I've always loved recaps that others have taken the time to do, following past concerts so-----here's mine:
OPENING NIGHT September 1st
It was a beautiful, warm, breezy Saturday morning when DH and I picked up my daughter and granddaughter on the way to the San Diego airport. We were on our way to see Adam and Queen on opening night in Las Vegas. Actually, I was going to see them alone in my first VIP front row seat on Saturday and my 2 girls would be coming on the second night,September 2nd. Hubby dropped us off and it was the beginning of a most magical time together. All the travel details went smoothly, and contrary to some of the reviews about the Park Theater, we had such an easy time checking in {an assistant was right at the kiosk to help,}no lines and we were in our room well before 3PM. My son had rented a scooter for me because of mobility issues and it was right there waiting for me at the hotel lobby. Wow! So far, so good. After settling into our room which was newly renovated,we went down for something to eat at the Prim Rose restaurant,{crazy prices!} It was soon time for me to head off to the VIP cocktail bar where I met some folks from all over-a nice couple from West Virginia with their daughter Emily who flew in from Denver and another friendly couple from Canada. {I looked around, but sadly didn't see any atoppers.} Looked up at the clock-----I had tons of butterflies in my stomach from the anticipatory excitement. Was this really happening?
AS I entered the theater, I noticed it was already almost full {about 20 minutes before 8.} An usher escorted me to my seat .OMG ! This was my first time in the front row-and thanks to SophieB ,she helped me pick the absolute best seat in secton 102 Row D . No one was going to block my view this time! I had been hearing about the "casual casino concert goers" and wondered if the audience would be kind of laid back. Conversing with people around me,everyone knew who Queen was, but several had never even heard of Adam. So you can imagine my thrill when the whole place automatically jumped to their feet when the wall went up ,screamed in ecstasy at the sight of Brian -and then gasped when they saw the Beautiful One with the regal purple coat! And---they never sat down again! The enthusiasm was overwhelming from the very beginning. Adam came right over and stood in front of us. In person, the coat fits him perfectly, sleek and sexy looking, not bulky at all ,as it appears in some of the concert videos. I loved his hair, his magnificent smile, and THAT VOICE! He looks smaller in person to me,thinner and even more gorgeous than his pictures-if that's possible. Up close you can also see the effort and technique he puts into his vocals. It reminded me of how he looked in the images on AI when he was singing. He works hard up there! As many have noted, he loves to look right at you when he's on stage and I thought I would be uncomfortable with that. Not so---I smiled right back at him and I will keep those moments in my heart forever. Brian also came over and it was amazing to see the energy of that guitar master at work. He looked a little tired to me,{less so the next night} but he seemed to be so happy with the audience reception from the very beginning.
Concert videos that have been posted, have already shown how incredible and fabulous the show was, so I'll try not to be repetitious. Heartbreak Hotel was a delightful surprise {I would have loved to have heard ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? but I guess that would have been too much of a downer on such a festive occasion.} Under Pressure gave me thrills-as it always does, and I loved seeing the rapport between Roger and Adam during that song. Still waiting to hear a repeat of the "KIEV WHY!!!} When the lights went down, following WWTLF, there was a slight pause ,I heard dum...dum... dum... Could it be? TSMGO !!!!!! I almost cried---it would be the first time I would hear Adam sing that song LIVE -and it was PERFECTION. The audience seemed stunned and awed. {unlike others,I hadn't seen the setlist beforehand,so I was thrilled beyond words when I heard those first notes.I can still feel that excitement as I write this ... The night was moving along-too quickly, as it always does-and there he was, tilting his crown during WATC,and I had to smile again because this is,to me, his sexiest move of all,{don't know why, it just IS !} Confetti pouring down ,lights go up but I'm not sad at all-because I would be back here again Sunday night with my 2 favorite girls.
The next day , we went strolling along the strip for several hours {no easy feat navigating huge crowds in every direction on my amazing scooter!} It was hot,but not unbearably so, and if you knew my daughter, you would know that adventure is her middle name and we were not going to stay at the Park Hotel all day! Besides, we had my 12 year old granddaughter with us ,whose main goal was to go to the famous M&M store on the strip to buy something for her brother! What a store! Eventually, we made our way back and off to the pool they went for a little while. We decided to go to a restaurant at The Park called BaVette {fine dining steak house} which was wonderful. My daughter and I had the best whiskey sour there that I've ever tasted, and our server, Alexandra, was lovely and accommodating . Our meal was delicious and I would go back there for the whiskey sour alone!!! It was in this restaurant that a photo of the 3 of us was taken----in all our pre concert glory and JOY. My daughter said she would try to post it on Adamtopia when she gets home from work, and I hope she can-since I'm not sure how to do it myself. Now it was time for THE EVENT, so off to the theater we went. Again we had great seats, same section, only a few rows back, but we could see Adam very clearly all throughout the concert. My sweet one was enchanted from the first moment, never stopped grinning from ear to ear, dancing and singing the whole time,]and unbeknownst to me,had checked out Queen's catalogue and memorized the lyrics of most of the biggest hits. She had even practiced the Gaga claps and was having the time of her life! Of course this made me so happy---and so thrilled to be a part of her "First Concert" experience. I asked her what her favorites were, and she said she loved Adam doing Killer Queen and also when he rode the bicycle. Remember, I DID mention she's 12 years old! Ha Ha..
During this second concert,I noticed a nice fluidity throughout, "first night jitters all gone", recognition that this residency was indeed catching on! Everywhere I went along the casinos and shops I heard folks remarking about the Queen and Adam concert and asking if there were any tickets left. Coming out of the concerts on both nights, you could hear people saying what an incredible singer Adam was. On the first night,a couple from Massachusetts asked me if I had seen Adam perform before. It was their first Queen concert and hubby was there rather reluctantly because his wife wanted to see Adam. When I said that I had seen Adam solo and with Queen several times,he asked me,"Why do you have to see him singing twice?" I asked him if he followed any sports team and he said he loved baseball. "Why do you have to keep going back to baseball games? " He was a little taken back,as he said "That's the best answer I've ever heard to my question. Following the concert, he turned to me and said,"You're right. That man is phenomenal. His wife had tears in her eyes and kept shaking her head.
As I close my saga, I just want to add that I know I'm so blessed to have had this journey to see this beautiful man we love so much. He makes my heart sing and brings JOY I can't begin to explain. I hope this Vegas residency allows more people from this country to get to know and appreciate his remarkable talent:he deserves all the accolades coming his way. And, on a personal note, it was such a wonderful chance for me to share this Adam Love with my two precious girls. We had moments of laughter, contemplation and JOY that I will treasure always.
