As Adam gets more and more famous, I expect we will see more and more impersonators ..... I am trying to think of who in the pop world today is as easily identifiable by their movements and expressions and the only equal i can come up with is Gaga.... Who else? Many of the older diva's are easy...Tina Turner is a great example...and that is why she is copied far beyond what one might otherwise expect. Who amongst the males...Prince.... Perhaps those who rap are more easily identified but I don't watch them so would not know... As an aside...few of those with their own identifiable performance style ever got even to the finale's of Idol. Even Adam's personal performance style was not always so clear on Idol...he was more chameleon like. Compared to, say, Joshua Ledet. I can't think of their names now but there were a few....one who won but is always ridiculed even though he has done alright for himself...name fart here...with grey hair...soul patrol...

Instead of "made" they said "performed",also they added in the end:"who was at the show? Share your impressions", the rest is accurate

Recap of LONDON and MANCHESTER shows - on the 'better late than never' principle Chapter One : The Apollo, London
A return to the scene of those glorious QALs of 2012....but this time, it was Adam alone who managed a sell-out crowd. He must have been dreaming of that! We sat in the front of the balcony. Four years ago, I had been right there, looking down onto the Queen Crowd just as I looked now at Adam's Crowd - and I swear there were more of them for Adam! The gap at the back of the hall was smaller this time and the front of the GA was clearly very tightly packed - no surprise that people dropped like ninepins during the show.
And the back quarter of the standers was almost entirely male! With a fair number of Queen fans in their historic concert T-shirts, clutching their drinks, arms folded, knees locked into the 'no-dancing' position.....just as they do for Queen -
But they came to do it for The New Boy now.....
Strange recap I know - but I won't say much about the actual show. You have watched the videos (I haven't yet). It was good and Adam was brill (that's for Nica) and it was well-received...the cheers at the end were heartwarming but it wasn't 'amazing' for me. I felt Adam didn't really relax into it. It wasn't helped that the sound wasn't great where we were - his voice got lost a bit (this seems to have been a problem on the front of the floor as well) with the bass pulsating though the seats and balustrade, threatening to reprogramme the beats of our hearts....
So I'll just gossip....
We were on an aisle and on the other side were Sauli and his two girlfriends. I've seen Sauli before, not very close up, and although he is always smiling and pleasant, I didn't really think he was particularly good looking...
But...WOW! He looked so beautiful last week.....tanned, long hair, slightly more bulked out. I remember reading a tweet years ago that made me laugh...'what beautiful children Adam and Sauli would make together'. A few technical details aside....Oh they would! Sauli looked very happy as he chatted wth his friends and often looked around him to smile at neighbouring strangers, like us, in their seats. He was very open and unselfconscious; no celebrity edge. As far as I noticed, no one approached him. The three of them were like naughty children at the back of the class - they chatted and checked their phones throughout the show and went out and back, presumably to the bar, a few times....They looked like fun friends to have.
Just as Adam was about to start, the lights went down and there was a palpable wave of excitement in the balcony. A group of silhouettes were led out and seated at the front -among them, Roger, Brian, their wives, Boy George in a cap and Shoshanna. Have to say that I didn't actually see Brian but could see the others clearly when the stage lights came on and I kept having to sneak glances to see their reactions. Certainly looked like they were loving it. Shoshanna was really 'into it', leaning forward on the balustade very intently and several times joining the crowd in throwing her arms into the air.
It was a cute moment when Adam introduced his famous friends - he couldn't find them and everyone was shouting and pointing...a fun ensemble moment. I watched Roger...I think he is a genuinely shy and modest man... Of course, by the time Adam dedicated AOBTD to them and pointed to the balcony, they were no longer there and didn't see it. I had been looking forward to watching them watching Adam just then.....but it was understandable that they had to make their escape before being mobbed by fans on the way out.
Talking of the way out - I know people have asked about merchandise and there were two main salespoints in the foyer. They were doing amazing business after the show but I couldn't tell you anything about the merchandise. The good thing was that no one was being hurried outside - we milled around saying 'hi' to familiar faces. It was all very relaxed unlike after the QALs when we were hounded out onto the street.
(Can I go way off-piste here with my Apollo 2012 story? (while I clearly have verbal diarrhea)....just because I love it so much and it contains one of the most surreal moments of my life....).
After the final QAL show, the loos in the foyer were crowded and I snuck back to use the empty theatre-side ones. I found myself alone there with the singer Lulu (big star here) who was putting make-up on for the AfterParty. We chatted at the basins for quite a while. She was CRAZY about Adam and so upset that she hadn't discovered him until the last of three nights.
Suddenly, she burst into singing the chorus of We are the Champions! It really was surreal. In our chat, I said I thought they might play in NY soon. She then asked if she could go with me! Her usual escort, as that night, was her son....(he eventually asked my sister to go into the Ladies to check if his mother was ok.... ) I never contacted her - no NY show for a long while and me too shy. Then a very formidable security lady burst in and threw both of us out, no messing. She didn't give a monkey's who Lulu was or that she hadn't been able to smooth in the two blobs of concealer she had just put under her eyes... that lady had a job to do....
OK - back to 2016 : Strangest thing was the number of empty seats in the balcony, even though it was a sell-out - and in almost whole rows of the best seats. Some were half filled by people who came down from the Gods after the show started....but the row behind us was mostly empty and the row behind Sauli. Sauli and his friends were the only occupants of their row for most of the time. These seats probably weren't in the general sale - but some kind of planning went awry!
In all honesty, I felt a little low after this show; expectations too high perhaps after the incomparable sound quality in every venue in Japan. But I have seen enough shows to know that every one has its own character; it's what the live experience is all about. And so many others will have loved it, taking different parts away with different expectations from different parts of the venue... And I did so love seeing the Apollo packed out...and seeing Adam's famous, supportive friends 'off stage'....and doing it all with some of the very real and close friends that Atop helped me find when my civilian friends didn't want to know...and still don't
AND IF ALL SHOWS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME, THEN JUST 48 HOURS LATER WE WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD THE GLORIOUS....
MANCHESTER
To follow...
