'Twas the night before the official announcement
'Twas the night before the official announcement, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even the computer mouse; The hopes were hung by the computer with care, In hopes that official announcement soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of american idol judge danced in their mommy's head; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long fall ratings nap, When out on the my cell phone there arose such a clatter, I sprang to the computer to see what was the matter.
Away to the computer I flew like a flash, Tore open the lid and turned on the power. The moon on the breast of the new computer screen Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a tweets from Shirley, AI and ADAM, and eight DMs,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be good news. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he tweeted, and we flailed , and called the judges by name;
"Now, Adam! Now, Mariah! Now, Keith and Nicki! On, Twitter! On Atop! On, AO and Emjays! To the top of the ! to the top of the stage! Now judge away! judge away! judge away all!" ........ \o/

Concerts not just radio gigs! in SAfrica. WOW! I feel like Spain..what's wrong with Western Canada!!! (actually I am okay until his "real tour"...then he better not foget about us for his second tour.) Did a little poking around. Good interview by the sponsors. Looks like a a great venue. I have not checked out the other venue...but tickets are slightly less at the other venue. www.coca-coladome.co.za/venue-infoI wonder how they will configure the 19,000 max it can hold for a concert? Alright SA Atopers, this is big venue for Adam...but any clue as to the fan base Adam can support in SA? The floor space is huge so chairs or standing??? Tickets 40 - 58 dollar range/ 2 hr 30 min show. Guessing there is an opening act(s), 20 min interval (yah right!) .... then his set is about 90 minutes. Adam needs to put together a show. YES! Crossing fingers for a debut of any song we haven't been hearing... edit:THAT CONTEST VIDEO IS PURE JOY AND AWESOME. Love the sparklers, the mini vjjays, the costumes, his face close up, the location shoot, the police siren at the end. Well done. I totally agree. He needs to come to Western Canada. Calgary or Edmonton would receive him well. Even Vancouver would work. One day I suppose. In the meantime I will fly to Arizona to get my first live glimpse of him. Scored some decent seats in C section. So they will suffice. What I am really hoping is that he'll try out some new songs at the Arizona concert before getting to SA. :

About knowing and understanding musical theory: I compare it with speaking a language and knowing how to write and read that language. You can speak it, but maybe you can't read it or write it. Then, when you learn, you suddenly understand why you delivered this or that sound, or why you used this or that verb. I don't know if I'm explaining myself or not... lol But, but, but..... Adam speaks his language beautifully, better than anyone else I can think of. Listening to this, while I am writing this And believe me, it cannot be done better, no theory of music could improve on the brilliance of simply letting 'his language' flow. Adam speaks the language of love and the language of song and they both melt and give us this. If somebody like myself wants to do anything in music, I have to study rhythms and chord structures and all this, and then practice, practice, practice...to just get to a basic level. Adam needs none of this and yet is ahead of all those that have done the studying, because he has his technical skill and versatility and then just lets it rip, let's his body and soul do the talking. Btw, it is just like with language, the comparison you make fits in the reverse way: As long as you still need to think about grammar structures and word order and conjugations, then your language will be hampered and 'Broken English' at best, both in written and spoken word alike. It is when you are fluent enough that you can let go of thinking about the grammar rules that you can express yourself freely and fluently. And there are many poets and writers in this world, who can write beautiful poetry or prose, but could never tell you the difference between a Genitive and Dative. Adam is a master at doing things instinctively right, in fact it is when he starts over-thinking things that he can go off kilter at times. He needed to stop studying his craft to find himself. He always said that. And otherwise, I totally agree with everything Q3 wrote earlier. Adam probably knows quite a bit more than he lets on, it is just that he does not stress these points and does not want to discuss or analyze his craft from this theoretical angle. I often think, would it not help him in song-writing to be able to put his hands onto a piano or guitar, just to ground himself, but he does not seem to need it or desire it. Because, I am sure he could pick it up very quickly and get it to the very basic level of supporting him in the song-writing process. It does not seem to be important to him. And in his kind of performance art, any instrument would be in his way and distract from his singing. Remember when Roger tried to put a tambourine into Adam's hands during one of the concerts. Adam literally did not know what to do with his extended arm. It was almost funny to watch. Yet he can put on a red jacket, and make it perform like an additional instrument. Different people - different talents. WOW! I love this post. So many great ideas (truths). The sound of the music (I hear Julie Andrews warming up ) is the most important thing, not reading music and the theory. My private violin students learn by a method (Suzuki) that is modeled after the way people learn their native language: listening, mimicking, gaining speaking fluency, and then learning to read (theory). (We start at age 3 or 4.) Adam can probably come up with a melody or riff way better by singing than with an instrument. His melodic instincts are great. Using another instrument would probably only hinder him with the technicalities of that instrument.

My daughter did violin, viola and piano Suzuki method and it inspired me so much that I trained and taught Suzuki piano to little ones. I completely agree that it is all about an intuitive flow and ease when you transcend the rules and let go. Adam so naturally lives in this space of total freedom. What a joy to be able to watch and listen to someone who is so incredibly gifted technically and so fearless about trusting his own muse.

Well, who would a thunk there was another Suzuki teacher on Atop? I love the freedom with which a lot of my students perform. I'm jealous.

I'm sure it was years ago that I saw a segment on 20/20 about the Suzuki method. What a perfect solution for some. It makes so much sense. I admire that you've made it a part of your program.
