NG - He cut it around the time of News Of The World. As of June 1977 at Earls Court he still had long hair. By the time of November for the We Are The Champions video shoot it was...while not short, it was much shorter than it had been...

Another OT question...

1. Did Freddie ever wear a headset in any live performances?

2. Did he ever get rid of that broken microphone stand? I remembered he also wanted to use it as a prop.

3. Did he use it while touring outside of UK or just in UK?

4. When did he start using just a regular microphone (not attached to that stand)?

If I remember correctly he was still using #2 when they performed at Live Aid in 1985, yes?

1. Not to my knowledge.

2. Nope. He used it from the beginning of his career to the end of his career with only a few occasional times of straying - Japan 1982 comes to mind.

3. He used it everywhere!

4. The first time I really remember was in Japan in 1982, but it was never really documented anywhere why he did so.

Live Aid was with the famous stand yes :D I remember when I was younger I broke a mic stand for that same reason

- Released on June 22nd, 1979. It hit #16 in the US. It hit #3 in the UK. It hit #9 in Japan. It hit #10 in the Netherlands.

- It sold in the area of 5-6 million copies.

- The band in general was not thrilled with the result as it was too patched together for them - Roger specifically voiced his dislike although over the years this has remained a favorite of the fans - possibly as it is the only 70s release that was officially available.

Patched together:
What Roger meant is that the songs were taken from various concerts but even more so, some singular songs were spliced together from as many as five different concerts! They would take bits of songs from a concert and join them on to bits from other shows. The result is seamless though. The best research I have ever seen is from www.queenlive.ca/ I did not go to such detail so I will lift his analysis and place it here:

OT....

Talon, thank you for providing that ISO file for London 2. Finally completed the 7.5G torrent download. Whew! It only took 4 days :D However, it is worth it...fantastic video and audio. Now the next step is loading it in a dual layer DVD format to see the entire concert continuously instead of by chapters. Will probably do it this weekend. Thank you again.

Freddie was approached by friends in the Royal Ballet to do a one-off charity gala and Freddie of course sprang into action. He knows he is not a ballet dancer and later said he could never do that and do the same choreographed dance moves every night. He performed then new single Crazy Little Thing Called Love even imploring the crowd to singalong even though it was just released. Roger supported his friend by attending even though he later said it's not his thing but he applauded his friends bravery.

After releasing Crazy Little Thing Called Love the band wanted to change up the dynamics of their tours and decided to do a "crazy" tour of many smaller venues they hadn't gone to in years. They were smaller venues designed for a more intimate show. It was highly successful and included one of the most famous concerts in their history. A December 26th performance at Hammersmith as part of the Concert For Kampuchea series of concerts organized by Paul McCartney.

I listened before I read your notation and I thought WTH... then I saw your note and thank God it was not what I thought was a disconnect between Freddie and the orchestra ;D

The Great Pretender bio showed a portion of FM's performance with the ballet and it was beautiful! He looked like he had been doing this with the group all the time and then he sang the ending of BR while in an upside down position... unbelievable! :D

What is the Concert For Kampuchea? Were other Rock bands involved? Was this similar to Live Aids?

The Concert For Kampuchea was something like Live Aid, but done over the course of several days. It was a series of concerts so it's more the Concerts for Kampuchea. They took place from December 26-29 at the Hammersmith. Queen was the only band on their day (26th)
