All of this WOW OMG OMG ADAM SANG 30 SECONDS OF STAY AND WE'RE ALL DEAD AND DYING from pop news outlets is absolutely mind-boggling to me. I mean, we're all Adam stans and we get it. The second he opens his mouth we regularly plan our own funerals. But the way this Stay thing has taken off in the news cycle is crazy. That's all. It's pretty overwhelming!!!! There was this same sort of outpouring of praise for Is This Love...so....perhaps part of the message is the type of song that media peeps want to see from Adam. He keeps releasing the more uptempo and produced tracks yet it is the slower-range cuts that show off his vocals and subtleties. Perhaps as McLuhan said...paraphrased somewhat to suit music....the media/genre really is the message....perhaps it really is time for a ballad...he has yet to release one of those. Yet he is most known amongst casual fans for Mad World and WWFM....which are both soulful and smooth. I know...what about BTIKM but that really doesn't have that same 'from the heart' quality that the other two have..and he completely removed the 'personal' angst of the song with the video so between the ridiculous release issues and the attempts to 'universalize' it...it lost its major personality and appeal....imho Just thinking with my fingers here.... eta....note there is a 'he' in this snippet but because the pronoun is in reference to love and emotion and abandonment rather than lust/sex [as in Fever] it passes without thought, notice or comment. What do others think?

This is the kind of music I have been hoping Adam would do for years -- stripped down, R&B, no complexity in the production or the instrumentation. Just Adam. Also, JMHO and I would love to hear what Cassie thinks, but compared to his pre-Idol Upright Cafe performance he seems so much more skilled/powerful as a vocalist.

What do others think? Great posts ! The reasons Adam's live performances receive ovewhelming praise ... There's so much production on the CD's , when it's his voice in the forefront, that's all that's needed.

Just love the snippet! Can't wait to hear what Cassie has to say about it. What's to say? That is Adam at his finest, IMO. Just that beautiful voice, that ringing, pure tone, than emotional delivery with the very minimum of accompaniments. I had never heard the song before, so watched a bit of RiRi singing it last night. She is very good, but......... Adam takes it to another level all together. Adam doesn't need a huge band, multiple backing tracks, singers, dancers, lasers, and costumes. All he needs is a piano or guitar providing a base for his singing. Wouldn't you love an album like that? Think of all the wonderful work from the Upright Cabaret as examples. Thank you, Cassie. I would love an album like this.

Just love the snippet! Can't wait to hear what Cassie has to say about it. Willowgarden...look at the way Adam's eyes are looking out at us in your avi! Love it!! I love Adam in black and white pictures. Sort of Mona Lisa-ish with that particular look and smile.

Also, JMHO and I would love to hear what Cassie thinks, but compared to his pre-Idol Upright Cafe performance he seems so much more skilled/powerful as a vocalist. I agree that Adam has grown and matured as a singer since those earlier days. He was always able to connect with the emotions of a song, always able to do great interpretations. But, his voice has become richer, fuller and rounder. Earlier it had a bit more of a bite or sharpness to it, IMO. Now it is smooth milk chocolate with layers of flavor to it. When Adam sings with a band and backing track, the instrumentals often mask or cover up some of those wonderful harmonics in his voice, so that you don't get the full effect of his tone. A single piano or guitar just provides basic rhythms and harmony, but lets Adam's voice soar on its own. I hope that when Adam makes album #3 he considers minimizing all the production. He said before TP came out, when he started working on it, that he was going to make sure his voice was front and center, because that was what his fans wanted. Somewhere along the way, I think he lost sight of that a bit. (IMO, don't shoot me for it). Crossing my fingers that third time is the charm. Those of you who want Adam to do a hard rock screaming guitar album can express your opinions as well. Who knows what the boy wil end up doing.

Guess I'm in the minority again - what else is new. I love.love.love WWFM which has lots of background singing, lots of production, lots of emotions and it hit me right between the eyes every time I hear it on the radio. Evidently I'm not totally alone in my WWFM love tho - Grammy loved it too. Well, not enough to make it a winner, but what the hay - it's still being played, isn't it. I DON'T want to hear Adam be another Andy Williams or Perry Como type if that's what some here mean by stripped down and plain and only a piano. I wouldn't like an entire album like that at all. That sounds so boring and "easy listening" like an oldies station.

I will be happy to have new music -- unless he goes country on us and it is not Adamized. ETA: No I am not rooting for Adam to go retro and do Perry Como music or front a big band. And IMO WWFM had pretty clean production and Adam's vocals are upfront. What I can pass on is the Dr. Luke production of Adam and on the Howard Bensen's overdone wall of sound rock production on the FYE album version of Aftermath. And IMO Soaked would have been better without the Rob Cavallo's swirling strings in the background.

Cassie I'll take your "smooth milk chocolate with layers of flavor to it" and some "hard rock screaming guitar" too!! How about Adam giving us both on his next album with as little 'production' as possible and the VOICE front and center!!
