Since there is NO NEWS today again, I hope it is okay to post this rather OT comment. JD has an EP coming out, and the first cut (single) has been released or hacked. What do you guess it sounds like? Screeching heavy metal with a pounding beat and JD soaring on top with rock wails? Not exactly. They have turned him into another WGWG (white guy with guitar). It is a cover of a laid back Green Day song, "Good Riddance." Tho' it is in a slightly higher key than the original, there is nothing new in this recording. Very similar instrumentals, arrangements, vocals, and interpretations.
When I read what JD wanted to do post-idol, what he was determined to do, what he had no intention of compromising, and then I listen to the first release, I think JD is now experiencing a different type of reality show. It is a harsh lesson. But, I am sure that JD is excited to have a recording released, regardless of the genre. He is making music professionally, which he wanted to do. It's probably "all good" for him.
Relating this to Adam? It just goes to show how much the industry people respected Adam's vision and supported it. I imagine it also shows how hard Adam worked to remain true to his vision, and what people and business skills he used to bring TPTB on board. It is things like this that reinforce how exceptional Adam is in so many ways.

Are you afraid or do you want to be in a cell with Adam. Is that a rhetorical question? No, I am fearless, I took an oath, didn't you watch BAYWATCH? Plus, according to Adam anything is better than meeting in a seedy bar.

That makes sense, due to the fact that Durbin always went wildly off pitch when he sang in his lower register. (and sometimes in his higher register)

Plus, according to Adam anything is better than meeting in a seedy bar. LOL, I don't know that he said that exactly. He just said it wasn't likely, but it COULD happen ... Whoa, haven't listened to the Durbs cover yet, other than the first few lines, which sounded note for note. Nothing like saddling him with an iconic song or anything. Or is that the strategy? They can't blame the material, because it's been beloved for 15 years and people with an affection for that song (which has been used in TV and movies for a decade and a half) are going to respond. I'd see it as a crap shoot. Either people are going to love a rebirth of the song or they're going to say, "Huh? What is he bringing to the song that Green Day didn't?"

Re Durbin - is that song actually going to be released to radio, or is it just one cut from the EP? I can't imagine it doing anything on radio, as it's a total copycat of the original. It doesn't even sound like him, IMO - although, aside from the high notes, I never found his voice to be terribly distinctive to begin with (and the high notes were frequently not distinctive in a good way).
I don't know how relevant the EP songs are for extrapolating what the Idols' original music will sound like, but I'd bet good money that James will not be "bringing Metal back" anytime soon if Iovine signs him. Adam was able to convince RCA that his artistic vision could be commercial; I can't begin to imagine Durbin convincing Iovine of the same where heavy metal is concerned. James was/is a big talker, but has always seemed completely ignorant of the realities of the business he was attempting to break into.

Can't Let You Go set to Brokeback mountain vid.Warning: A little intense! Can't let you go is a little intense. The song and film segments work well together. Who knows, maybe someone will eventually use CLYG as part of a movie or TV soundtrack It's kind of stange that Heath Legder is no longer with us. He was a very talented actor.

A complete imitation of the original with nothing new added. I don't get it. Why do they think there is a market for someone doing an exact replica of a song that is not all that old (in the grand scheme of things).
