any I have ever known. The Queen fans are considered one of the most organized about concert recording and archiving -- and the comparison was pretty striking! Our passion and speed left most, not all, of them in the dust!

Showbiz is a strange biz to be in. Truer words never spoken.

There are a number of places where his voice is straining and crackling, not just grit. In addition, when he hits some high falsetto notes, the audience erupts in cheers. I've got it playing right now, and it is making my throat hurt. His teacher (I'd call her more of a mentor) has a very pleasant singing voice (video on 2nd page of the article).

It makes my throat tighten up, as it does when I hear a singer straining to reach a note, or hitting a note flat. My throat muscles automatically try to "fix" the other singer's voice. (gratefully, that almost never happens when I listen to Adam because he doesn't sound strained, and doesn't hit notes flat 99.5% of the time.) Cancelling six concerts in a tour sounds like vocal strain rather than illness. I wish him well and hope he finds a good trainer/coach. As to people preferring strained male voices, when I mentioned it once to Angelina, she laughed and said, "You know why, don't you? It's because it sounds like sex."
