A New Life Is Born
Written by Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano
- Sound familiar? Well the intro of this song was pinched for the beginning of Breakthru but where the NOW! part comes in instead we get Freddie at the piano for a lovely ballad in progress with of course the typical Freddie trying out lyrics.
PERSONAL NOTES: I wish he would have completed it - in the vein of Lily of the Valleyfrom Sheer Heart Attack (in fact I made a remix splicing the two together that went perfectly!

I Guess We're Falling Out
Written by: Brian May
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- Obviously an incomplete demo with a lot of de dee dees and adlibbed verses.
PERSONAL NOTES: - The structure is there for a great track! I wish it was finished!
Next up? A completed jam demo that was used for the fan club. One of my favorites because it's just so fun. Freddie and Roger duet on Dog With A Bone

Dog With A Bone
Written by: Freddie Mercury/Brian May/Roger Taylor/John Deacon
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano, drum machine (?), spoken words Roger Taylor - lead and backing vocals, drum machine (?), spoken words Brian May - guitar, backing vocals, spoken words John Deacon - bass guitar, spoken words
- The band jammed on this track and recorded it - I believe specifically as a gift for the Fan Club Convention. At the convention a version was played with the band having spoken messages for the fan club. That version is below.
PERSONAL NOTES: - One of my favorite tracks from the band's 80s output. It's fun, silly, and just really shows the band having a great time together. Plus I'm a sucker when Roger sings with Freddie...so it just works!
Next up! Last demo from these sessions, the once mythical Face It Alone

Face It Alone
Written by Freddie Mercury (?)/Brian May (?)
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, keyboards Brian May - guitar
- This was quite mythical for a while - a 10 minute mournful ballad initially believed to be part of the last Queen sessions. It was later discovered to be a part of the Miracle sessions instead. It is also FAR from complete. Plenty of lyrics left out and a lot of wandering keyboards and guitar.
-- IN ADDITION THERE ARE A FEW MORE TRACKS I KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT FROM THIS ERA:
Brother of Mine
Written by Brian May
That's the extent of my knowledge although there has been claims that it was a ballad.
Everybody Needs Somebody Had To Believe Me In Search Of Love
All three written by Freddie Mercury. They are reportedly lyrics written by Freddie that were never recorded.
NEXT? We return to Anita Dobson for the last time as Brian adds his skill to a one-off single with In One Of My Weaker Moments

Anita Dobson - In One Of My Weaker Moments (Single)
Written by: Don Black/Mort Shuman
Musicians:
Anita Dobson - vocals Brian May - guitar
Unknown all else.
- Released as a one-off single from the soundtrack to Budgie it is the last (to date) collaboration musically between Brian and Anita.
ALTERNATE VERSIONS
DRAMA MIX NO YT VID - Unfortunate about no video as this is a superior version - more of Brian is heard!
INSTRUMENTAL NO YT VID - As titled, a non-vocal version.
PERSONAL NOTES: - The same as most of the Anita-Brian collaborations. A nice song. Nicely done, but far from spectacular.
NEXT UP? Brian and Roger do some charity on a cover of Deep Purple's Smoke On The Water with an all star jam for an Earthquake riddled Armenia.

Rock Aid Armenia - Smoke On The Water (Charity Single)
Written by: Ritchie Blackmore/Ian Gillan/Roger Glover/Jon Lord/Ian Paice
Musicians:
Brian May - guitar Roger Taylor - drums
Joined by: Bryan Adams, Geoff Beauchamp, Ritchie Blackmore, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Downes, Keith Emerson, Ian Gillan, David Gilmour, Tony Iommi, Alex Lifeson, Brian May, Paul Rodgers, Chris Squire and Roger Taylor. John Paul Jones and Jon Lord
- Rock Aid Armenia, also known in earlier stages as Live Aid Armenia, was a humanitarian effort by the British music industry to raise money to help those affected by the 1988 Armenian earthquake.
- Initiated by the international charity campaigner Jon Dee, the project comprised a number of singles, compilations and a documentary. A special record label Life-Aid Armenia Records was established for producing and distributing the releases by Rock Aid Armenia.
- All of the Rock Aid Armenia projects were coordinated by international charity campaigner Jon Dee. Dee started the project after overseeing the satellite transmission of footage from the Armenian earthquake zone which he distributed to TV newsrooms worldwide.
- Brian and Roger were glad to join in with some of their friends.
ALTERNATE VERSIONS:
1989 RADIO MIX - NOT ESSENTIAL - A slight edit
1989 EXTENDED AKA MAYHEM MIX - NOT ESSENTIAL - A few more instrumental bits
1989 MEGA ROCK MIX - NOT ESSENTIAL but nice - remixed to be a bit more rocking in vibe.
1990 RADIO MIX - NOT ESSENTIAL BUT NICE - Close to the Mega Rock Mix but a bit edited down.
2010 WERMUT & DEE REMIX
- ESSENTIAL - Cleaned up and polished - a great video chock full of Roger and Brian.
IAN GILLIAN VOCAL TAKE - NOT ESSENTIAL - Instead of everyone taking their turn this is Ian, the lead singer of the original tackling it amongst stripped down production.
SESSIONS WITH BRIAN MAY & DAVID GILMOUR
PERSONAL NOTES: Seeing Brian and Roger on a true rock classic? Great. Adding Tony Iommi, Dave Gilmour, Bryan Adams, Ian Gillian, etc. to the mix? EVEN BETTER!
NEXT? For the next few posts we will delve into Brian's MANY 1989 Collaborations as he works with Living In A Box, Holly Johnson, Gareth Marks, Black Sabbath, and Artists United For Nature while still finding time to score a staged version of Macbeth!

Brian May - 1989 Collaborations Part II
Fuzzbox - Self!
Written by: Vix/Maggie Dunne/Jo Dunne/Tina O'Neill
Musicians:
Brian May - guitar Vix - vocals, violin Maggie Dunne - vocals, percussion, keyboards, guitar Jo Dunne - bass, guitar, drums, piano Tina O'Neill - drums, saxophone
- An alternative girls group that's also known as We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It. - The single hit #24 in the UK. The B-Side? A cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Brian was not involved with that.
ALTERNATE MIX
SELFISH! MIX NO YT VID - NOT essential, slightly extended.
PERSONAL NOTES: Again another Brian hitting a spot on solo during an okay song.
Gareth Marks - Lady Of Leisure
Written by: ?
Musicians (Known):
Gareth Marks - vocals Brian May - guitar
- A novelty item from an actor best known for his take on the Big Bopper.
PERSONAL NOTES: Not my cup of tea to be honest.
Gareth Marks - Boppers Boogie Woogie
Written by: The Big Bopper
Musicians (Known)
Gareth Marks - vocals Brian May - guitars NO YT VID
Gareth Marks - Go Bopper Go
Written by: Gareth Marks
Musicians (Known):
Gareth Marks - vocals Brian May - guitar
NO YT VID
- Both tracks are from Gareth's tribute to the Big Bopper.
PERSONAL NOTES: - These are rarities that aren't widely released but I like them better than Lady of Leisure but not enough to listen to too much.
Black Sabbath - When Death Calls
Written by: Tony Martin/Tony Iommi/Geoff Nicholls/Laurence Cottle/Cozy Powell
Musicians:
Tony Martin - vocals Tony Iommi - guitar Geoff Nichols - keyboards Laurence Cottle - bass Cozy Powell - drums Brian May - guitar
- Brian has long been very close friends with guitarist Tony Iommi and they have collaborated on several things over the years and may be collaborating on a riff album in the near future. - Brian also worked with Cozy Powell who would become a fixture during his solo career before his death from a tragic accident right before Brian's second solo tour. - In another connection, on the NEXT Black Sabbath album, Neil Murray would play bass. Neil would also become a fixture in the Brian May band, work in the We Will Rock You house band, and play some dates with Queen + Paul Rodgers when Danny Miranda missed time due to an illness.
PERSONAL NOTES: I love when Brian works with very talented rockers as sometimes he seems to whore himself out to just about anyone which isn't necessarily bad but it does make these occasions a bit more special.
Next up? MORE Brian goodness. The last of the Miscellaneous and Collaborations. Brian works with Artists United For Nature as well as scoring a stage version of Macbeth.

Also uncludes: Carol Decker, Harold Faltermeyer, Herbie Hancock, Tommy Johnson, Stevie Lange, Michael McDonald, Richard Page, Maggie Reilly, and Sandra.

ALTERNATE VERSIONS:
EXTENDED NO YT VID - NOT essential, no more Brian
INSTRUMENTAL NO YT VID - NOT essential, just without vocals
NATURE SOUNDS NO YT VID - NOT essential, just added nature type noises.
PERSONAL NOTES: Like most charity type songs, it's not a bad song, a bit cheesy, but decent enough.
And I know I promised Macbeth but I just realized as I looked at my notes that Macbeth was in 1990 not 1989! SO you'll have to wait.
NEXT? Another brief post as we delve into 1989 live...there ain't much there!
