I'm only on page 5, our company has left... I thought Gaga sounded gorgeous, even if her rendition was a bit on the sloooow side. Couldn't even hear Chris Martin; I've always thought his voice was kind of weak, but they sure could have balanced the sound better. And what's with the constant crouching and crawling around?? Meh. Bruno fine, Beyoncé okay (she nearly fell on her butt, yikes!). Overall, I wasn't impressed with the halftime show. I think it's better if they stick to one act...it's too short to try to cram in 3 acts and do any of them justice.
As a Patriots fan, I guess I'm glad the Broncos won, so the Pats lost to the best team. A little more relaxing to watch when you don't really care about the outcome.

I absolutely agree with you. For those who can read music, here is something I think I got from Holst originally.
Y'know what kind of bugs me about Gaga and the anthem?? It's the fact that some people are STILL surprised that she is such a good singer. The same thing happened after she sang The Sound of Music last year. Why are so man people so surprised? It really shows that there is a belief out there that pop singers don't really have to be "good" singers. That they're allowed to be inferior as long as their popular. Sure, there is a wide range of vocal skill among the top pop singers (some not so good), but a number of them DO have very good voices. It just annoys me when someone says, "Wow! Gaga really CAN sing." Duh, of course she can. She's been doing it quite well for quite a while. Just getting this off my chest.
PS, just want to add that I am one of those who get weary of the unnecessary vocal gymnastics used by so many anthem singers. It gets kind of annoying and does the song no favors. It can drag the song out to an interminable length. Please, just sing it, sing it well, and let the game begin.
I have always wondered why, and when, it became the norm to have a 'star' sing the national anthem rather than the public....what is the point of that? To be honest, I never go to sporting events so I really do not know the norm in Canada any more...we used to sing O Canada at the start and God Save the Queen at the end of almost any public event but that died out years ago....I don't remember the last organized singing of the anthem...though I do remember the odd spontaneous outburst. Do Americans ever just bust out singing your own anthem? Do other countries also use celebrities rather than the people? Curious..... By the way...I thought she did a really good job...and less melismas than many others....

So, the Super Bowl ads included two Queen songs: Somebody to Love with the sheep and Another One Bites The Dust (one of the earlier ads of the evening). Wonder what Queen gets paid for the use of the songs? I'd love to see QAL perform at halftime. Lord knows their songs are used in sports arenas all the time. One commenter on the petition link said that he'd never want to see Queen perform on what he calls a lip-synched piece of crap, but I sure would love to see millions of viewers witness QAL for the first time and get a load of ADAM and his voice from heaven. I would think that if they ask Queen to perform in Halftime Superbowl with Adam, Brian and Roger will not agree to lyp-synched. It will ruin the Queen's brand of "dangerous". They love to play live show.

That red eye shadow on Lady gaga looked eerie. I think that may have been part of my dislike of the presentation of the National Anthem tonight - it was a production, part of the entertainment, with costume. Sorry all - being a straight-laced grump about this. Hope we get QAL next year for real entertainment. ETA: Mszue - I have never heard anyone spontaneously sing the N.A. - 1: it is impossible to sing, and 2: most people don't really know all the words. I think that's why God Bless America became so popular for awhile. Easier to sing.

I think the case of Gaga, yes she has a lot of hit songs, but I think most people knows her more because of her antiques rather than her ability to sing. That's why when she did the Sound of Music and NA, people really surprise.

After the 9/11 terrorist tragedy, all sporting events - games, etc. -- stopped for several weeks. When 'life was ready to return to normal', my DH and I prepared to go to a San Francisco Giants baseball game. I asked my son - who, at the time, worked for this organization - if, on this night when we began our heartbroken, terrorized journey back to 'normal' - if, for just this once, the National Anthem could be sung by the citizens; the ordinary people who dream of heroes, who try to be heroes, in everyday life. He listened to me. Our collective voice brought the most beautiful 'Star Spangled Banner' I've ever heard into the ballpark. I felt the vibration in the stands; I watched old men, with hands over their hearts, holding their ball caps, singing with tears in their eyes. I don't understand why we've made our National Anthem something to be listened to, instead of something to be proclaimed in song. I thought Gaga's rendition, today, was amazing. Even more amazing would have been the voices of 50,000 alongside her. If our children don't sing the song, how will they ever remember the words? or the question - does that star-spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
