This article got the timeline right about when Robbie was asked.. When it came to accepted the Queen frontman job, Robbie and Adam came form totally different places. Robbie was an huge, established superstar. Adam was a new, rising talent with a long way to go. Robbie seemed to know it wasn't quite right job for him to accept. He said he felt a bit scared. Adam, with the future still ahead of him, was not going to turn the job of a lifetime. And if he was a bit 'skeered," he plowed through it. All to the best for everyone involved. LOVE Robbie's praise for Adam, both as a singer and as a person.

Too bad about the Paris show and many shows by many artists. It's a difficult time for sure. Hang on to those tickets! Hope Adam's Las Vegas shows will happen.

He was filling stadiums all by himself. Why should he change that? And as I said before: I cannot imagine, that Brian and Roger wanted more than a short collaboration. Robbie would have completely overshadowed Queen.

I suspect this story about Robbie and Queen is another game of telephone. I don't think Brian and Roger went to Robbie and said, "Hey, man, we want you to be the new Queen frontman. Will you do it, please?" More like, "Hey, that gig was fun! We should do something more together. What do you think?" Just floating around an idea, but it didn't go anywhere.
My impression from things Brian has said is that he and Roger were never actively looking for a new frontman, thinking Queen days were over. It was only after a chance collaboration with an artist that the idea was brought up tentatively. With Adam, I think he was so extraordinary and such a good fit when they met that Brian and Roger couldn't help but start imagining working together. But, they did not consider world wide tours immediately. They have all said it evolved and developed organically.
I also thought that Robbie was joking when he said he didn't want to share the cash with the other band members. Certainly he wouldn't be so crass as to say that seriously, would he?

I also thought that Robbie was joking when he said he didn't want to share the cash with the other band members. Certainly he wouldn't be so crass as to say that seriously, would he? I think Robbie would say that. In a joking tone, but he would mean it. And why not? It’s the truth. Robbie was (and still is) able to fill Wembley more than once in a row all by himself. In 2003 he played 3 days in a row in front of 125.000 people in Knebworth. Why on earth should Robbie take the task of stepping into Freddie’s shoes, when he was considered the greatest entertainer of his time himself? He could only lose, because he knew his voice wasn’t up to the task. And yes: Robbie‘s ego had been (or correctly: had appeared to be) huge. He was an absolute mega star. He had it all and lived the life of sex, drugs and rock‘n‘roll. Alcohol had almost killed him. He has come to his senses after becoming a family man and sober, but there were times, when Robbie tended to behave like a huge asshole. And yes: I think your description of how the conversation between Brian, Roger and Robbie went sounds pretty realistic. That’s how I imagined it as well. Even if it doesn’t sound like it: I do like Robbie. 😁 But I didn’t always, although one of my best friends has been a mega fan since forever.

I am so confused about Robbie's appeal. I have a small collection of Robbies hits...I like him a lot. I LOVE Adam but I really like lots of music!

I just don't get his appeal, I've watched some of his videos. But I also don't get the appeal of Paul McCartney and Andrea Boccelli...doesn't mean they're not talented. That's why there are about a million different music genres...a genre for everybody's taste buds.
