Brian May & Kerry Ellis - Born Free
Written by: John Barry/Don Black
Musicians:
Kerry Ellis - vocals
Brian May - guitars, keyboards
Rufus Taylor - drums
- The above is actually the video version - the single version has no wildlife noise, etc.
- Written for the film Born Free starring Viriginia McKenna about a lion. Performed by many people including Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, and Roger Williams.
- Don wrote a new verse for Kerry.
- Usually Brian and Kerry did the song acoustically and only on one occasion have they done a full band effort.
- Became the focus of Brian and Kerry's next tour.
ALTERNATE VERSION
ACOUSTIC VERSION
NO YT VID
- The bonus track on the download was the acoustic studio version that most of the live performances are based on. You don't really need it with the below live versions
CANDLELIGHT CONCERTS - LIVE IN MONTREUX
- Live in 2013, this is just like the acoustic version
PERSONAL NOTES: It's a nice song. An oldie but I really like the new version and the silver guitar! Not used to seeing Brian without the Red Special!
NEXT? The 2012 collaborations...Queen (of sorts) with Von Lichten, and Brian with both Jon Tiven and UK pop/rap star Dappy.

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart
Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star
Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as a roaring tide
So there's no need to hide
Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
When you're born free
Born free oooh
Oooh, no man should choose your life for you
No man has the right to say you'll live or die today
Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
When you are free
Born free
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart
Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star
Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as a roaring tide
