A couple of months ago, I was truly worried that I would need to close the daily news threads for a while because it was so hard not to talk about the U.S. Presidential election. But I asked (a few time ) that we keep this a calm island in the big sea of {whatever} you call was going on in the USA. And, against all odds, you did it.
I think it will be impossible to not talk about politics today. So, political discussions are OK today.
No matter how things go today, please be respectful and kind. And please abide by all the ATop guidelines. It is OK if we disagree, as long as we are not disagreeable.

Personally, this election is very strange to me, in a good way. I grew up in Delaware and have known the Bidens since I was 12. Now, Delaware is a small place and it was much smaller when I was young. And knowing Joe is not really unusual. It seemed like everyone knew him. I once read that Joe Biden had met everyone in Delaware. It is a small state and he ran for office a number of times. I am not sure it is true but he sure seems like he knows everyone, everywhere in Delaware.
When I was growing up our families knew each other. Same church, schools, and University. My father was the State Treasurer and active in Delaware politics, and our families spent time together even though my father was a Republican and Joe Biden and all the Bidens were Democrats.
I knew Joe before he ran for his first political office, New Castle County, Delaware. When he first ran for the Senate, no one took him seriously, but he won. After he won his first Senate election in 1973, I recall people talking about how he might be President someday. My immediate thought was, there is no way the Joe could become President. He seemed average, normal, I mean seriously he was a middle-class kid from Delaware. He was like everyone else I knew. Presidents don't come from Delaware.
Although I write about how he seemed average, ordinary, there was always something that was not ordinary about the way he related to people and who he listens to people. And I swear he remembers everyone he has ever met. I had not seen him for 20+ years and saw him at an event a few years ago, and he recognized me instantly. I am still amazed.
I don't know who will win, no one really does because this election is unique in many ways. But, if Joe wins, it will prove one more time that anything is possible.
A disclosure: Joe was my #2 choice this time; my #1 is still Mayor Pete but his time will come.
