Thank you all for your kind words. I am not sure about getting another but today was aufully lonely so maybe. I have had to say good-bye to a number of dogs over the years, and it is devastating. My heart goes out to you. I know some folks think they will never get another pet because of the pain of the loss. I am in the other group: I want to honor my lost dog by adopting another who desperately needs a home and love. Currently I have two rescued dogs who are now certified therapy dogs. We visit hospitals, schools, and assisted living facilities. To see a previously "unwanted" dog bring joy and smiles to so many people is special. I hope after a period of grieving, you can share your love with a new baby.

My remaining girl is almost 16 and was my first pet ever. As of now, I say no more because it was heartbreaking but I may change my mind about that someday.

The decision to invest into the adoption of a new pet is personal. We had serial dogs who were companions to each other. We thought we were down to one dog, at last, when our son adopted a rescue dog who unfortunately had separation anxiety. As in ripping up furniture, leaping out of screened windows, and so on. We now have son's rescue dog who is happy living with our dog. Except for fireworks and thunderstorms. We lost a cat to heart failure in October. My husband went out to get two kittens in November with our granddaughter. (Also rescues.)
It's sad to lose a pet. A companion who reacted to you, and you never know what may be the next challenge if you look at another.

Fostering is a great option for anyone who is not ready or able to commit to an adoption. Very rewarding. I’m sitting here now with four 10 week old kittens in my lap. Have had them since they were about a week old, later this week they will be spayed and neutered and ready to go off to their forever homes. Four lives saved!

He is SO charming and fun with these kids! Where and when was this. Doesn't look all that old. I must have been in a coma that week. LOL LOVE that little story about singing in his mom's jacket with the shoulder pads and Neil waving the "strobe." Our little star.
