Unfortunately, No! In most studies about countries' vacation times, the USA comes in at the bottom. :-/ I have a friend in Finland who has 8 weeks off this summer! Here it's usually 2 weeks, sometimes 4. Very rarely do people have more than 4 weeks vacation time. What about rest of the year. Do you get other holidays or is two weeks for the whole year? I guess about four weeks is the most common here too plus some in the winter time, but there are of course the teachers that get maybe about 2,5 months. Also some employees are really nice and exchange your holiday money to extra holiday. Do you have holiday money? It's the money they pay on top of your normal pay check when you take your summer holiday. I don't have holiday yet myself as I'm a student. This summer I don't have a job as I'm working on my written work. I don't know what it is in English, but it's the written work I have to complete to get the lowest university degree (not master's theses yet). In the US there are several names for a major undergraduate paper. Sometimes called an Undergraduate Theses, but often a capstone project. On the vacation question: There are different types of lists. The most common list is the number of mandatory vacation days. (US, Canada and China are tied at the bottom of the list according to CNBC.) Link: www.cnbc.com/id/33431347/Which_Country_Gets_the_Most_Vacation_Days?slide=21According to a recent survey from Mercer Consulting, Brazil and Lithuania have the most overall vacation days, while the US and Canada are among the countries mandating the fewest. The numbers include both minimum mandatory days off, as well as public holidays. Since these numbers vary and only represent minimum levels, there is no apples-to-apples comparison between countries. The real measure is average paid vacation day per year, where the US is almost always at the bottom with China: Paid Vacation Around the World The following table lists nine countries and the average number of paid vacation days per year employees receive in each country. Italy 42 days France 37 days Germany 35 days Brazil 34 days United Kingdom 28 days Canada 26 days Korea 25 days Japan 25 days U.S. 13 days But there are about 28 to 37 million people in the US who would be happy to work more hours/days/or at all.

I work AWS (Alternate Work Schedule) and get every other Friday off. If I wanted to, I could work 4-10's and have every Friday off. That's becasue you have been there forever ;D ;D New employees only get 10 days, which is 2 weeks. After 5 years you get 3weeks or 15 days, then you start accruing slowly Needacoke you got it so good gurl!!!!!!!!

That 26 days is a deceptive number for Canadians too as more and more of the work done in Canada is assigned as contract, part-time or seasonal and not qualified for paid holidays. I believe the number hovers in the mid 30% now for those in many/most universities receiving holiday pay. Food services and all levels of maintenance are sourced out. Most undergraduate classes are taught by either grad students or sessional/contract instructors. A lot of public service positions are now all contracted out...for example...postal delivery...securitity peeps...the list is endless. Our beloved 'social safety net' is pretty much a thing of the past. Current target of conservative choice is our medical system...it is depressing....sorry
HAPPY JULY 4TH.....don't eat too much!! :-)

This is how it works: New employee - 4 hours per 2-week pay period X 26 = 13 8-hour days off After 3 years - 6 hours After 15 years - 8 hours Forever - 4 hours sick leave every 2 weeks = 13 8-hour days a year I think we get 11 paid holidays and occasionally the president will give an extra day off at Christmas - usually if Christmas eve is on a Monday. We also get paid leave if we can't work - weather, etc. Got paid for a week when the electricity was out after the tornados.

If you work someplace that is open for holidays, I am thinking things like retail establishments, then you are most likely working. Today, in Cali, everything is open. It is a big sale shopping day!The 2 weeks, I quoted, are the only actual paid vacation days that many people get for the year. Then, after years with the same employer, the days build up. Q3's chart, above, is a good one. Poor Canadians and Americans! :( And as far teachers go, I don't know how it works in other states but here in CA, I get paid for the 180 days of the school year. Yes, I am off for summer, but the only way I get a paycheck is by choosing the option that spreads my 10 months of pay to 12 months. In reality, teachers get NO paid vacation days off!

As I've been working "forever" LOL, I have 27 days for summer vacay and 12 for winter. BUT - those days include 6 Saturdays which would be free anyway :-/. Ridiculous that they have to be included. So the real amount of days is 33. We could change the money to more vacation days, but I have never done that.

About federal jobs - I do personnel recruitment at my agency. To make the federal referral lists, it's a computer generated word game. >:( I'll be glad to give tips to anybody applying for a federal job.

@jianghomeshi It's the 25th anniversary of sexual orientation being added to the Human Rights Code in Ontario. Here's to Pride and no going back. #PrideTO Jian is a CBC reporter (He interviewed Adam when FYE was released) I agree Q3 about Adam's not going to go mainstream. And this is why. As an original artist he's never going to please everybody and maybe not even all of his fans. Some of his fans would always love what ever he's doing.. but some of them who stuck with MadWorldjustsitonthestoolsingingbalad Adam would not. Please don't get me wrong, I love his Mad World, but I also love him singing pop, rock and dance songs.. I love him singing musical and I love him singing opera .. But he might be going to go Mainstream Adam.. his own way of mainstream ;D ;D ;D ;D
