Adam Lambert, though, wins the performance trophy with his oh-so-brief turn as Eddie. He steals the show, then disappears.

Episode 7 Recap: Adam's Under 22's Sing For Their Seats
Not since Game of Thrones have we seen so many people fighting over a freakin' chair.
on October 17, 2016, 1:15 am
And while last night's X Factor didn't have dragons, there was certainly plenty of heat as Adam's Under 22s went into battle for a spot in his top 3. What are we talking about? The Three Seat Challenge, obviously. Brace yourself: another recap is coming...
The Most Expressive Mugs
Shout-outs to Amalia Foy & Natalie Ong. Not only can they sing - and boy howdy, can they SING! (more on that below) - but they're also so damn empathetic. We don't like to admit it, but if we were sitting backstage watching our competition getting critiqued and eliminated, we'd probably be grinning like the Cersei Lannisters we really are. Not Amalia and Natalie, though. Watching on backstage as their peers took on the Challenge, they looked less like next generation superstars and more like a pair of super cute emojis.
Bless.
Biggest Crowd Upset
Can we please just pause for a moment and appreciate how amazing the studio audience were last night? (Have we paused for long enough? Yes? Ok, carry on.) Between the cheers and the jeers, the "seats!" and the "swaps!", the crowd became an influential player in the game, swaying Adam's mind when our judge was wobbling on that fence.
Except, of course, when Ivy Adara took to the stage...
It wasn't Ivy's performance that had the masses riled up - quite the opposite, in fact; it was rightfully considered one of the best of the night. Instead, it was the loss of the person whose seat she swiped that got everyone up in arms. And when Adam gave crowd favourite Vlado his marching orders, no amount of screaming could bring him back. Will our Underdog Judge, Mel B, capitalise on this decision?
Riskiest Move
You gotta hand it to anyone who surveys the Three Seat Challenge and then says to themselves, "You know what? This challenge isn't scary enough already. I reckon I'm gonna sing a Queen song in front of Adam Lambert. Yeah! That'll up the stakes a bit!" We're not talking in hypotheticals here, team. That's exactly what Maddi Milewski said last night - albeit probs paraphrased a bit because science doesn't yet grant us access to her inner monologue.
And while Adam didn't particularly love the performance, it was enough to land Maddi a seat... for a while.
The Onion Award
Amalia Foy is an onion. Not only does her voice boast crazy layer upon layer, but girl can't come near us without tears streaming down our cheeks. Want a masterclass in emotional depth? Here, take this performance from a 14 year old (!!!).
Absolutely stunning.
Most Likely To Win An Endorsement Deal From A Shoe Designer
Not to reference two Mike Myers movies in a row, but who throws a shoe?! Honestly. The answer to that question is, of course, our judges. But for good reason, we assure you.
As Adam made clear when his boot went flying at Natalie Ong at the A Capella Challenge, a shoe-throw is the ultimate sign of respect (editor's note: maybe don't test that theory out with loved ones or co-workers just yet). And it became a case of deja vu as Natalie belted the absolute stuffing out of Etta James' I'd Rather Go Blind and the stage became a backdrop for a flurry of flying footwear.
Now there's a performance with ~sole~.
First Three Finalists
YOU GUYS! WE HAVE OUR FIRST THREE FINALISTS OF THE YEAR! The hugest of congrats to Isaiah, Natalie and Amalia. We'll see you at the live shows!
Who will be next to join them?
The Three Seat Challenge continues 7:30 Monday and Tuesday on Seven.

'You can tell I was moved by your performance because I'm missing a boot': Adam Lambert locks in his X-Factor top three...after throwing a shoe at Natalie Ong
By Hannah Moore For Daily Mail Australia

It was a tense episode of The X Factor, with nothing finalised until the very last boot.
Judge Adam Lambert locked in his team of three under 22-year-old performers after an astounding range of performances by the show's youngest contestants.
And Natalie Ong has received two shoes - Adam's equivalent of an Australian Idol Mark Holden touchdown - in two consecutive performances.

Before the 15-year-old performed, Adam explained that shoe throwing was an unconventional way he and his friends expressed appreciation for each others performances.
Her powerful cover of Etta James' I'd Rather Go Blind had both Adam and Guy missing a shoe - and Iggy wishing she could join in.
'If I wasn't a diva myself wearing a pair of thigh high boots I would have thrown my shoe right at you,' she told the young girl.

As the last performer of the night, Adam found himself in a tough position.
'This is hard, because I'm really happy with these three - I would have been totally satisfied just calling it a night,' he said.
'But I think you can tell I was moved by your performance, because I'm missing a boot.'
Impressed: Adam said: 'I think you can tell I was moved by your performance, because I'm missing a boot'
In a last minute twist, the school student was accepted in to the final three under 22's.
With Isaiah Firebrace the only performer to hold his seat for the entire round of auditions, the episode was a tense and at times heartbreaking experience for the singers.
Crowd favourites such as 17-year-old Vlado lost their seats to other young hopefuls - despite the audience chanting for his return - and others were axed without a second thought.
Risky: Maddison Milewski took a big risk with her song choice - choosing to perform Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever to Adam
16-year-old Maddison Milewski took a big risk with her song choice - choosing to perform Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever to Adam, who performs as a front man with the remaining members of the super group.
It was a risk that did not pay off, and Adam didn't mince his words.
'I did not like that performance,' he began.
'It felt choppy to me - I didn't believe you, not for a second.'
Not happy: Adam was not keen on Madisson's performance: 'I did not like that performance,' he began
After the judges conferred, he was persuaded to offer her his last empty seat, but did not hesitate to remove her when 17-year-old pop dreamboat Vlado rocked the crowd with Taylor Swift's Wildest Dreams.
But even punters favourite Vlado was unflinchingly culled when Ivy Adara performed Remind Me and earned herself a standing ovation from Guy Sebastian.
The crowd were not pleased with the swap, and chanted 'bring him back', but to no avail.
The show's youngest contestant Amalia moved fellow competitor Isaiah to tears with a heartfelt rendition of Kelly Clarkson's Piece By Piece, and her soaring falsetto had the judges and the top three on their feet to applaud at the end.
Adam will take Isaiah Firebrace, 15, Amalia Foy, 14, and Natalie Ong, 15, to the next round, and underdog judge Mel B is now able to pick up any of the contestants that did not make it through.

Rolling Stone’s "The 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time." American Idol #92.
#92 American Idol 2001-16
The glitziest of singing competitions, it gave the world memorable freakazoids like Simon Cowell, the hostile judge in a V-neck, and Paula Abdul, the semi-coherent judge who just loved everybody for believing in their pitchiest dreams. Idol never recovered from losing its original judges, in 2009 – when it went bad, it went bad fast – but it found stars like Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, William Hung and the "Pants on the Ground" guy.
