I still rather mystified by the Lee indifference. He has done some stunning photos of Adam. The gold background? The Acoustic Live! cover? The Sleepwalker cover? All breathtaking, IMO and he captures not only Adam's outer beauty but his internal complexity. He conveys his intensity and emotions beautifully. I don't think any other photographer has come close to capturing the essence of Adam like Lee does. Jamie--can I have a bite of that crow? I've gotta say I'm kinda with you--the photo surprises me from Lee, too. While I agree Adam always looks gorgeous in Lee's photos, and comfortable, which makes sense when posing for a close friend, and I love all that (the photos are generous photos of him, if you know what I mean, taken by someone who cares for him, though its easy to be generous to Adam), I'm not a huge Lee fan (from an artistic perspective only). There's something a touch formulaic (or maybe formal) about his work for my taste, and a little too polished, a little too shopped, although I know that's just the business norm now. I guess I like my pics messier. I know this sounds silly but my favorite Glamily photographer is actually Isaac. Something about the composition of almost every on of his photos strikes me as fresh and interesting. He'll shoot half from behind someone, or have some empty space in the middle, or a lot of sloppy objects in the shot, or something I can't even put my finger on that helps focus and illuminate the portrait somehow. And this photo had almost more of and Isaac than a Lee feel to me, if that makes any sense. I know this puts me in a minority, though, and I'm happy for it, as Adam will surely stick with Lee, and Lee clearly also has the ability to surprise me (shows what I know). And of course I love Adam's loyalty, here. I'm in the minority with you midwivespal and jamie. I think the Lee photos are flattering to Adam, and clearly show a character/identity he wants to create to the world -- and it's a character we love too, for sure, but it's all a bit artificial. The heavily photoshopped faces, the poses, special effects, etc. In my 2011 calender sometimes I catch myself thinking the the different shots actually look like physically different people, not just different hair and costume. Some of them are extremely beautiful, like the acoustic cover, but what would a less photoshopped version of that look like? I want to see. I also prefer Isaac's approach, and I find this shot promising as it may indicate Lee widening his scope a bit as well. Basically I just want him to be shot by a lot of very experienced photographers who use myriad approaches from highly constructed, to extremely unposed. I wonder what happened with that woman shooting for the Russian fashion mag? I liked her work quite a lot. Also just gonna drop in another unpopular opinion. I'm not a big fan of Hans Haveron. The painting Adam based his tattoo on is one of his more interesting ones IMO, and his other work (unfortunately like a lot of street/underground/urban art, except for the really big names) doesn't seem to be playing with very interesting ideas or images, and the stylized nubile cartoon women don't do it for me -- I've seen too many of them in this genre. That said I do think that he or another artist collaborating on some of the design for Adam's promotional materials, album inserts, or cover, etc. could be really interesting. Here's an example of a mural collab he did which I like better than his own work: Here's one example of a possible approach to a fantastical painted album cover (a little dated, but it gives an idea): ETA: although given Adam's real, raw, organic approach on this album, I'd much more expect to see photography like today's photo, with any more artistic approach much more subtle or in the background or liner notes.

Re Lee Cherry and his photo's....it is entirely possible also, that Adam wanted the photo's to have this sensibility. Photographer's have to satisfy their clients....and Adam is a client as well as a friend....so the choices are at the least mediated or influenced by what Adam wanted..then and now.
just sayin.....
In my day, I have styled many a person's hair...and been professionally judged on that style....when I would have made some different choices myself ;-(

The new photo from the studio is gorgeous, but not the first 'gritty' pic Lee has taken of Adam. These are both Lee Cherry photos taken during the GNT. I think he is brilliant and shoots Adam like no other.

No way!! He is wearing his jeans that fade as they go down towards the bottom. Not my favorite jeans on him. The jeans are over the black boots or shoes. mys*&@^#r50
I agree with you. He's wearing those jeans but not with the black boots I think they're the grey suede ones, cause this jean is grey.At least this makes sense to me. Like this photo. ETA. BTW I love those jeans.

Rabbitrabbit two unpoular opinions in one post. Are you mad woman? ;D Both you and MWP are so much better at art speak than me, so thanks for putting into words what I felt. I agree with what you said about just wanting Adam to work in a lot of different styles and people. I also think your right about the Album cover. Although I love the photo today I can't imagine Adam going that simple with the cover. Love the Kate Bush cover. My favorite thing about Hans was the body/facial airbrishing work he developed. Would like to see him do something in that vein with Adam. I do love the skeleton key and everything it symbolizes. geezlouise, that first pic would have been great for the Live DVD. ;D

Seoulmate, I have never tweeted a photo before either. :-[ It can't be hard, right? I will investigate. LindaG23With your skills nothing is hard. Just copy the direct link from your photobucket and paste it on twitter. Or if you want to write more words on the tweet and the url is long for the 140 characters that we use on twitter, use this site that shortens the url. I tried it and now I connected it also to my twitter account and when I want to tweet something long I tweet directly from bitly. It has many options. Give it a try I think you'll like it. bitly.com/

I'm just excited to see the first 2nd era promotional shots because that might give us a hint at the design direction of the album.
