I love Roger. He's a straight shooter. No nonsense will sneak past this guy.

Adam got a mention in the May issue of Vanity Fair! A Fox studio executive said he went to see QAL at the Hollywood Bowl and “ Adam Lambert filled in for Freddie Mercury.” He was there to see who made up the audience, and was struck by how multi-generational it was. He said he knew right then that they had to make sure the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” had a PG-13 rating so more people would be able to see it. I just love to be reading along and have his name pop up. 🙂 It always astonishes me how hard fought it still is to present topics like a documentary honoring Freddie's legacy or alternatively anything that is related to Adam's career, as mainstream. The go-to place still seems to be the R-rated section, in the minds of many.
Obviously, we know what happened, when Bohemian Rhapsody gets turned into a PG-13 film, and it now seems a bit out of place to read that for 'Rocketman', they did not go down that same road. Not a smart move, if you ask me, but that is their decision. I don't want to see R-rated stuff around Elton John any more than I would have wanted to see it about Freddie.
Whoever this Fox studio executive responsible for BR was, he clearly has understood something that some others have yet to learn. That the segregated bubbles dictated on us when it comes to the gay community, are definitely a thing of the past. Being homosexual has come out of its separate bubble and into mainstream.
In this context, I wanted to link a quick video from The Abbey, one of Adam's regular stomping grounds in West Hollywood. Yesterday, this bar was a stop on the Presidential tour of one of the candidates for the democratic nomination, Pete Buttigieg. That would not be so note-worthy, if Mayor Pete was running somewhere in the also-rans, around number 20 of the candidates, but he is not. He is in third place, has been now for about a month, the needle has not moved much since then, as the two top tier candidates seem to be locked in. But he is the next one up after that top two group. He was able to rise to the top of the remainder field, in spite of his young age, with zero name recognition, as a mid-west town mayor, and as openly gay man. The fact that he visits such a place like The Abbey and is seemingly not raising a ton of alarms anymore, is huge progress in that unknown world that we so often call mainstream.
So, here is this man, who coincidentally was born just 11 days before Adam in January of 1982, also in Indiana of all places, and he is in third place and being taken seriously by both the media and the public as 'presidential material'. Mainstream indeed.
A few threads ago, I commented about the BoRap movie and how Brian and Roger made sure that people of all ages could go see it. They didn't want it R-rated. It was a smart move. It sounds like the people working on the Elton John biopic are taking a different direction. Apparently they want to concentrate more on Elton's sexuality. I guess we'll see how that affects the box office. As for Buttigieg, I like him very much. He is an intellectual who also has first-hand military experience. He also has positive political experience at the state level. He impresses me with how he articulates his beliefs so well. He's a listener, not just a talker. I'd like to see a millennial President, as long as he or she handles people well, listens as well as talks, and can navigate our international affairs with strength along with diplomacy and tact. Seems like Mayor Pete can do that. His sexuality is a non-issue to me, although I know it will be an issue to many voters.

It seems the logic behind PG13 for BR was the current appeal of Queen music to all generations. So then the question is whether Elton’s music is popular or even known to the young people ...The young adults around me know the name but can’t name one song by Elton (they went for their phones lol)...the teens might not even know the name... it is interesting to see how the Rocket Man will do world wide...and Fletcher got his R movie after all! Pete Buttigieg’s run is fascinating to me! If nothing else he is moving the “acceptance” needle enormously and in that sense his presence in the race is a historic achievement. I was reading in one of the articles yesterday that in the past just a simple visit to the Abbey could sink a candidate...and now it is a fundraising complain spot! Progress for sure!

I had heard about him when he became a candidate but the first thing I heard was about his sexuality. Then when they really started to put out his background and experience and I heard him talk, it was a big wow. Very impressive. For the younger candidates, I was more on the Beto train. But I quickly jumped to Buttigieg and it had nothing to do with his sexuality. Tho, I'm happy we have come this far that he can even run. But I'm afraid it will be an issue for others. I hope Elton's movie does not treat his sexuality the way the Liberace movie treated his. I really did not like that movie. I had to force myself to watch it to the end. Everything seemed to be about him being in the bedroom. I learned more about his sex life and habits than I did the man. Still don't know how he became Liberace the star. I think what he overcame to get there and how would have been so much more interesting. At least it would have been to me cause I knew of him but not much about him. I had only seen some clips of him performing. TBH, I really have little interest in the sex life of any artist, gay or straight, lol.
