Adam Lambert at the EMAs 2011 Belfast, Ireland on Scoop with Raya Published on Apr 25, 2012 by MeeeRa22
RT ...we did a TV show with Adam Lambert last weekend. It was great fun. He was magnificent, actually. Of course, nobody can replace Freddie.
DJ I think everyone was thinking Adam Lambert would, you know, it's just the natural, perfect fit. Round hole in a round peg.
RT Well, you know, in some ways, yes. I mean, but the thing is Freddie had such a unique personality. It was just part of us. You know, the way he would put things over and present songs to the audiences, but I'd say Adam does, he fits in beautifully, when we play with him. He was sensational, actually. His vocal range is unparalleled and I can say he's grown up a lot in the two years since I've met him and he looked great and he sounded great. I mean he's a lot of fun to work with. So, you know, that was fun. I guess we'll probably do that again.
DJ Well, that, it sure seemed like a good fit. We listened to a couple of clips. It just sounded like it worked.

I am so pumped up by Adam's performance tonight that I can't go to sleep. So, here is my review.
"But it's been no bed of roses. No pleasure cruise. I consider it a challenge before the whole human race, and I ain't gonna lose! We are the champions."
Adam Lambert burst onto the national stage in the 2009 season of Idol. An example of how talent can be discovered, molded, and created by the program, and then, go on to a successful recording career. ...... NOT!
Adam's whole life, since the age of ten, has been focused on being a performer and artist. He studied his craft for years, he pounded the pavement, he knocked on hundreds of doors which were mostly slammed in his face. He was undaunted. He continued to build his voice, build his performance skills, build his knowledge of music of all kinds. He had the talent, he had the training, he had the experience, he had the vision, he had the determination and perseverence.
At the EMA awards show on November 6th, Adam dug down deep and called on everything in his impressive arsenal and gave us a quintessential performance. This is not an emerging artist. This is not an effemeral pop singer here today and gone tomorrow. What we witnessed, what we heard, what we saw, was Adam claiming his place as a world class performer with confidence, skill and power.
The vocals were amaaaazing. He used all his technique, all his knowledge of his body, and produced a sound that was strongly influenced by his classical training and background. It was much more than singing the right pitches, hitting the right notes. The sound evoked the power and finesse of an opera tenor, while modifying it to fit the classic rock numbers. His articulation was crystal clear. His attack, his subtle bending of notes and phrases gave the performance the emotions inherent in the songs.
He claimed the stage with his posture, his presence, his prowling. At the same time, his performance was in service to the tribute to Queen, never elevating himself above the song or the members of the band. He started his ethereal vocals in shadow, as if saying, "Who I am is not important. What I am singing, what we are creating, what we are paying homage to is key."
He threw the focus repeatedly to Brian May, encouraging him, acknowledging him, egging him on, enticing him onto the catwalk with him, leading him out front to his fans. He at once threw himself into the performance with total abandon and fearlessness, subsuming who he was into the greater total of what was being created. Yet, by doing that, and by doing it so masterfully, he was also being quintessentially himself. I do believe that only Adam Lambert could have accomplished that performance that night.
Adam has arrived. Adam has claimed his power and his place. It is magnificent to see and hear.
Just finished chatting with Angelina Kalahari, the UK opera singer and Adam fan. Of course we discussed the Queen performance. She was blown away by it like the rest of us. She heard the narrower vibrato, and thinks that it was done to fit the operatic style of the Queen music. She said that she hears a new level of mastery in Adam's voice. She noticed the change from the London concert she attended to the one she went to at St. Agathe this summer and wondered if it was just a one time thing. Hearing him at the EMAs confirmed to her that it is a genuine growth in his skills and power. She was amazed at how different (yet still Adam, just moreso) it sounded in such a short time. Wondered if he had been working with a vocal coach or just really concentrating on his voice on his own. With both the St. Agathe and the Queen performances she saw that Adam has embraced his craft as a confident superstar.
We chatted about a lot of details we noted in the Queen performance, and Angelina is going to try to put together a program on it .... but may not be able to get to it until her schedule lightens up in a month.
I asked her your question about whether this was a style of singing that would eventually hurt Adam's voice, and she said, "No." He is singing with the absolute best technique, and the power rock sound comes from a way of squeezing the muscles in his throat, not from straining or pushing his vocal cords. So, we don't have to worry about Adam blowing out his voice like Adele apparently did. I asked her why Adele had the problems when she would have learned proper vocal technique at the school she went to. Angelina said that the school does not concentrate on proper, classical technique (which is really the only way to sing with power without damaging the voice eventually).
She is really totally down the rabbit hole about Adam's voice, abilities and technique. Says he does things with his voice that many opera singers have not mastered. And this from a lady who just finished touring Europe teaching vocal masterclasses and is now working with people who are preparing to audition for England's version of "The Voice." High praise indeed.
The Show Must Go On (Queen song)
"The Show Must Go On" is a song by English rock band Queen, featured as the twelfth and final track on their 1991 album Innuendo. It is credited to Queen, but written primarily by Brian May. The song chronicles the effort of Freddie Mercury continuing to perform despite approaching the end of his life. Mercury was so ill and could barely walk when the band recorded the song in 1990, that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. Recalling Mercury's performance, May states; "he went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal".
It was released as a single in the United Kingdom on 14 October 1991 in promotion for the Greatest Hits II album, just six weeks before Mercury died. Following Mercury's death in November 1991, the song re-entered the British charts and spent as many weeks in the top 75 (five) as it did upon its original release, initially reaching a peak of 16. A live version with Elton John on vocals appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III album.
The song was first played live on April 20, 1992, during The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, performed by the three remaining members of Queen, with Elton John singing lead vocals and Tony Iommi playing rhythm guitar. It has since been played live by Queen + Paul Rodgers with Rodgers citing one of the performances as the best of his career. Since its release, the song has appeared on television, film, and has been covered by a number of artists.
The Queen Crest was designed by Freddie in '72. It consists of two lions (Leo, the Zodiac-sign of Roger and John) holding up a Q (Queen) with a crown (royalty), a crab crawling on top of it (Cancer, Brian's sign), two fairies (Freddie's sign Virgo) in front of it, and a Phoenix (representing eternal rejuvenation (always remaining innovative, really a prophetic picture)) over the 'Q'. en.allexperts.com/q/Queen-566/Queen-Logo.htm
And where you think you have seen everything and there's nothing more cool than Lady Gaga, something new comes along and shakes your previously calm waters. We¢re talking about Adam Lambert, known from American Idol , who after a live appearance on stage with the legendary Queen at the MTV Europe Awards ,discusses an upcoming tour in partnership planned by the band. His arrangement of ''The show must go on''and''We will rock you / We are the champions'' that they made together at the international awards, seems to have been the beginning of a lot if anything special cooperation! So let us get a little taste of what will follow, if both parts agree.
They also have a YT video from the EMA's awards taken from a fan with TSMGO.
Roger Taylor wants Queen to play with Adam Lambert again
Queen drummer Roger Taylor, spoke again about the possibility of Queen working with Adam Lambert. The legendary band and the singer played together for the first time at the American Idol finale in 2009, playing "We Are The Champions".
Since then, innumerous rumours emerged about de possibility of Adam (temporarily or permanently) joining Queen, since his vocal range is similar to that of Freddie Mercury.
Recently, Adam sang with Queen again at the MTV EMAs ceremony, in Ireland, in November; They played a medley of some of the band's hits: "The Show Must Go On", "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions".
Roger Taylor has been creating a Queen tribute band and a respective tour, the Queen Extravaganza Tour. During the preparations, the drummer talked about Adam Lambert to Billboard:
"He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."
Then they have a link to the AI "We are the Champions" performance.
Picture the scene – a cold Tuesday night in York, nothing on TV. I was channel flicking and stumbled across the closing performance of the MTV EMAs. Queen were performing with a singer who I’d never heard of before – Adam Lambert.
Every once in a while, an artist comes along with a voice that makes you stop in your tracks. It was only after the after the performance had finished that I realised I’d actually stopped what I was doing to give this guy my full attention.
I went to my favourite source of information to find out more:
I was completely unprepared for what happened next.
Within 48 hours I’d received 516 messages, been retweeted 349 times (reaching a total audience of over 303,000 people), and picked-up 218 incredible new followers.
Since asking that question, I’ve spent a great deal of time this week listening to Adam Lambert tracks and watching YouTube videos of live performances. I’ve also been sent some wonderful messages from Adam’s twitter fans – the ‘Glamberts’ or ‘Glamily’ as they like to be known. I thought a great way to find out more would be to look at some great facts about Adam, so I tweeted another question:
This was met with much the same response as before.
After many, many messages from the Glamily, here are my Top 10 facts about Adam Lambert:
01. In 2011, beat competition from Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber & Snoop Dogg, to win the MTV O Award for ‘Must Follow Artist on Twitter’.
02. Adam is an opera-trained counter-tenor who can hold a note for 22 seconds.
03. His porn name is Maggie Longfellow.
04. Although Adam was runner-up in Season 8 of American Idol, he has gone on to earn more than many of the winners, before or since. He made Forbes list for being the the 2nd highest earning American Idol (tied with Daughtry) at $6 million.
05. He is naturally a redhead.
06. For his 29th birthday he asked fans to donate to Charity:Water, saying he would like to raise $29K. That was raised in a matter of hours. In total $323K was raised. Adam’s fans have donated more than $1 million, in his name, to such charities as The Trevor Project, Charity:Water and Donors Choose.
07. Adam is the first talent show contestant to be asked to sing the theme to a major film before even releasing any of his own material. In July 2009, he recorded ‘Time for Miracles’ for the film ’2012′ that was released in November 2009, two weeks before his album.
08. The only US Idol contestant to tour worldwide after releasing his first album.
09. In the finale of American Idol, Adam Lambert performed ‘Mad World’ and received a rare standing ovation from Simon Cowell. Earlier in the competition, his version of ‘Tracks of my Tears’ received a standing ovation from Smokey Robinson.
10. Counts Meat Loaf among his celebrity fans: Meat Loaf recently said in an interview: “Adam Lambert is the only singer that I’ve ever thought was amazing. I think there have been great singers, you know, Freddie Mercury, Steven Tyler, you know, a lot of great rock singers. Michael Jackson was one, but Adam Lambert is one I haven’t been awestruck with since [Janis] Joplin in the ’60s. I don’t think anybody actually comprehends how good this guy is. I mean, I downloaded everything he did for “American Idol.” I’m like this Adam Lambert groupie.”
My apologies if I forgot any really important ones – feel free to add more of your favourite facts in the comments box!
Signing off now – after a crazy week, in which I’ve picked-up a ton of new twitter pals, discovered a new artist…and become a Glambert.
Check out this performance of one of my all time favourite songs and join the club:
