I went to a concert on Sunday of a well-known singer and musician, on tour to promote his latest album. It was great and the crowd was really into it. Later I realized that I had not given a thought to his position on the charts. I did not check beforehand to see if his recent records had been hits. Since he went indie years ago, I would guess there are no impressive stats; I strongly suspect he has never had a video on the VH1 countdown.
It did not matter. My job was to have fun and put it on my list to buy his new album when it comes out in a couple of weeks, not to worry about his business affairs. Judging from a picture I found on the web of his home and swimming pool, he is doing just fine.
This should in no way be taken as a criticism of anyone else -- just a statement of personal philosophy. I do what I can to help as a fan by buying Adam's music and going to his shows, and I enjoy following his fashions and his interviews and his life with Sauli. His music, performances, and cute face make me happy.
The possibility exists that Adam is destined to be a cult artist. If so, I will happily be in the cult. What do I care if the cult is not a large one?
