The blog is the same articles that are on page 1 here. Same as we did on Planet Fierce for Members who were there. So it is the same -- not new.

Adam is remarkable in so many ways (obviously, or we wouldn't all be glued to Adamtopia for hours every day), but NoAngel's post today got me thinking about his approach to life; his relentless positive attitude, and his courage to own his own life choices rather than play the victim. What an example when our society loves to play the victim card, and many people avoid accepting responsibility for their actions. Jacob's statement was a perfect example. I encounter that same attitude from many students. If they earn a bad grade on a project (note the word EARN, not "if I GIVE them a bad grade), they make excuses that I was not clear in my instructions and expectations, they were improperly taught or coached previously, their computer was not working properly, and they had other demands on their time and attention and I was not understanding that they had a life beyond school. The excuse that pisses me off the most is probably, "My friends all say I sign very well, and they understand me just fine. Then, you pick it apart. It's not fair. You are not grading me fairly." They defend their poor work by blaming others, blaming circumstances, or blaming me --- the person they signed up for because they wanted to improve their performance and become a professional. The person with 30 years of experience and a national reputation. Contrast that with Adam, who would never let on if he was under the weather, under pressure, preoccupied with other stresses, bored, insulted, or tired and just craved some time off. Adam, who is the first to admit when his performances are not up to his own exacting standards --- did ANYONE besides him think that his BorW performance was not very good? We all love Adam's relentless positive attitude. Sometimes we are guilty of thinking, "He is BLESSED with a positive attitude." Or, "He is blessed with a supportive family." Or, "He is so lucky to be in his position, and see all his dreams come true." Or, "He is blessed with a natural talent." In reality, Adam has always had battles to fight, as we all do. He has always worked tirelessly for the opportunities he has made for himself. He meets just as many asshats every day as all the rest of us. He gets sick, he gets tired, he beats his head against walls, he gets his heart broken, he gets disrespected and maligned unfairly, just like everyone else. He CHOOSES to maintain a positive attitude of gratitude. He CHOOSES to find the positive in people and circumstances. He CHOOSES to speak words of encouragement and appreciation. He CHOOSES to be non-judgmental of other performers and to find joy in their work. He CHOOSES to be collaborative instead of egocentric. He CHOOSES to look forward with excitement, not backwards with regret. He CHOOSES to learn from experience and incorporate it into his art. We sell him short if we don't recognize that Adam is who he is due to his will and his choices, not due to his circumstances and luck. I know. I know. I am preaching to the choir, but, hey, it is Sunday. I am choosing to think about why Adam is such an unusual and remarkable human being. ILHSFM. Cassie, I love your way of expressing things and agree with you 100 %. The positive outlook Adam has towards his life/universe IS by choice, and that what makes it so great. We cannot change others, only ourselves, so I choose to be positive in my life. Life is great when you have so many like-minded and intelligent friends all over the world. Ditto, it takes work to be positive despite the crap and hate life send his way

The blog is the same articles that are on page 1 here. Same as we did on Planet Fierce for Members who were there. So it is the same -- not new. The blog is a great idea. The articles posted on page one are very well done and deserve a larger audience. The blog will give them a better chance to reach that audience. It will also make it much easier to read them again. It's wonderful to also have the forum to play in! Thank you!

I will not move anything form here without permission. I have no plan to move comments from here, Old ATop or PF to the blog. I have the ability to edit and had it on blogspot 5 years ago so that sounds like BS. I reserve the right to remove anything from either this forum or the blog -- unilaterally. If anyone has any specific questions about ATop policies, please PM me here. Thanks. thx. The editing that was not allowed was editing of someone's comments, not posts to the blog. this was in '06. I figured out the answer to one of my questions - You still can post anonymously without signing in. Just use the drop down box "Comment as" and drop down to "open ID". It then allows you to type "anonymous" or any name you wish. (didn't test it though) I have never posted anonymously but the fellow whose blog I visited used to have a hard time with that feature. I have allowed people to post comments with an Adamtopia Blog ID, Google ID or an OpenID. But I have disabled anonymous posts. If it is a problem, I will adjust. I have no idea about the old blog you are referring to, but I have the capability to modify comments or delete all or part of comments. And similar capability was available in 2006 -- it was part of the original Pyra Labs blog functionality in 1999. Perhaps he did not want to delete parts of comments because it takes some effort and stretched the truth. It is not my first blog, and will certainly not be my biggest blog or most difficult blog to mod, so I'm pretty sure I can handle the comments on a relatively uncontroversial entertainment topic.

I too think that the American myth of the individual and self-determination is a double-edged sword, especially in the last several years it has in some respects blinded people to increasing gaps in wealth, education, opportunity and made them look to themselves for personal failings, as opposed to trying to change huge systematic problems. How many of us in the US have been impacted by the recession and housing collapse? How many have had their real income stagnate for years now? 400 people in the US own half of the countries wealth, and the top 10% own 90% of the countries wealth. How much of the pie is left for the low-income but hard-working and positive individual to get a piece of? Horatio Alger would be scratching his head right now... midwivespal - I'd love to read that article too, if you pm me. Bringing this back to Adam, yes, for you, me, our family members Jacob, and Adam himself, moving past injustices and remaining optimistic, taking personal responsibility in spite of the circumstances, in general keeping our positive #forcefieldup often allows us to overcome, to bring forth an extraordinary performance and triumph. It's a useful survival and success strategy. But even when it looks like incremental change is happening organically in this country, there is always a group of people behind the scenes pushing, agitating, demanding, organizing and actually fighting for each tiny legislative and cultural victory. We've watched Adam push at boundaries and get slapped back, then push again, and again, and again until eventually they start to crumble a bit, so that one day the guy on guy kiss on TV will eventually become unremarkable if still rare. Just a fact check -- 400 people in the US do not have 50% of wealth, and the Top 10% do not own 90%. The wealth distribution in the US is regularly reported and analyzed by many people -- Federal Reserve, Academics, Economists, and Poverty Reduction Advocates. The correct stats are not great -- but not that outrageous: 1% (3,330,000 people) had 43% of wealth in 2007 --- dropped to around 37% in 2010. Correct numbers from 2007 -- new numbers due out shortly: theunderstatement.com/post/3999331289/us-wealth-distribution-visualized"...this distribution from 2007 is actually not that different from what it was in 1983. The distribution between the top 1%, the next 19%, and the bottom 80% in 1983 was 43% - 48% - 9%, and in 2007 it was 43% - 50% - 7%. Looked at a bit differently though, the wealth of the bottom 80% has been fairly volatile. It dropped from 8.7% in 1983 to a low of 6.6% in 1989 - a 24% decline in 6 years. Then it shot up to 9.5% in 1995 - a 44% gain in 6 years, before heading back down to 7.0% in 2007. Since this is all expressed as share of the country’s total wealth, it’ll take further review of the data to determine to what extent this volatility was the bottom 80%’s wealth changing versus the wealth of the top 20% changing." Interesting. I don't have time to respond to this now cause I gotta pick the hubby up from the airport (LOL--there's a reason I've been so chatty today : ), and I don't know the statistics off-hand. But I'm sure I've read articles about the growing wealth gap from really well informed economists (Paul Krugman comes to mind), and there are different ways of measuring that. Either way, if a leap from 6.6% of the wealth belong to 80% of the people to 9.5% belonging to 80% of the people constitutes the numbers "shooting up" we know we're looking at a pretty outrageous wealth situation. And I'm pretty sure the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer in absolute terms (recession aside). Also, top marginal tax rates are now MUCH MUCH lower than they were in the past, even if we undid Bush's tax break for the top 2%, and even when compared to the supposedly ultra-conservative, small govt. Reagan years. So that says a lot about wealth distribution in this country. ALL way OT, I apologize, but I gotta run. HUGs.
