WELCOME TO THE MOON GARDEN
The Moon Garden Lounge is dedicated to the discussion of ALL things Adam, broadly defined, from the serious to the fun-loving. Nothing is sacred, including the idea that nothing is sacred. There are no limits on the ideas that can be expressed or the questions that can be asked here. Here is the place for talking about the whole tapestry of Adam, his journey, and your own. All the normal Adamtopia rules apply here. Please respect the fact that freedom of thought and development of ideas require peace, tolerance, space, equality, and compassion. You are in the same room here with your fellow human beings. This is a place for respect, for wit, for intelligence, for having a good time. Talk to each other like we're all having a drink at the same table. Everyone is welcome and you don't have to be an egghead -- just order your adult beverage of choice -- coffee, tea, or something stronger -- and join right in. Frequently asked questions Is this the place for me?If it looks fun to you, probably yes. If it doesn't look fun, probably no and that is OK. Most of us post on lots of other threads and we'll see you there! How is this thread different from The Dark Side thread? This thread took root in another thread called The Dark Side, which was created so people who needed to vent their frustrations about this Adam journey could share and discuss those ideas in a safe place. It turned out that Adam fans come in many different flavors. So that EVERYONE could speak freely and have fun, we divided into two threads. Many people post in both! The Dark Side is a place where news and opinions that might be considered too unpopular or negative on other threads can be discussed and analyzed freely and in-depth. Want to start off your day with a good debate? Well, what are you waiting for?! The Moon Garden Lounge is a place for the dreamers and rainbow chasers ... a place where some see things that are and ask why ... and others see things that never were and ask, why not? Kick back and relax...general conversation and drinks all around...on the house. Don't like either one? That's OK too! All we ask is that both spaces be allowed to exist for fans that may be a different flavor than you. *** [original post left below] [sees new place in town] Why Hello, Dark Adam. Are you the barista here now? [dodges thrown pages of what appear to be radio statistics] [orders a cup of pomegranate tea] [weeps quietly with gratitude]

Thanks Junie for the link and Jamie for creating the thread. I feel bad that I didn't do this a long time ago, but I thought everyone was content staying on the "dark side." I thought you guys knew that you could start you own thread. Sorry--I have started a thread in the salon before with this whole purpose in mind and it died :(. Skylar has tried many times as well.
Junie, did you send links to everyone who has been posting moon gardeny things? I really want everyone to stay and play here!
Maybe someone more eloquent can describe the "vibe" in the moon garden.
Tomorrow I intend to send personal invitations to ATOPPERS who I think like this vibe and refer them to read some of the great things left behind on the dark thread so they can join us in the conversation.
ETA: Junie, just saw your link on the dark thread. Thanks!

Mika--you did not embarrass me in the least. I am thankful to be appreciated and, to be honest, have always been a little jealous of Cayman . Please don't be silenced, unless you prefer to hide away for a while. I cannot tell you how many times I have scrolled through a thread hoping to find one of your literary references. I gravitate toward the tangentially Adam related posts and I loved the easy going conversational nature of the "dark thread." Yes, it is about the music, the voice, the spirit of Adam. But I have tapped into something more than that. I cannot separate Adam from this online community. I have been trying to figure out why I'm so drawn to ATOP, these conversations, and you wonderful people. There is a feeling here, some days more than others, that reminds me of a feeling I had in my childhood. My father was a professor of Philosophy and he would regularly host dinner parties for his colleagues. I loved sitting quietly in the corner watching the exchange of ideas. I didn't understand what they were talking about much of the time, but I knew it was important and exciting--and for some reason I felt like I "got it." But most importantly, I was not dismissed because of my youth or lack of knowledge. I felt respected, welcomed, appreciated. This is what I feel here. I don't want to lose it.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!! Nice!! Thank you, juniemoon, for the PM! Thank you, jamie, for creating this thread!! I so love the moon for many personal reasons. So glad to see it's the first picture here. When I need to talk to my Mom or Dad, both deceased, I often look to the moon and visit with them then. Their song was *I'll be seeing you* from the WWII era. The Bing Crosby version was their favorite. One part goes *I'll be looking at the moon, and I'll be seeing you*. I was really missing my Dad yesterday, on Father's Day, but there wasn't much of a moon out there. Just a tiny sliver, but I still wished him a Happy Father's Day and had a short visit. He was such a very gentle man. Someone posted Dance With My Father Again on twitter. I listened to it, shed a few tears and then felt a bit better. LOL! Got a bit side tracked there. Oops! Anyway, this is awesome and I'm happy to see those who have showed up so far. Jamie, that moon pic is mesmerizing. Think I'll just look at it for a while. Ohhhhhhhhh, and the bridge, lake and cottage. How nice is that? So relaxing after a tough day at work. And, for once, it wasn't my fault things were messed up, but it was a struggle to try & fix it and no one seemed to want to listen to me, well except for one gal who is always nice and helpful. But, by then, it was a bit late to fix what happened earlier and things were off the whole day. Oh well, over & done. Going to let it go and just relax here for a while & then get some sleep. Been up since 3:15AM but don't want to go to bed too soon & wake up really early tomorrow as I don't have to work then....lol! I do seem to ramble on when I'm tired, don't I? LOL! Somehow, I don't think you mind here, and there's always the old *scroll* feature. HAH!! Mika, I hope you find your way here and continue to post as much as you are able. I always find your posts very interesting and would miss that so much! Do we still have the big tent & all the floor pillows? I'm ready to kick back & relax! ETA: ugh! typos...lol!

I was sent for.
Thank you, Juniemoon, and thank you, Jamie, for making the Moon Garden Lounge ... I love that name, though I was growing fond of Re: 22-5-12, actually ... I think like Rosencrantz and Gildenstern we were all sent for by the Dark Thread, by a chance to spend some time underneath, and names didn't matter very much ... But the beauty and sharing of the place did, and does.
The video is Mika-bait.
I am a little like Adam (very little!) in that I would be hard pressed to name a favorite book or movie or play, but this one would be right up there.
Thanks, again, for sending up a flare.

Alison, we really didn't know we could start a thread! I hope we have better luck with this one than the ones you referred to earlier. I hope skylar comes out to play, I love her. Please invite anyone you think would love it here. Moving is hard work. Tomorrow, glittergma, we'll move in all the pillows and Moroccan decor. If anybody has anything in the old thread they were particularly fond of, just go back and get it and bring it over here. And what is a moving day without pizza and beer for everyone who shows up? I found a kale pizza: And here's to new beginnings and good friends and good conversation: Night all.

Thank goodness you set up this lovely retreat for us Jamie! I look forward to popping in tomorrow and posting something more cohesive than I could put together tonight....yawn.... who knew it was this easy... it always feels good to be somewhere you want to be and that you designed as you wished.
We might consider meeting in the chat room periodically too...for the fun of it :-). I keep going in and looking about but there is rarely anyone there. Just a thought...
Going to go now ...there is a special on scientology and I know very little about that. :-)
sweet moon dreams you lovelies :-)

Jamie made a whole universe?!?! And brought all of our landscaping. She's a wonder that one. Junie - Dark Adam and Light Adam would run the coffee/teahouse together - it would be verry popular. (sniffs w/you but pretends it's a sinus condition) Alison - Thank you and I agree so much - but i'm a little verklempt to get my words out. oh, oh!! I'm running around looking at eveything! It's a total Mika trap! Ewan McGregor over there! (hai, Ewan! Can you pleaase meet Adam and get a hugging pic out to me asap? thnx!) And Mirages! You have my number, wicked one. I love Arcadia but truth be told R&G is my favorite ever AND that clip has many of my favorite lines - esp after 07:00 and G's whole summation of their exchange w/Hamlet. I have a friend and coworker who shares my love - and at difficult moments when he's being irritatingly reasonable, I glare at him and say " Pragmatism!? Is that all you have to offer?" I have imagined a production with a slightly different vibe and Adam as The Player. (he'd be awesome) And, Glittergma, Mellie, and Mszue! Yay! It will be so nice to have a place to take refuge with such good friends-may weird kids everywhere be so fortunate. Thank you Jamie, quiet benefactress

~FOR MY MOONSISTERS AND BROTHERS~ WE'LL GO NO MORE A-ROVINGby: George Gordon (Lord) Byron (1788-1824) O, we'll go no more a-roving So late into the night, Though the heart be still as loving, And the moon be still as bright. For the sword outwears its sheath, And the soul wears out the breast, And the heart must pause to breathe, And love itself have a rest. Though the night was made for loving, And the day returns too soon, Yet we'll go no more a-roving By the light of the moon. But we will, Mr Byron, we will... This place looks pretty damn good in the daylight too. Light Adam, I like what you've done with the bookshelf. Keep up the good work. Wow, breakfast tacos? Yay! [takes one] I can't help laughing at the disparate array of pillows peppering the place. And someone has a penchant for odd '50s chairs. Gratitude: is what I feel for the ever-generous and astonishing people here. Your posts about the moon and your dads and your thoughts and Byron make me cry. In a good way. Remember when Adam danced and cried at the same time? Like that. Alison, I loved what you said about being drawn to this community and the opportunity to feel respected, welcomed, and appreciated. mszue, it would be cool to meet in the chat room. I haven't even looked to see how it works on my computer. Where is everyone, physically, anyway? I am in Texas. mellie, going to read your essay now. You guys, I will try to write something later today or tomorrow to describe the "vibe" and what this thread is for ... a welcome mat so to speak ...

Back from reading mellie's essay.
mellie, I believe that RCA has made mistakes every step of the way in marketing Adam. That is what I meant a few days when I said they wanted a widget salesman. They look for interchangeable units of music. They sell it as a product, not as art or balm to the soul. If that happens, it's just an accident, not anything the record company does.
I almost cried the other day when Adam himself was talking about some song on Trespassing, "It's your treadmill music!" he said brightly.
I felt that a little piece of Adam's soul died at that moment. Thanks RCA.
You and I have talked about Adam in terms of the civil rights movement. I knew Nat King Cole was the pioneer artist for pop music for blacks, so I went and Googled around to see what I could learn about him and how he and his contemporaries were treated by radio.
Well, a quote from a radio executive said it all: "No n------loving shit goes out over this network." Most were not so blatant, just cowardly. When blacks appeared on integrated radio programs, some stations refused to carry those shows. When networks did try to introduce black shows starring artists like Cole and Mahailia Jackson, resistance from advertisers and some stations created so much controversy that the shows were cancelled.
Interestingly, this was in spite of the fact that the artists were popular with whites and blacks alike. Most people were not racist jerks and just wanted to hear good music. There was a huge audience, a huge appetite for the music. But that didn't matter. This was deja vu for me reading about this.
Entertainers who protested their poor treatment and called for courage and defiance were punished, and their careers suffered. Blacks were excluded from management positions in the radio industry as well, though they did work as DJs.
Interestingly, in the meantime, comic portrayals of blacks thrived -- Amos and Andy being the most famous example.
I think this is part of Adam's problem -- not just that he is gay, but that he is defiant. He is not a clownish and non-sexual gay. He is a funny, witty, intelligent, and sexy gay who has their number. And boy do people hate it when you have their number.
I also think gay men need to step up. If they are in the industry, they need to come out, and make a stand, even though they will be called whiners and worse. If they are aspiring in the industry, they need to get behind great, real music, not just be tools for The Man.
I was interested to read that the black artists had to overcome their lack of acceptance with live shows. They basically put together revues with lots of artists on the same bill, and traveled the country. This is how artists like Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and others became known.
I would love to see Adam put together a traveling musical revue with himself as the headliner. A "Zodiac" type show with great, creative musical and dance artists. Fans of one artist would come to the show and get to see them all. They could all sell records and merch and help each other.
Also, TV seems more accepting than radio. I am resistant to the idea of Adam judging a reality TV because I find them so degrading, so I am not sure about that. I would rather see him hosting his "Zodiac" type show over cable and performing his heart out and showcasing other alternative and creative artists, and maybe talking with visual artists, fashion designers, authors, other creative people. Wouldn't that be amazing?
That and building up an international audience seem like the best bets for Adam right now ... my 2 cents. Loved your essay and thank you for making me think and learn something! We Shall Overcome.
