That arena looks like it is open at the top - retractable roof? Hope the bad weather predicted does not "dampen" the event. Though I would stand in a downpour to listen to Adam sing.

Swarm ... I just want to thank you for your brilliant post at the end of yesterday's thread. As a giant Queen fan, I've been aware of all the points, and all the history, that you brought up. Thank you for voicing these thoughts.

talonThanks for posting the perspectives about the Queen fan base. As someone, maybe Nica, said up thread, it definitely helps me understand some of the tone and attitude about QAL, although I, myself, love every new opportunity to hear Adam sing live, lol, and as a member of the pesky new casual fan demographic/market Queen may be trying to attract, I am enjoying the current song selection as a re-introduction to their work. (I was thinking about purchasing a greatest hit CD yesterday, so there you have it.) That's great :D That's one reason I really appreciate the collaboration. Fans ask so many questions, and sometimes artists, who are thinking hopefully, try to answer them and appease them and keep them excited about their projects, but then real life and/or pragmatic issues get in the way and those promises don't come through exactly in the time or manner hinted at, leaving fans feeling let down and/or lied to. Exactly. I think sometimes people don't understand that artists are people. Sometimes they say things because they are true at the time or even that they think it's the truth. But things change all the time for reasons we don't know about... I was interested to hear Roger say he had an album coming out in, was it November? That's what he said - of course about 3-4 years ago he was almost done with it. BUT this is the first time anything resembling a date was given. I hope he sticks to it. Rog's solo stuff is very ecelctic but very fun. They are all out of print here in America, I don't know about the UK but there is also talk about a box set of his in the future....again who knows on that though. Happiness is a great simple album that is very melodic, while Electric Fire is much more disjointed but rocking. Releasing music is so complicated and is such a process. Absolutely. But, Adam has written 50+ songs that we will never hear?! Is that reason to hate on him? To be fair, Adam is alive and will make MANY more songs for you to hear so not hearing the 50+ rejected ones wouldn't matter too much. If Adam, god forbid, died tomorrow those 50+ songs would become INFINITELY more precious I would think... I love that talon can do a well thought out rational explanation, but I still don't get it. I almost feel like the anger towards R & B, by that vocal minority, is because they have displaced their anger over Freddie leaving them too soon. Psychology 101 here. :-/ It happens all the time and is a natural grieving process to get mad at the ones that are left. But, 21 years later, it really should be over. Roger and Brian chose to move on and live. These fans should too. But as Talon said, I am sure they are really a minority. It's like us debating, Zac, Cam, Kevin, Brian......... 500 fans at any Adam concert might care. The other 3500 don't give a f*ck! I'm sure it is anger but it is also frustration...one B&R feels as well I'm sure that how do they continue in the way they've forged out. They kind of flop around from mini-project to mini project. I think a lot of the fans do feel some form of frustration, but the vocal ones won't be happy with anything except maybe the mythical anthology. In a way, even when they're criticizing Adam, it really isn't personal. He's just not Freddie. Not Adam's fault and to his credit, I think he understands that. This is very true. No one would have been a "good" choice. There are a few that are well respected that might have seen an easier transition. 1. George Michael almost solely based on his performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert which was admittedly extremely good. I don't see where he'd been any better than Adam on the rocking performances though... 2. Jeff Scott Soto due to a performance he did at a Queen convention with a TON of deep cuts. I do like Jeff, but I'm not clamoring for it. But none would have been "good". Furthermore the stigma of AI hurts even more. AI is everything NOT rock so anything involved with AI is of the dark side. I've always maintained hate the game not the player. I mean I think AI etc. is bad for music. I do watch so I'm part of the problem I guess, but I watch it for the voices and some are very talented. And it's not their fault. They are doing what they have to to promote themselves. BUT for rock audiences and Queen fans definitely - the AI tag is one that is hard to get over. It's less Adam personally. Most Queen fans, even those against the project will say that Adam is talented and has a great voice. Late to the conversation per usual, but wanted to thank Talon for such a well-written and thoughtful description of the Queen fandom. Fandom is like religion...it doesn't make a whole lot of rational sense, everyone's version is slightly different, and it often fulfills a deep emotional need to be connected to something that seems bigger than the individual. Then you add in the primal response we get from the actual art--the music itself...no wonder it can get so intense. No surprise that some react the way they have to Queen 3.0, or 4.2, or whatever this is. In a way, even when they're criticizing Adam, it really isn't personal. He's just not Freddie. Not Adam's fault and to his credit, I think he understands that. Oh, and I did actually buy the Queen's GH album the other day as I lost my vinyl in some move or another in the past twenty years. Wouldn't have happened if not for Adam's involvement, so I guess I count as a former casual Queen fan who has now circled back! Oh, and I did actually buy the Queen's GH album the other day as I lost my vinyl in some move or another in the past twenty years. Wouldn't have happened if not for Adam's involvement, so I guess I count as a former casual Queen fan who has now circled back!
Again...awesome! If anyone wants suggestions on where to go for deeper cuts, I'm more than happy to advise Talon. Let me add my thanks for the perspective you add to our Queenbert discussions. I have a much better understanding. You're very welcome...thanks to all for giving warm welcomes! Queen has archived audio and video that they are miserly holding on to while producing drek now? Or could it be that they have material that they deemed unsuccessful or not of high enough quality to be released at the time, much less now? I think most artists have a ton of unreleased material in various states of completion. Adam, a new artist, already has perhaps another 30-40 songs we are likely never to hear. Just because it exists doesn't mean Queen or Adam have an obligation to fans to release something they are not completely happy with. They do not have any obligation. no. And one of the main reason IS because Brian and Roger don't think it's up to snuff. that is their choice. Part of the problem is bootleggers. Some tracks have leaked - not in great quality but still have gotten to the hands of collector...and we (I include myself) think it is absolutely up to snuff or at least interesting enough to warrant a release. [/IMG] Hell, I would still be married to a cheating, lying, abusive husband. Life is about change and about moving forward, which Adam embraces and champi
I agree, they have the right to change their mind. And in this case I still don't even think they ever did. All the interviews i ever saw never slammed the singers on the contest shows, just the contest shows themselves and the celebrity culture of those looking for celebrity for celebrity's sake alone.

OMG. I looked at the Adam calendar I made for 2012, and there are two pictures I chose for July. The first is Adam singing the national anthem with the American flag behind him. The second is... Adam and Brian performing at the EMAs. What a coincidence. We had no idea about Queenbert in December when I made that.
