A performance fit for a Queen comes to the valley
By: Carmen Garza Jun 27, 2017
Once the convex screen depicting an animation of the robot made famous on the 1977 News of the World album was hoisted up by cables, this signified the kickoff of the legendary British rock band Queen + Adam Lambert's long-awaited, world tour at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on Friday, June 23.
Original members of the infamous British rock band Queen - lead guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor (minus the late frontman/singer Freddie Mercury and the retired bassist John Deacon) - transformed the arena into a Parliamentarian temple. Special guest singer/performance artist and American Idol alum Adam Lambert displayed his unique gift of flamboyant sophistication. Not missing a lyric, charismatic Lambert took the crowd into a night of nostalgic remembrance.
Queen + Adam Lambert pulled no stops with their one-of-a-kind operatic set. Lambert displayed his bright red hair and a red, white and blue outfit that would make any American feel proud. He even made two wardrobe changes before the last song. The last outfit simulated a silver metallic spacesuit. Performing the band's signature arena rock, lead guitarist Brian May's superior guitar riffs sent shivers throughout the audience while Roger Taylor's drum beats ricocheted off the walls. Except during the songs while concertgoers were busy getting their groove on, there wasn't an empty seat in the house at this anticipated sold out show.
Setlist:
"We Will Rock You"
"Hammer To Fall"
"Stone Cold Crazy"
"Another One Bites The Dust"
"Fat Bottom Girls"
"Killer Queen"
"Two Fux"
"Don't Stop Me Now"
"Bicycle Race"
"I'm In Love With My Car"
"Get Down, Make Love"
"I Want It All"
"Love Of My Life"
"Somebody To Love"
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
"Under Pressure"
"Who Wants To Live Forever"
"It's Late"
"Radio Ga Ga"
"Bohemian Rhapsody"
"Spread Your Wings"
"We Are The Champions"
No Queen + Adam Lambert show would be complete without an appearance by the beloved iconic rock 'n roll singer Freddie Mercury, who materialized in a jumbo sized hologram. This brought a true sense of nostalgia to the show. May's heartfelt and touching performance on the acoustic song, "Love of my Life" brought a deafening silence to the fans as they noticed Brian wiping a tear from his eye with the last strum of his guitar.
Queen + Adam Lambert is a definite must-see, true rock-and-roll powerhouse to experience in concert. For current North American and the upcoming U.K./European tour information, you can buy your tickets here.
