Y'know, someone here - yesterday or today, can't remember - posted that they wondered if Adam's single would be able to please ALL of us. And I thought, no - he can't do that. Not EVERYone. But there's the whole album to come . . . and I actually do think that that is going to have something to please EVERYone. Absolutely. He has to have 3-4 100% radio friendly songs on the album. The rest can be for his artistic vision! ;D Also -- those radio hits also sell tour tickets and touring is (along with merchandising) where the real money is made by an artist in the music biz. For professional reasons when I am at a show, I always ask the people around me what drew them to the show. When I was at the GNT shows, it was a 33-33-33 split between die-hard Adam fans, Idol Adam fans and radio Adam fans. In other words, about 1/3 of the ticket holders bought tickets because of WWFM. (The remaining 1% had bought tickets because of IIHY. One young woman in particular stuck in my memory because she sat quietly in her chair -- which given that everyone else was standing meant she saw nothing --- through the entire concert until IIHY, whereupon she jumped to her feet and began flailing like a craaaaazy person.) So those radio hits are important above and beyond generating chart numbers or selling downloads. They help spur the much more lucrative sales of tour tickets.

A New Single!by Mark Graham Excert: YESSSSSS! We have barely been able to breathe for the last 12 hours or so, ever since Adam Lambert sent out this tweet earlier this morning: “Countdown begins…. 12 hrs until a big unveiling….” All day, we’ve been pacing around the office, staring at our watches every couple of minutes, constantly refreshing our Twitter feed, wondering what the one and only Glambert was going to offer up to us. Would it be a special holiday video message to his fans? News that he’s joining Queen on a full-time basis? A picture of him wearing nothing but a piece of mistletoe?Well, it ended up being none of those things, but we’re not complaining because guess what? A NEW SINGLE IS ON THE WAY! Adam just dropped the cover art for his new song, “Better Than I Know Myself,” on Twitter and announced that “it drops on December 20th! avail on all digital music providers. Happy Holidays!!” We haven’t heard Adam’s version of this track yet, but we’re huge fans of the demo of this song that Claude Kelly cut back in 2009. This song was written by Dr. Luke and Claude, both of whom has a history with Glambert; they co-wrote the title track off Adam’s 2009 debut, For Your Entertainment. (Most versions of “Better Than I Know Myself” have been scraped off the Internet, but if you search hard enough, you’ll be able to find it.) We’re going to do our best to stay calm until Adam’s release of “Better Than I Know Myself” in six days, but until then, check out his full cover art below! Bolded bit certainly works for me 8-)

I didn't like the demo, but I have listened to the snippet six times, and I am in love with it. I cannot wait for the real thing. I can sing that high note right along with him too. I am so excited for the 20th. He is his usual magnificent self. Just wait. I think it is an ear worm.

So I have had time to calm down and process. First off, the cover art is superb. I hope the album cover is a striking as the single cover.
As for the snippet, while it's hard to make a full assessment of whether I like it or love it or hate it from a snippet abt 30 seconds long, I will say that it does sound pretty good. The voice is up front, it's ear wormy as hell and very sing a long-able which I am glad they kept from the demo, and the production is more modern. Some people are complaining that it sounds too much like the demo, but then again we only heard the CHORUS which was arguably the catchiest part of the demo in the first place. We have no idea how the verses may have changed or what the bridges sound like. I really think this has a good chance of succeeding on radio. Yeah it's the *safe* choice but Adam has to play it safe for his first single off his most important album so far. Even safer than most artists for a multitude of unfair reasons that, hopefully with time and success, will fade away.
This is make or break time. Let him succeed with the safer, more radio friendly choice, and then hopefully he can smash again with more adventurous and/or dancey stuff. Besides he has a whole album of songs to be more artsy.
Srsly tho. I dunno how anyone can say it doesn't have a hook (yes I have seen it lol). Isn't a hook a part of the song, melody, etc that just burrows into your brain? Am I wrong? Because that chorus does just that. It's simple yet catchy enough to remember....perfect for mainstream radio success imo.

Listen to a 30-second snippet of the Dr. Luke & Claude Kelly-crafted song over on Amazon — it’s a bit more power ballad-y than we expected, but either way, it’s new Adam music, so we’re not picky. (We’re also loving that palm tree hairstyle on his single cover art, too!)
