I am probably way over thinking this, but:
In a recent interview Adam acknowledged that the new EP was not for his long time "older women" fans. It was something he did for himself. So, I don't think he is expecting "us" to necessarily buy it or love it.
Do you think that the timing of the release followed shortly by the announcement of Adam soon appearing for the first time in a Broadway musical is intentional? That he figures the EP is for that part of himself and the musical is something that will please his more traditional (older women) fans who like the Broadway side of him?

I don't remember him ever saying specifically that the EP "was not for his long time "older women" fans." He did say he did it for himself in one of the interviews. I haven't had a chance to go through every article that I've posted yet though.. I think it would be really satisfying for him, and so cool, if he found some success with this music that he so loves right now and is of the moment. He was bold and brave in putting this music out which is so different from the music we're used to getting from him. I'm glad that he's using all the colors in his enormous crayon box and not limiting himself to just a few.. I don't find this music a waste of his talent as someone else said, just another exploration of all the different shades and colors of his musical palette. I'm really enjoying the exploration, and am happy for him. If there's a connection to be had with the Broadway musical, this new direction would seem to be very compatible and a precursor to how he will have to transform himself in the musical, in terms of his performance style (with dancers) as he would have an ensemble around him on stage, and the many different visual looks he's created for this album, as he will have to do for the musical. That's the only connection that makes sense to me if I had to try to connect the dots...

Why drop an album which you cannot promote next to interviews about Broadway Cabaret? Eddie did a few TV appearances regarding Cabaret.

I think Adam himself has answered the question about if he expects the older fans to like this new EP in the papermag interview that was posted here yesterday: Q: You talked about that catch 22, and I always associate your fans with being old ladies. Like, you have a lot of old lady fans. Adam: They’re old ladies! They are. I mean, I think it's the Idol audience. They got excited that there was somebody repping for that era. I did a lot from the '70s and '80s when I was on the show, and I think they were excited because it reminded them probably when they were younger. And so I captured that imagination and nostalgia for them, I think. Then you add the Queen experience to that, and it's like, I have connected with an older audience. I definitely have, and they've been so supportive and so sweet and coming to shows for the last 15 years and wearing merch. I definitely think for some of them, this [new music] isn't quite their lane or their cup of tea. I'm hopeful that because they've been so loyal thus far, that they'll understand that this is really a project that's for me. Like, this is for me. It's my truth, it's my sound, it's my lifestyle, if you will. And I feel like I've been around long enough and I've worked hard enough where I have every right to write about that. Do you know what I mean? I think the "reinvention" word is really cool. As a creative person, doing the same thing over and over again gets really boring. I wanted to try something different.

Adam made the EP for the gay community not for his fans, whatever their ages. Most likely he released the EP as close to Pride as he could but wanted to perform those songs at the Pride events, so he didn't wait for the EP release. I wonder if they held up on the Broadway announcement to not to step on his release publicity.
Can only speak for myself, but I became a fan because I love Adam's singing and his talent. Don't need him to prove anything but I prefer his ballads and music that make you feel something with meaningful lyrics and rock. I gave up clubbing after college and exchanged it for "corporate mixers." Had a lot of fun dancing and meeting people from different companies in the area but soon outgrew that too, lol. Even the more formal corporate parties/dances later were sorta required but not that frequent. And they were either formal affairs or called for a little cocktail dress. And nothing like "Lube" or "Wet Dreams" or anything sexually explicit would have been played. So yep, I became "too old" to want to dance and party to dance music in gay clubs or any clubs in my early twenties. HA. But this is meaningful to Adam so for that reason alone, I hope it is successful and that his community is loving and supporting this music.
I have only seen a few clips of Adam in theater productions. But I'm excited for Cabaret because everyone else is. HA. And happy for fans who are getting the Broadway show they have wanted. And it is a great opportunity for him.

I was thinking more like the EP is his "summer" thing, much the same as Mighty Real last year. He had to have known about Cabaret when he did this EP and he said it was done pretty quickly. I think the gay community is into theatre, so I think his friends will also be into that. Can't wait to see the Broadway side of him. Hoping he is there for awhile (of course, that is, if all of this is true...LOL ) Actually, I think we are alll over-thinking the EP, myself included, as he says it's music not brain surgery.
