Arkadi Duchin, the first opening act from last night, is about to talk about Queen on channel 2, the most popular TV channel in the country ~~~ Apparently these two funny guys, Shai and Dror, from one of the radio stations, called the Ritz Carlton and asked to speak to Brian, to Adam, to Queen. One of them kept saying he's their sister. Dror: can I speak withMr. May please? Shai: Brian May please, I'm his sister Reception: Sir, we have no one of that name in the hotel D: and Adam Lambert? do you have him? S: Mr. Lambert, I'm his sister R: Excuse me? D: he may be under the alias Freddie Mercurie, because he's his substitute S: because he died and he replaced him R: No sir, I don't know anyone by this name D:no? S: do you have a room under "Queen", Queen, I'm his sister R: No sir we haven't S: but you know they're there, why do you play games with us? we need to speak to Mr. Brian May R: I'm at the computer. We have no one by these names D: don't be mad at us R: I'm not, but you're asking for names and I'm checking the computer, and there's no one by these names ... S: wait a minute, let me ask you something R: yes? S: an older man, with lots of white hair, who plays the guitar, is he in the hotel? R: Sir, I'm in the office, I have no connection to the guests S: can you get out of the office, go to the lounge and check? R: no sir, I can't. My job is to be in the phone room

My GOD.....THE PHRASING, THE SOFTNESS, THE CONTRAST OF POWER....A VOCAL MASTERPIECE This version really grabbed me....talk about being in ecstasy. Viewing and hearing on youtube shows the body language mirroring with the vocals. THAT carried this version to a crazy level of respect for this singer I already admire. QAL gave it their all to that audience. LUCKY LUCKY for the 55,000+

When I saw the YouTube of the live aid Radio Gaga with the joy of the audience rolling back in waves to Freddie and the band on stage, I vowed if I ever get the chance, I'm going to participate in that overwhelming shared JOY. Little did I know that I'd get the chance with Adam at the helm. I've had the pleasure of doing it eight times and it never fails to give me pure joy at the collective outpouring of affection for Queen. It is an incredible shared energy with thousands of like-minded individuals multiplying the energy that resonates with each heart. When I looked at vids from last night's version, my body tingled with joy yet again. How many times can I say "joy" in one paragraph--not enough to share one millionth of that feeling in person. I'm so glad Angelkrash and Katycake and other Atopians got to experience it last night. I wanted to post because I turned off the sound for some songs, because I again noticed the full body effort that Adam gives with each song. The man does an incredible amount of acting while he inhabits these songs. This physical effort really enhances the meaning of the songs, and sometimes I take that for granted, when it is so special. He transmits the meaning of the lyrics to the audience not just with his voice, but his entire body. One can only watch vids closely a number of times to see his cheeky wit interjected. He did a Walk like an Egyptian dance toward the band last night while wearing his crown that cracked himself up--that endearing ability to try anything and then let you know he is in on the joke. A special gift indeed. I'm overjoyed that I can share my love for this entertainer with like-minded folks here on Atop. While I was watching WWTLF and writing about the respect I had for the vocals/body language.... you were writing this brilliantly composed piece to articulate the same...but in a MASTERFUL WAY! Thank you! Loved reading this as it was so perfectly fitting with my feelings and thinking about the performances I have been viewing this morning.

I suspect his approach to inhabiting and conveying the lyrics and emotions thru not only voice but facial expressions, gestures, posture and movement was developed during his many years in musical theater. Whatever the reason, it is something I do not see in other pop singers. A few will vary the intensity, style or pace of their vocal delivery to interpret the lyrics, but even that is rare. Angelina Kalahari did a program about Adam's talent to interpret a song vocally, which is a great part of his performance mastery. soundbath.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/the-singer-as-interpretative-artist/ Because of his skill as a vocalist, Adam can evoke powerful emotions in his audience when we are only listening, and not watching. As you have so wonderfully described, when you add the visual component, you have a uniquely moving experience for the audience.

I am so in a different place right now! My friend who came with me said it was the best show ever. She said she could never say that anything is better than the Bruce Springsteen concert she's been to (B.S. is sacred to her), but this show was certainly up there. Way better than the Rolling Stones and all the other big concerts she's been to. And she said that Adam radiated joy on stage, and it's obvious he loves to perform and was enjoying every minute. I'm so glad I took a day off today, so I can stay in this little fairyland I'm in for a while… Sorry I'm so useless in the pictures/videos department, but I'll try to find some to bring over, and also see what needs translating. Whatever keeps me in Lambertland. Thanks for a great recap -- I felt transported. I once thought that the Springstein concert I had been to was the very best ever (and it was great - front row - Born in the USA -- E Street Band in all it's glory) - not now -- not after QAL. Enjoy your adventure into Lambertland - the afterglow lasts for days and days.
