LOL Isn't not caring wonderful? and liberating?
I started watching AI during season five and was incredibly (and naively) invested in Chris Daughtry. I was devastated when he was unceremoniously kicked off. My daughter, who has been watching since the first show, just laughed at me and said I would learn.
And I did learn - not to care so much and if someone is good it doesn't matter because they will be fine. Losing didn't hurt Daughtry and winning hasn't helped some of the winners all that much.
By the time I fell (hard) for Adam, all I prayed for was that he make the top three or four. There is no way that talent was not going to be grabbed up by a record company. I have never followed anyone the way Adam has kept me captivated for the last two years. I started lurking on MJs, found PF and have been following his life daily on Atop since Q3 opened this place for business.
Last year AI was an excruciating bore. There was no one I cared enough about to even download an itunes ditty to show support. You have to be LOOKING for boring, unenthusiastic singers to come up with that bunch though I must admit Crystal has some good songs. I love Mumford & Sons - I was a student in Boston at the end of folk music era and first husband was a musician. I love the folk genre and am so pleased to see it making a resurgence.
So this year the only singer I have a visceral dislike for is that little Alana (Alaina ?) girl. She just sort of creeped me out singing to ST that way - eewwww factor! And where are her parents? That costume (cleavage) was not age appropriate during the green mile episode. I know people think she is uber talented but I ain't buying what she is selling, not yet anyway.
I don't know if any of you ever visit the American Idol website - I find it a truly frightening place. Talk about invested fans..... It would be nice to have a place to talk about AI without fans wars!
Looking forward to tonight though female singers do nothing for me. Don't know why but 95% of the music I buy is male. Of course, I love Pink but she isn't all luv, I will luv you forever, you make my life worthwhile, I would die without you, don't leave, come back. Like a woman with a spine and a little FU in her attitude. Exception - Glitter In The Air - I would swear that one of Adam's lovers wrote the lyrics!

Adam's influence on this group: dressing up for the performance. So far, vocally, I'm not so impressed with the first 5 girls. OK but not outstanding... JMO

I felt sorry for Rachel. I don't think that she knew was out of tune,
I dreaded hearing Hero, but she did alright, Rodriguez that is.
So far no one is knocking it out the park.

I cannot believe all the praise they are throwing at the Rodrigues girl....I thought she was barely meh.....good grief. But the first few boys were nasty too. And I was/am really predisposed to liking Rachel. oh well

Lauren may have some potential. I like her voice.
On Karen again, I like those last hight note riff she did. Those notes were pure and crystal clear.
These ladies are not owning these songs. It's one half step from karoake.

Are Steven and Jennifer tone deaf? Maybe the sound in the room is different than what we are hearing on TV, Ashton was off for nost of the song.

i thought PIA was the best and THIA. LAUREN A will definitely get voted through. i have no idea about the 2 other slots...
maybe NAIMA because she seems to have fans. and... ah i give up. the girls were overall meh. the guys on the whole were way more entertaining.

Well, I tried to watch it tonight. Recorded it so that I could fast forward thru singers who I didn't like after the first 16 bars. But, even fast forwarding, I couldn't make myself watch the whole thing. Got thru 5 and then checked here to see what incredible performances I should fast forward to. I'm not seeing anyone blown away on this thread.
Frankly, I was bored. True, no one was cringingly bad -- which I can't take. But, there are just so many female pop singers and pop divas on the scene these days, we don't need any more. There was nothing here that was new or exciting. It may be that I am thoroughly jaded by this time. I know how the producers manipulate the back stories, manipulate the kids, manipulate the results. I don't believe the best vocalist wins. Tonight was just one lounge singer after another. Sorry. Won't be watching much. Please let me know if there is someone in particular worth checking out.

After watching all the ladies, It was all just meh. I didn't see anyone that made me perk up and imagine them recording an album that I would like to hear.
I agree with you Cassie, it was all just lounge singer, high school auditorium performances. I did see some potential in Lauren T and Naima as far as personality. Thia sang well, but that was so disney. I thought Lauren A gave her worst performance of the season so far. I don't know why Pia got a standing ovation. Her performance was fine technically, but it didn't move me.
The ladies did not inspire me to want to watch more of Idol this year. Steven and JLo live almost everything. Randy is all over the place. I beginning to think that idol doesn't have a clue about selecting a commercially relevant artist.
I wonder what America thought.
