- Brian met Kerry while she was performing in My Fair Lady and he asked her to audition for We Will Rock You.  She got the part of Meat which sings this song in the musical.  Brian later asked to record it with her, feeling she had made her stamp on the song.  

- This is an orchestral version done along with Roger they did as a download single.  It was brought along to the Anthems album as well.

- WONDERFUL version. Brian sings the second verse this time in a very low key, almost bluesy-spoken way but it is very effective because of how emotional he is. One of my favs...


NOTE - Queen also recorded this with Eva Maria (from the Spanish cast of We Will Rock You and did a Spanish language version Solo Por Ti (back in 2004 - but I kept it to go along with this version as it is the same musical backing).  There is no YT vid of that performance.

PERSONAL NOTES:

An awesome song. Kerry really has made it her own I have to say and that's hard for me since I love Queen and love the original and what it stands for. But either way it's a powerful powerful song.

NEXT? For some reason Brian wanted to do a QPR song....and renamed it...Some Things That Glitter is taken a NEW direction both titular and in arrangement and we now get I Loved A Butterfly

- Originally recorded and released as Some Things That Glitter by Queen + Paul Rodgers on The Cosmos Rocks. Why the title change? No idea. Perhaps because it is done in such a different way.

- Noted by Brian that they decided to do it stripped back as it is as she wanted a Love Of My Life type of moment for their gigs so it was at Kerry's suggestion.

2010 COLLABORATIONS PART I: QUEEN + TAYLOR HAWKINS

So Taylor Hawkins took some time off from the Foo Fighters to record a solo album of sorts with his sideband - Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders, as well as trying to record a tribute to the Beach Boys' Dennis Wilson.

Brian and Roger helped out on almost all the ventures!

Holy Man (London Mix)

Ok this one requires a bit of a story. In 1977, Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys released his only studio solo album titled Pacific Ocean Blue. During these sessions Dennis recorded the instrumental (at least portions of it) to a track entitled Holy Man. He abandoned it before it was finished and it was left off the album. Dennis died in 1983.

When it was reissued, it was released as an instrumental. As a bonus track, Taylor Hawkins was brought in to finish the song and provide a vocal reminiscent of Dennis. He did so and here it is:



NOW at some point, Taylor approached Brian and Roger to do a special remix of the track that would be on the single entitled (The London Mix). Reportedly Brian added guitar and maybe some vocals, while Roger added some percussion and vocals. BUT for whatever reason the mix wasn't used and it has languished in some vault ever since. Sad. I would like to hear their additions on a beautiful song.

I do have a demo that was played at a 2001 convention which is Brian's version but there is no video of it and it is not great quality.

FURTHER - Brian's missus Anita Dobson was in a play, Two Sisters Brian recorded music for it but it is not known whether it was incidental or a score or even a song. It has never leaked.

2011 LIVE PART I: ANTHEMS TOUR

After the Anthems album was released and the few sporadic live appearances (especially at the Proms in the Park), Brian and Kerry decided they wanted to take Anthems out on the road for a short basically month long tour (with a few later dates)
It was the first time in a long time that Brian dressed glammy himself in kimono type outfits and jackets.  It was a well crafted tour.  Kerry Ellis has a very nice voice although her performances are a bit...unexciting...but still it was a nice show.

Hungarian Rhapsody

A little background

Recorded during the 1986 final Queen tour, this was seen as a big deal. Queen was knocking down barriers performing behind the Iron Curtain as it were to a sold out stadium. It can basically be seen as an alternative to the Live at Wembley release.

It was filmed by a Hungarian director and released as Live In Budapest on VHS in 1987. Unfortunately footage not used in the film was destroyed (reportedly) and so the concert is slightly edited. When purchased by QPL, Queen remastered the video completely and decided to showcase it in theaters around the world. It was also released on blu-ray and DVD with an accompanying CD of the concert which restores the missing tracks.

It is a phenomenal presentation, however some Queen fans viewed it slightly bitterly as a little bit of a waste of time.

It had already been released on VHS back in 1987, so all we were getting was a remastering basically. Which in and of itself isn't bad BUT at this point we still have no 70s concerts or early documentation and we've had several re-releases of Live At Wembley which is practically an identical setlist. If they had done this much later on after a few 70s shows, I think there would be less whining. But ah well.
