I'm thinking my ears are on backward, because some of the singers I thought were pretty bad got sent through while some I liked were told No. However, the judges and I did agree on a few. I wrote down the names of the ones who impressed me the most so I can see if they continue to do well.
For me (for you), the kid that Harry picked up had the best voice of the night. His name is Munfarid Zaidi and I'll be surprised if he wins because he doesn't have "the look," but I thought he had showed impressive vocal control. So many of them just come out and sing loudly, or do runs in a way that makes me think they're trying to disguise the fact that they can't hold a steady note.
Harry is going to be my hero on that score, I think, because he isn't automatically impressed by attempts at vocal acrobatics. JLo, on the other hand, is going to drive me just as crazy as she did when she was a judge before. She's already used the word "goosies." Oh, please, just go away.

They are sending through a lot of people I wouldn't have.

Yes, but he sings with quite an 'operatic' kind of voice, and we know how the market reacts to any of that, don't we. And let's face it, he made an entry for himself that is going to stick with him for the rest of his life. Means he will never be taken seriously in pop music circles, even though he can sing. Don't think he will get lots of votes, tbh. Not like those cute guys who fit the WGWG image, who will be able to take all the votes, old and young alike. So far, none of the girls impressed me, I have to say. I love the judging panel, so that helps.
Still watched only the rewinds on youtube and not the actual show. Just cannot get myself to take 2 hours for this and I miss AFL. So, if everybody does this quickviewing on the internet, like I did, the ratings will still stay low. We shall see.
And I hope Adam will perform. Have Adam and HCJr met? I don't think they have. And by the time Adam gets a slot, HCJr will be a star. Hope he is ready for fame, because his days of walking down the street without causing a ruckus are going to be counted, as in 3,2,1, gone.

I'm pretty sure that Harry is already a star, but maybe not to the younger crowd.

I have not watched tonight's show yet but I have it taped so will watch it tomorrow. I did read Michael Slezak's recap though and he is very positive about HC. I always appreciate Michael's recaps and usually agree with him. If you are not familar with Michael, he's at TVLine now and he does all the Idol recaps.
I have mixed feelings about the show just because it will NEVER be the same for me after AFL. JLo isn't my favorite, Keith seems fine, and I like what I hear about HC, so I may enjoy this year just a little... we'll see.

I really enjoyed tonight too!! There was great chemistry between the judges, they laughed a lot, and I laughed a lot. There were 3 guys and 1 or 2 gals that I though had really good voices, and 1 gal that wrote and sang a really emotional song about her granddad.

I recorded it but still can't decide if I should watch. I have always cringed through the audition episodes when I did watch them even from the beginning. I usually start watching somewhere around either Hollywood week or the semi finals. I may wait till auditions are over.

There's something weird about the camera angle on the contestants this year. I'm very much aware of being able to see inside their mouths and practically down their throats. It's very distracting.

I have to say that I really didn't see anyone that thrilled me. No "Mama" adrenalin rush!! I was not really thrilled with all the guitars, either!!

Well, this is interesting! Google, Facebook bring new interactive features to 'American Idol'
The producers of Fox's "American Idol" are looking to give the long-running televised singing competition a fresh hook and attract viewers with new interactive features offered through partnerships with Google and Facebook.
In a first for Google, people who use its search engine to learn more about the show, its contestants or judges will be able to cast votes directly from within Google's search results.
Facebook users, meanwhile, might see their profile pictures displayed during the telecast when they cast a ballot.
"Now more than ever, we've got these incredible technology platforms that can be used in real time to not only reflect what's happening on the show, but to create a two-way dialog between the viewers and the show itself," said Bill Bradford, senior vice president of digital for Fox Broadcasting.
The singing competition, now in its 13th season, has launched the musical careers of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks. It still attracts millions of viewers, though ratings have declined from its heyday.
Google proposed a new voting wrinkle for the show that has been in the vanguard of at-home audience participation. Viewers will be able to cast ballots for favorite performers whenever they use their computers, smartphones or tablets to search for more information about the show.
A voting module will begin appearing in the Google search results, starting with the finalist performances on Feb. 26.
"It's the first time we have voting go to the user," Luner said, noting that viewers can already support their favorite performers through toll-free balloting by phone, texting and online voting.
When it comes to online voting, Facebook already works with Fox and Fremantle to verify that the ballots cast online and through the "American Idol" mobile application are viewers, not an automated software program.
