Looked at a bit differently though, the wealth of the bottom 80% has been fairly volatile. It dropped from 8.7% in 1983 to a low of 6.6% in 1989 - a 24% decline in 6 years. Then it shot up to 9.5% in 1995 - a 44% gain in 6 years, before heading back down to 7.0% in 2007. Since this is all expressed as share of the country’s total wealth, it’ll take further review of the data to determine to what extent this volatility was the bottom 80%’s wealth changing versus the wealth of the top 20% changing." Q3 - I think getting into this would lead to an off-topic rabbit hole, and you are probably right that my original stats were a little extreme, as I'm having trouble googling where I first read them. Regardless the gap is large, and graphs show that it's clearly the bottom not growing or decreasing slightly since the 70's, while the top skyrockets. Mother Jones did a lot of research and has some scarily enlightening and clear infographs w/ citations for those who are interested. motherjones.com/politics/2011/02/income-inequality-in-america-chart-graphSee the "winners take all" section in particular. On a tangent, I've sometimes wondered if there is a connection between economic hardship for the majority and the rise of music pirating vs. buying, or if it would have happened regardless of the economic climate simply due to the ease of access with digital music.

Danilo, right click f**king save. Thanks. I must have abandonment issues because I love pictures of Adam from the rear. Here's one I have kept and I don't keep that many. Ok, maybe more than just a few.

Yes, it would take us down a rabbit hole!! I agree it is really not good. Now back to Adam! ETA: For a bit of fun math -- total private wealth of US is $53 Trillion. If that was all in the hands of 400 people -- they would have an average worth of $132 billion. Bill Gates the richest American and #2 in the world is worth $56B. Carlos Slim and Family is worth $74B. But I am willing to be that "poor".

I haven't been on for the past few days. I am confused about the new blog. What is the difference between that and this site? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ The blog is just for the best articles from ATop and some selections from Planet Fierce that are no longer available online. Thankfully, many were saved by members. I am still trying to locate a couple I wrote...... Black Swan (I only saved the images and banner) April Fools Day 2010 (I have the images but not the text) Also we are still missing a couple Halfie gems. So if anyone has these, please PM me. THX.

thx. The editing that was not allowed was editing of someone's comments, not posts to the blog. this was in '06. I figured out the answer to one of my questions - You still can post anonymously without signing in. Just use the drop down box "Comment as" and drop down to "open ID". It then allows you to type "anonymous" or any name you wish. (didn't test it though) I have never posted anonymously but the fellow whose blog I visited used to have a hard time with that feature. I have allowed people to post comments with an Adamtopia Blog ID, Google ID or an OpenID. But I have disabled anonymous posts. If it is a problem, I will adjust. I have no idea about the old blog you are referring to, but I have the capability to modify comments or delete all or part of comments. And similar capability was available in 2006 -- it was part of the original Pyra Labs blog functionality in 1999. Perhaps he did not want to delete parts of comments because it takes some effort and stretched the truth. It is not my first blog, and will certainly not be my biggest blog or most difficult blog to mod, so I'm pretty sure I can handle the comments on a relatively uncontroversial entertainment topic. If we post with our google account, does it give our email address?

Mine is set to Q3 and when I post that is what is displayed.

I'm taking a chance, here, cuz I am only on page 10 of 15 and we may have dropped this discussion but.... oh, well.
MWP, thank you for a thought provoking post. While I did not "read" Jacob's comment as you did, your interpretation sounds correct. I didn't consider the previously ousted contestants with regard to ethnicity, and, until you pointed it out, didn't see the pattern (or coincidence). I never considered that those contestants were voted off for that reason ---- they just weren't very good or very remarkable, to my mind. Well, I take that back. I liked the creativity of Naima (or whatever her name was), but have to admit she didn't have great vocals.
If you are correct about the reasoning behind Jacob's comment, it is regrettable that he was not a bit clearer in his message --- because I missed it, and I assume that others did, too. I thought it was just him saying that he was so good he didn't deserve to be in the bottom three, and we should examine our intelligence and musical taste if we put him there. ( Yeah, sometimes I am that naive.)
