When Adam Lambert appeared on the eighth season of American Idol, people couldn’t stop talking about the shape-shifting, 6’1” singer with the glam-rock sartorial flair, razor-sharp sense of humour, and jaw-dropping, powerhouse voice.
2009 saw Lambert release his debut album ‘For Your Entertainment’, for which he received a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” (for his smash hit ‘Whataya Want From Me’), in addition to scores of international awards and honours, and he also became the first ‘Idol’ to do an International tour to support his debut album.
Lambert channelled his newfound fame into raising awareness about issues close to his heart, advocating on behalf of LGBT causes The Trevor Project, Equality California, and GLAAD, as well as for charity organizations MusiCares, charity:water, and DonorsChoose.org, and continues to do so.
Released in May 2012, Adam’s second album ‘Trespassing’ debuted at number one in both America and Canada; a historic triumph as Adam became the first openly gay artist to reach the top spot. Adam collaborated with Pharrell, Nile Rodgers and Bruno Mars on ’Trespassing’ which went on to be named the Best Album of 2012 in Rolling Stone’s Poll.
Adam’s work with Nile Rodgers led to the legendary producer and songwriter calling on him to co-write and provide vocals for ‘Lay Me Down’, one of the singles from superstar DJ Avicii’s chart-topping album ‘True’ which was released in late 2013.
Following on from a guest role in hit US TV series Pretty Little Liars and presenting ‘VH1 Divas’ show, Adam joined the cast of Glee for a six episode story in October 2013, making his debut as Elliot “Starchild” Gilbert in the episode ‘A Katy Or A Gaga’. While his performances racked up millions of views on YouTube, critics praised his “amazing”, “glamorous” performances and “powerful” vocals. Following his debut, The Stir declared: “Adam Lambert saves the day!”.
Summer 2012 had seen Adam perform a series of shows across Europe with rock legends Queen. As well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland, they performed three sold-out gigs at London’s Hammersmith Apollo. Now in high demand, the highly sought after partnership went on to make a critically-acclaimed rare live appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2013.
The announcement of a North American arena tour followed early in 2014 to much excitement, selling out immediately. Kicking off in June, the spectacular shows have thrilled both fans and critics alike. Rolling Stone called Adam “brilliant”, while AntiMusic declared the union “pure majesty”. The Chicago Sun Times praised Adam for his “impressive take on the material” and paying “appropriate homage while adding his own flourishes to the mix”. Further brilliant shows followed in Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Adam’s 2015 got off to a stunning start as he saw in the New Year performing live with Queen on BBC One in the UK. With 13.5 million watching, ‘Adam Lambert’ became the most searched on Google UK for 4 days. Extraordinary reviews for Queen + Adam Lambert followed as their world tour reached the UK, including 3 sold out shows at London’s O2 Arena/Wembley Arena.
Adam released his highly anticipated third album, ‘The Original High’ in summer 2015, which entered the worldwide chart at number 3, and took his overall worldwide sales to over 3 million units. The album was his first for Warner Bros Records, and was executive produced by Max Martin and Shellback. He completed his worldwide tour in support of the album, playing sold out shows all over the world, and went on to headline festivals across Europe with Queen.
Adam has also been a judge on The X Factor Australia where his artist, Isaiah, won the show. He is currently recording his follow up to ‘The Original High’.
