But it seems that no matter how hard Adam tries to run away from rock, he is still mostly viewed at as a rockstar and not as a pop or dance music star. And that is no small fete for someone who has never even put out a rock album, lol, unless you count the live rock album with Queen. Don't know what the answer is but it seems that pop stardom is a much harder sell for him (and many male singers). And even the gay community is not really buying the dance/pop music from him as this EP did not do well. Can't say I'm surprised tho cause they love their divas more and of course he is not Beyonce. HA. But it made him and his friends happy so hopefully we get more music from him in the future with a more universal appeal. In the meantime, it is wonderful that he has so many other opportunities besides music to showcase his talent and give him exposure. I think Cabaret will bring him a lot of press in the US. And of course The Voice in Australia. And I would not be surprised to see more opportunities for him out of the UK when his schedule allows. Carrie Underwood has been chosen as the new Idol judge to replace Katy Perry. Interesting that now they have two country judges with Carrie and Luke. It should be renamed Country Idol, lol. But I guess it does not matter as they have not produced any Idol star winners with high profiles in years.

lurleen, I think that the term "rock" is often used as a blanket term for all genres of popular music, even when it's not really rock. It's been said that even current country music is just rock/pop with a Southern accent. I think that when a particular song, from any genre, catches the attention of the public, it can become a big hit. And not all big hits stem from being on the radio with big label support, Sometimes they're just lucky flukes. I sure wish Adam would get one of those. Sure, in a perfect world he'd get a big label-supported hit, but that doesn't seem likely any time soon. In the meantime, we're going to see him on Broadway, which hopefully will be well-received and open more doors for him. QAL has given him a financial cushion. He can afford to try different things.
I just want him to keep himself in show business and in the media in some fashion for the long haul. That's how you create a life-long career. It could be album/tour cycles, TV appearances and performances, live theater, activism, spokesman, media personality, whatever. Some big stars and a huge but short-lived career, then disappear. Adam has many talents, and I hope it takes him through a long life entertaining people.
And it's true that Idol hasn't produced a big star in ages. Not since Adam, IMO, though some may disagree. And The Voice has never had any, to my knowledge. I've never watched that show, TBH. Yet, I'm sure some of the contestants on both shows have nice solid music careers, doing what they love. They're just not superstars.
