Whew ...been gone for a few days... lots to catch up on ... I just wanted to mention how jealous I am of all the viewing parties going on in various parts of the country. There is an article in the new Oprah magazine about online friendships (although in that case it was a cooking blog that started it) and how real friendship developed from it. I was thinking they should have researched Adamtopia to see what what happens when online friendships mix with real life! Since I've never managed to get anywhere that other posters gather, I have a question about your parties: do you all call each other by your real names or by your Atop names? I really love it when people refer to their husbands as Mr. Whatever their online name is (as in Mr. Mangokat! For some reason, I just found it hilarious that you were all sitting around watching GlamNation Live with Mr. Mangokat) I think the blog is great idea. I'm always amazed at some of NoAngel's and Q3's essays. The writing here is way better than some of those Examiner articles. Maybe when Q3's private concert happens, I'll be able to attend and hang with you all. By the way, Q3, by any chance were you heavily influenced by early Hayley Mills movies? Because this ... "So I have cooked up a little plot. My special dream. Adam, I hope you are reading this today. It is a scathingly brilliant idea. Here goes….." is right out of The Trouble With Angels! I expected that when we met face to face we would all refer to each other by our birth names. Sometimes we do, but most often we revert back to the Adamptopia call names. I have gotten quite fond of "Cassie" as a matter of fact. There is a special kind of kinship when calling one another by our ATop names which feels kinda warm and fuzzy. And freeing from our daily identity.

I agree. He didn't just say there was racism in the voting; he said that racism in the voting was the only reason anyone would fail to vote for him. I'm not voting for anyone this year, but if I were, it wouldn't be for Jacob because I don't like his singing. Suck it up, Lusk. Oh, I dunno, murly. He didn't say "anyone." He probably just meant some people, and some people is enough. I certainly never meant to imply that anyone not voting for Jacob is not voting for Jacob because they are, either consciously or unconsciously, racists. That would be ridiculous, and I haven't seen his performances except for a snippet or two, but I'm sure there's a lot not to like about them. I agree he could have phrased it better, but nevertheless, it need not be true that everyone voting against him was racially motivated, as long as some people voting against him (and all the other minorities already kicked off) were, even subconsciously, racially motivated. To relate this to Adam: I'm sure many many of the people who voted for Kris in the finale weren't homophobes. I'm sure many many people liked Kris' singing better, weren't really into Adam's over-the-topness, weren't into wonderfully wailing rock, or simply really loved what Kris brought to the show. However, some people clearly voted against Adam because he was gay, and I think its very likely that enough people voted for that reason to tip the scales in favor of Kris. That is: Adam lost to Kris because of homophobic, bigoted voters, even if many non-prejudiced people simply happened to prefer Kris anyway, and voted totally honorably. Just a thought: Where will Jacob fit in the scheme of things if he ever gets a record contract? Will it be another Lee or Taylor H debaucle? I never would have thought in those terms before, but I do now. I don't vote anyway, not since Adam, but it's hard to think about who does and does not have any chance of success in the real world of radio play.

ETA: Linda, I PM'd you with a link to an Austin-American Statesman op-ed that has me all up in arms about this subject, LOL. I too think that the American myth of the individual and self-determination is a double-edged sword, especially in the last several years it has in some respects blinded people to increasing gaps in wealth, education, opportunity and made them look to themselves for personal failings, or blame others in the same economic boat as opposed to trying to change huge systematic problems. How many of us in the US have been impacted by the recession and housing collapse? How many have had their real income stagnate for years now? 400 people in the US own half of the countries wealth, and the top 10% own 90% of the countries wealth. How much of the pie is left for the low-income but hard-working and positive individual to get a piece of? Horatio Alger would be scratching his head right now... midwivespal - I'd love to read that article too, if you pm me. Bringing this back to Adam, yes, for you, me, our family members, Jacob, and Adam himself, moving past injustices and remaining optimistic, taking personal responsibility in spite of the circumstances, in general keeping our positive #forcefieldup often allows us to overcome, to bring forth an extraordinary performance and triumph. It's a useful survival and success strategy. But even when it looks like incremental change is happening organically in this country, there is always a group of people behind the scenes pushing, agitating, demanding, organizing and actually fighting for each tiny legislative and cultural victory. We've watched Adam push at boundaries and get slapped back, then push again, and again, and again until eventually they start to crumble a bit, so that one day the guy on guy kiss on TV will eventually become unremarkable if still rare. --- ETA: here's the fact check on the 400 people have more wealth than half of all American's combined. Originally stated by Micheal Moore (yes, I know...) but fact checked after much discussion by economists contacted by Politifact as "true" - www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2011/mar/10/michael-moore/michael-moore-says-400-americans-have-more-wealth-/Capitalism is tough, but you either embrace it or you don't. I don't know the answer, but ........... whoops, my ATLAS SHRUGGED is showing. By the way, I'm way, way down the totem pole since the the real estate crash at the end of 2007, but that's life in a non-socialistic economy.

Should he get a contract I have thought about that... I see him more going the route of Fantasia actually.. and while I don't really care for Fantasia.. I actually think she is much much better..she has way more control ... even if she has unfortunate style habits.. she is just way better.. so whatever Jacob meant by his zinger the other night, I just don't see him as main stream. Kayne, Usher, J-Z, R Kelly and the rest would probably eat him up.

I haven't had much time here today to post but I am reading - every single post. On the Jacob issue (which I guess is becoming OT now) - I'm usually pretty sensitive to racial or gay intolerance but I misinterpreted Jacob's pronouncement along with many of you. I had heard there was a lot of hate directed at him on some Idol forums but I didn't know about twitter. I can now fully understand why he said what he did. Unfortunately the general viewing audience won't have a clue.
To take this back to Adam - in my wildest dreams I can't imagine him ever saying anything like that no matter how much ugliness was thrown his way. And there was mucho ugliness thrown at him and there still is. He's learned to handle it with grace. That's the way he seems to handle everything. I think Adam could be a big help to Jacob. They should have a talk.
