Adam Lambert and Queen perform “We Will Rock You” No matter what your feelings are on the controversial biopic Bohemian Rhapsody are, you’re kidding yourself if you weren’t stopping your feet right along with Lambert (he sure can hit those high notes) and the late Freddie Mercury’s bandmates. The iconic “We Will Rock You” kicked off the hostless 91st Academy Awards, and no one seemed too upset about it, especially not stars like Javier Bardem and Glenn Close who were rocking the hell out. #1 is Shallow.

twitter.com/billboard/status/1099959874262319106billboard @billboard The best & worst moments of the 2019 #Oscars blbrd.cm/cPqlka Queen mentioned first: BEST: Queen Rock the Intro Leading into this year's Oscars, a lot was made of the lack of a host and what that might mean for the opening of the show. No monologue? No movie montage starring the wacky comedian emcee? Well, as it turns out, that was a blessing in disguise. In lieu of a host-led intro package, the Academy recruited Queen -- the classic band whose story is told in the awards-season favorite Bohemian Rhapsody -- to unleash the one-two punch of "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions." Of course the group was missing Freddie Mercury, but fill-in frontman Adam Lambert and the band paid tribute to the iconic singer with a massive photo behind the band. "Welcome to the Oscars!" Lambert wailed following the jock-jam opening duo.

twitter.com/esquire/status/1099951145592664069Esquire @esquire The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Moments of the 2019 Oscars www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a26505034/oscars-2019-award-show-recap/ … What began with a bang—thanks to a performance from Queen Easiest Crowd Pleaser: How do you immediately sell an awards show with no host? You begin with Adam Lambert stretching his vocals, blasting Queen through the speakers and cutting to smiling celebrities stomping their feet. It was, at the very least, an effective way to force those in attendance out of their seats. “We Are the Champions” seemed a little disingenuous to start an awards show, but in retrospect, it would have been much more condescending had it played off the Green Book folks to close the night.
