Haha, we're going to be talking about "the speech" until the day Adam retires from QAL (or stops doing it).
I have really mixed feelings about that damn speech. On the one hand, I can see the point of those who say that the Queen fans warm up to him after it, that it makes him humble, etc. But on the other hand, it's kind of condescending of the Queen fans to basically make him acknowledge his "proper" place with the group (don't get too uppity), before they give him a chance. He doesn't owe anybody anything. He was chosen by Roger and Brian themselves. He didn't forcefully insert himself into the group, they wanted him there because of his unique and absolute talent.
So yeah, mixed feelings. It would be interesting to hear Adam's take on it, to see if it's his idea to keep doing it or not. But I don't know if he would ever say anything beyond his spiel of "it's such an honor".

I posted this at the end of yesterday's thread so the conversation continues so I'm bringing it over, lol. To me it is not a matter of fans hearing the speech more than newbies. But Adam has EARNED the right to OWN his place in the band. Anyone who thinks he does not belong can always tell Brian and Roger to replace him. But Adam does not need to apologize to anyone for being there instead of Freddie. I don't even think most newbies are expecting him to make them feel better before they can enjoy the show. Most of these people are adults. They understand that Freddie is long gone. "A few casual fans who like the speech is not evidence that it needs to stay, imo. More have said it needs to go. He is putting himself down to please a few and some in the media agree with him and run with it. Adam has been fronting Queen for 8 years. It does not take a speech to convince people that he is not Freddie nor thinks he is. Roger said it best, if you come to the concert you will not see Freddie. He is dead. And why does Adam need to show so much humility? He is not trashing Freddie or saying he is better. He is singing and performing and fronting Queen because Freddie has not been there for 26 years. It is a Queen and Adam Lambert concert. How hard is that to get? But Adam seems to need it for some reason. So I guess it will stay as long as he feels he needs it to get the audience to accept him. "

Oops, sorry, Lurleene...I started the new thread this morning, and apparently forgot to finish the thread last night.
At least we agree lol.

I think Adam will probably continue to do some version of "the speech" - it has evolved over time and may continue to evolve. But I think Brian, Roger and Adam like to acknowledge Freddie and his contributions to the band, and will continue to do so. I do like the changes Adam has made, less "apologetic" and more "let's celebrate his legacy."
I don't care much about what diehard Queen fans want or think, but I think the speech is appreciated by the casual fan, as my brother and a bunch of friends I brought to San Jose confirmed to me.
