I find it interesting that Adam's comments about AI this year have focused on vocals and praise of those with more talent in that area. I don't remember what if anything he tweeted about Season 9, but when he mentored, he praised everyone's singing, but called out those who failed to focus on performance and emotion and energy onstage. What is interesting is this new focus in light of what he has said about his own creative process for album #2-- more about the voice. Sounds like he's staying true to his theme. Interesting. The thing is, Adam can sit on a stool singing his beautiful vocal and the audience can feel the emotion he uses to sing the song and feel the energy of the connection he makes with them. Emotional connection is just as important to a good ballad as is the vocal. Example- Bob Dylan. Adam has the gift of having a perfect vocal and the emotion to convey it powerfully. And it is not just about moving around on the stage. When Adam sings live, whatever he sings, and however he sings it, on a stool, with choreography or just standing at the mike, reaches into my very center and makes me feel. Pia did not do that. Adam did and does and will continue to do so. That is what makes him genius. Both things. His vocal and the connection he makes with the audience, sometimes made with fun/sexy movement and sometimes made with still emotional sweetness/power. Both are different sides of his exceptional charisma and maybe his willingness to put it all out there and be vulnerable. Yes, i think both the performance and vocal forms of expression are important to adam, therefore he will comment on both or either depending on what is appropriate for the situation. Even if he focuses more on the voice for album #2, I feel he will always bring it with his performances... it's just who he is. And a stripped, vocally pure, emotional Adam is just another way to connect. It's never either/or with Adam.

To tell you the truth, how many albums could Pia really sell? If she had the fan club on AI, she'ld still be on the show.

[evil grin] But the newbies don't know what's *IN* the lolly bucket....yet. You might just have made them a tiny bit suspicious , though. LOL

I think Carrie is still a shy person, but she has worked hard, and succeeded, IMO, in overcoming that shyness for her appearances and performances. That shy personality still shows through at times and I guess that's why I find her so likeable. I admire her. I have read that Beyonce is shy as well and she has said that she still has to work on overcoming that shyness for her onstage performances. Who woulda thunk it - right? 8-) beyonce shy? never woulda thought. uh, she wears dresses slit up to the cooch. Yes she does, but that's her performance persona.

I don't know. You can't teach charisma. You can help people get better with their moves, but you can't teach them the inner whatever it is that ultimately makes those moves seem organic and believable. Pia just makes me realize how lucky we are to have Adam. It is really so rare to have amazing vocal talent and performance charisma and great looks and great personality all at the same time. Add to that the bravery to be himself personally and creatively and you have the makings of a real star. Adam is it; he is the real thing. Sometimes when I see Youtubes of Adam singing brilliantly in his early twenties, I feel sad for the years we have missed, but then I realize he needed those years to form and shape and prepare himself to be ready to handle and deliver everything he does now. He has entered the fame scene more fully developed as a talent and as a human being, and all of that adds to his attractiveness and to his music in really great ways. Things happen at the right time, and I am glad I get to enjoy him now. Even better, I know this will bring him longevity in the music industry, and that is, after all, what he says he wants, that, and to find love. So I am feeling pretty happy for him these days, because that is my wish for him as well. And I gotta say, I love when the universe rewards deserving people! Look how successful Carrie became. I remember her being a bit shy on that stage. She certainly learned a thing or two since Idol. That is interesting. Funny thing, Carrie is very successful, but even during her season I thought she had likeability as the cute country girl personality, although I was quite a casual watcher at that time. That is partly why people voted for her. She was the cute little country girl and she had a great voice. After idol, her style became more sexy as opposed to fresh and cute. Who knows? Maybe Pia will find some stage presence as she develops, but for me, this season, that is what she was missing and that is partly why she didnt get the votes she needed to continue on the show. In any case, she has a record deal now, so she will have a chance that many others will never get, so good for her!
