Isle Of Wight Festival
The 15 bands you have to see at Isle Of Wight Festival 2016
From Queen and The Who to Blossoms and Yak
by Cai Trefor | Photos by WENN
Isle Of Wight's population is set to nearly double when the likes of Queen, The Who and Iggy Pop turn up to play on the weekend of 9 - 12 June.
The festival marks a special time of the year, the beginning of the summer festival season - yes, it's been a year already time to dust off that tent if you didn't leave it behind due to a hangover.
The Isle Of White is also special because it's one of the most iconic rock festivals on the planet, and is widely regarded as Europe's equivalent to Woodstock. In 1970 they had Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, and, Leonard Cohen on the bill. And in recent years line ups have been just as star studded with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, and David Bowie having taken to its stages.
This year is no different in terms of stature. Queen are playing their first ever UK festival, whilst The Who, and Iggy Pop are there too. Meanwhile, the festival has a great representation of 90s bands and new bands. We've picked apart the line up and suggested the top 15 for you to see over the course of the weekend. You can thanks us after.
Queen and Adam Lambert: Brian May and co have put their trust in former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert to step into Freddie Mercury's shoes. On paper it sounds like an unlikely match, but Brian May speaks so highly of Lambert and reviews of past shows point towards a triumphant performance. It's also Queen's first ever UK festival performance because they always liked to put their own production onto everything which is tricky on a shared stage. But, IOW have been very accommodating for them to do this apparently so expect something really extravagant to remember them by.

Adam Lambert explains how he came out for the It Got Better campaign
8:00 1st June 2016 by GT
In a brand new video the former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert opens up about his personal story, the moment he realised he liked boys and how he decided to come out to his family.
The singer songwriter starts off describing his happy childhood, surrounded by open minded and progressive parents. But it was in the sixth grade that things started to get “kinda strange” for him.
“Everyone’s bodies were changing, things were shifting and I started realising that I wasn’t wired the same way as most of the other boys. I felt guilty about it and I felt ashamed of it. I didn’t understand how to be that.”
The lack of examples in real-life and on TV resulted in Adam feeling like an outsider and a loner most of the time. He started to hide his true self until he made it into high school where he started to open up more.
Programmes like Will & Grace, that featured gay characters for the first time, lightened the whole topic up. “Laughing with my family about the same jokes allowed me to feel comfortable with them and made me realise that this was probably going to be okay with them.”
Right after high school, when his mother pushed him to come out, he finally admitted it and he says it felt “like a tons of bricks taken off my shoulders.”
“I didn’t want to conform. I wanted to be me. I didn’t want to fit into anybody’s idea of what I was supposed to be,” he continues. “And since coming out when I was 18 I stopped trying to hide it.”

Adam Lambert wins all-time favourite 'American Idol' contestant
Last week, Pressparty launched a poll to find our readers' all-time favourite 'American Idol' contestant.
The much loved vocal television talent show is now in its final season and has produced some amazing talent over the years, from country star Carrie Underwood to rocker Chris Daughtry and to 'Home' star Phillip Phillips.
In first place, with a phenomenal 94% of the vote is none other than 2009's runner up Adam Lambert. He came in second place on Series 8, losing out to winner Kris Allen. At No.2 in our readers' poll is Carrie Underwood. See the full results at the bottom of this post.
Lambert went onto enjoy an incredibly successful career and to date he has released studio albums, taken on an acting part in 'Glee', and travelled the world as the frontman of iconic rock band Queen.
Back in February, he opened up about the impending end of 'American Idol' and explained that it will be sad to see the show finish, but it's probably about time it wrapped up:
"It's an end of an era, Idol will always go down in history for what it is and what it did and what it represents for people. It came long at a time when I think we, as a country, we needed to come together and we needed to believe in something hopeful and give underdogs a chance and celebrate music and the diversity of music in our country. I think they did a great job, and it's time to pack it up."
The 'Ghost Town' superstar, meanwhile, will appear in the new remake of 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' and he told Idolator that he wouldn't have been comfortable playing Frank-N-Furter in the production in 2016:
“I kind of felt like in 2016, to be cis and playing the role of a trans character, it felt inappropriate to me. In the ‘70s, it was different. But nowadays we have such an amazing conversation that’s started about trans and gender in this world. I think casting Laverne was so brilliant. It’s so appropriate, you know what I mean?”
