I had never heard of Jobriath either...interesting. A poster at Live Journal says Adam has been listening to Jobriath on spotify lately. In that article it made me chuckle that he got 5 encores at the Univ of Alabama. Who knew we were so "hip" back in the 70's. lol I graduated in 1971...so I just missed him. I have vague memories of reading of Jobriath some time ago...most likely via Adam but not necessarily... If Jobriath is the subject of the musical Adam has been writing on [and it seems very likely, and I hope so] it is no wonder he has been playing with his freak flag of late. It would seem a natural after putting yourself in that mindset, and feeling such kinship to the character. Adam is a very strong, complex man with a sure sense of self. This must be a real labour of love for his community. It will be interesting to see if he actually performs in the production...other than a smaller part. Not because he would not do an exemplar job, but because creating is a different baby from performing, with its own satisfactions. Wh knows...on the other hand, women have been producing and creating performance vehicles for themselves of late, because there was little out there for them to really commit and shine. I guess time will tell us on this score. All I know is, I will really really want to see this and it will be exorbitantly expensive for me to do so...at least that will be so if it opens in New York. Now if it were to play in LA, that is a different matter. And if it is a Brit adventure....well...sigh... Can you tell I just love speculating??? It means nothing.....

I first heard of Jobriath when Adam came along actually, lol. Not from or about Adam but someone who said JB was the first openly gay rock artist signed to a major label. I had seen a lot about Jobriath after looking him up on youtube (on tv) and the Glam Rock era. It basically said his music was secondary to all the hype around his look and presentation. He didn't connect and was made fun of by many. He was perceived as more of a character than an artist. That is almost the kiss of death for most artists gay or straight. Or they are taken less seriously if not careful or go overboard. Of course, if that is what you are going for... Didn't take off like Bowie. It was a pretty sad story, imo. But my guess is the musical will be more about his style and presentation and less about how it did not work out for him. I see little about him that would remind me of Adam if he is who his musical is about (and it does not need to be).

That was my first thought anyway. ETA: Bill Kaulitz is adorable...has he always been so cute? Love the bleached hair.
