Adam is a marvelous interpreter of a song. He delivers a line or a phrase differently, depending on the meaning and intent of the lyric, depending on the melodic movement, and depending on where in the song it is. He tells stories with his performances. I suppose it is all his musical theater training? What is even more impressive, in some cases he delivers a whole story with just one word. Or even one sound! Listen to Underground, where "frozen" seems to be the equivalent to "nervous" in MW. But he is not just frozen (not moving in time), but frozen AND shivering, by just adding vibrato to the "NnNnN" in the end. Never thought one could do that on a consonant, but I am not an expert. Since you are, what's your take? www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IJlzrswbI4&feature=youtu.be&t=17I hadn't noticed that in particular, tho' I had noticed the more rapid vibrato on the line. Your theory of shivering is a good possible reason for it. Can one add vibrato to a sung consonant? Actually, the question is, can one SING a consonant, as in producing a sustained pitch or tone. Yes, for the three nasal consonants, N, M and NG. To produce a note/tone, your vocal cords need to vibrate. To vibrate, they need to have air passing thru them. You can do that for N, M and NG. After all, humming is just vocalizing to an MMMM sound. (Any speech therapists online, yes I know that voiced fricatives Z, ZH, V and TH can also produce a note or tone, but because the oral cavity is constricted, the tone is not full sounding. I have never heard a singer sustain a ZZZZ, for example)

While Nate and Adam are both pop stars with albums releasing on the same day, I cannot see them in direct competition because their voices are so different. Someone who loves Adam's pure, rich, milk chocolate, controlled tones is not likely to love Nate's more astringent, piercing, raw, pushed vocal sound. And vice versa. How you like your pop singers to sound is personal preference.
I can see SOME support for saying Nate would work better with Queen. If what you like about Freddie's voice is the rawness, the push, the sharp tone, and the enthusiasm he has tackling the notes, Nate's sounds similar. Adam's is probably too smooth, too easy flowing, too predictably perfect, too formal sounding to feel risky or like he is working hard to belt out the notes.
As a classically trained singer, listening to Nate's voice, and sometimes Freddie's voice live, is sometimes almost painful to my throat. Someone else would find criticism in Adam's sound. To each their own, but, not likely to have oodles of fans who are enamoured with both and trying to decide which album to buy with their limited funds.

I think Shellback did the instrumental arrangement/production on this one based on the the style. I love how this song transitioned from his mostly unmodifed voice on verse 1 to increasing levels of processing as the song progresses. Then retreats and cycles again. IMO this is the most effective version of the slow intro to a song that Adam has done so far. Much more appropriate here than with FYE or Let's Dance on VH1 divas. I keep wonder what this track transitions into.... it makes me want to hear the next track. >> They call this an "Instant Grat" track but it is a "Instant I Need It All Now" track.

I hope this isn't a completely daft question, but would each of those 110 stations count as individual spins, or would it be one spin with a combined AI from all of those stations? I seem to have forgotten some of these radio rules since the last go-round! That is over 110 spins -- some Top 40 and some HAC and some are not monitored. >> I have not listened to it yet, but this counts if they played the whole song. If they played a clip, it will not count. Sometimes they do not want a syndicated spin too early because there will be a big bump up in spins, then the song will fall. I cannot find a current station list or a count by format this is from Feb 2014 when they hit 100 stations: The Daly Download with Carson Daly – This Week's Top 30 airs on 14 of the top 20 markets. Affiliations include WNOW, New York; KAMP, Los Angeles, WBBM, Chicago; KLIF, Dallas-Ft. Worth; WODS, Boston; WWWQ, Atlanta; WDZH, Detroit; WQAL, Cleveland; WVMX, Columbus, OH; WHBQ, Memphis, TN; and WPXY, Rochester, NY. Most stations broadcast this show on Sunday. Thanks for your answer, Q3. I listened to the link provided earlier in the thread by Bamafan, and they did play the whole song. This is just so much fun watching everything unfold and hearing all of the praise for GT and Adam.

Q3, Jill Scott is also releasing on June 16th and her last release did well. James Taylor is releasing too & since it's been so long for him, his numbers are a wild card! Hoping for a #1 for Adam too! 2 #1s in a row will be quite a nice stat to own! I will be campaigning for it release week! PIA style!!

They are both pop artists, they have the same target audience. They are definitely head-to-head from a commercial/sales standpoint. Are they different, sure. And I love one, the other not so much. But they have a lot of similarities. They are almost exactly the same age (Adam is 28 days older), this is the third studio album for both of them (I am excluding Nate's time with The Format and Adam's pre-Idol stuff), both released albums in 2009, 2012 and now in 2015, they are both singer-songwriters, they are both with WBM, they are white, male Americans born in the midwest in states with lots of corn and pigs and that start with "I" (Iowa and Indiana), etc. Three big differences -- Adam is an amazing vocalist, Adam is a fashion icon -- Nate wore "that NO PUT IT BACK painted jacket" ugh! on The Voice, and Max Martin and Shellback were EPs on Adam's album.

I didn't remember Constantine singing Bohemian Rhapsody but the Idol is over media reports linked me to his Idol version. I thought Constantine sounded a lot like Freddie, much more so than Adam and probably why the selected him for Rock of Ages. sidenote- shivers (and not the good kind)when Constantine looked at the camera and goosies when Adam did. So back to who should have fronted Queen since Nate has that push rock sound too. Quite easy for me to decide based on Roger and Brian picking sound/look alikes for the Queen Extravaganza. When you are the real thing as Roger and Brian are, why would you want a mimic up there in front? Despite all the homages to Freddie, QAL was not about living in the past but about creating something new on a great foundation. Some people just don't get the nuance and probably never will think about it hard enough for the light bulb to go on.

Jill Scott's last album released in 2011 -- and it sold 135K week one -- but it was a studio album. I don't think it is a threat. Also releasing that week -- I see only one threat on that list. Giorgio Moroder Savage Garden Everything Everything MIKA Sarah Cracknell Active Child Hilary Duff Hudson Mohawke Nate RuessNeil Young Third Eye Blind Yes, I want Adam to have his second #1 album too. And I want him to nab a platinum album in the US. That later will be very, very hard to do.
