You can see from The Voice how challenging the music industry is... you can see aspirants who already had a modicum of success, more than what Adam had before his Idol stint... now struggling to create something for themselves through The Voice...
Well life is the same...
Even when you've become successful you need to constantly reinvent yourself to replicate your successes ...
UNWAVERING
I love your art.

I found the video where Nile Rodgers was featured very interesting. What he said must be listened in the context. It was a live discussion at 'Advertising week' on advertising, brands and music. Most of the time he spoke about brands, how they are created over time by finding a signature style and message for the artist and how he tries to attract new audiences by combining elements in a new way and on many levels (in songwriting and producing) the goal being to induce an emotional response. His way of doing it is usually horisontal team work, for a song building it from start to finish, for a career planning to reach new heights. Different in Adam's case was that his job was much more limited, only a guitar part for an existing song described as vertical involvement which he still approached as a team effort and tried to enhance the funk in the song. In view of what was discussed before he had to make a distinction that it was not an example of building a brand. Involving Adam in this discussion was a sidestep from the topic on host's part which threw Nile a little out of balance and on sidetrack. I think he was being honest and real, maybe wondering should he talk about Idol concept/brand or developing Adam's brand/career which was not the case. It sounded like he was uncomfortable with the show or brands-out-of-a-show (voting out, short span) and decided to get back on track: how his job in this case was done (enhancement) and his reasons for doing it (funk(y) song, knowledge and appreciation of Sam's work). * I understood he was there to talk about HIS work. He did not actually praise any artist other than Sam which he did because Sam's first album was his reference point to the job (guitar on Shady). (I could make an assumption that he was not that familiar with Adam's work.) Of course it would have been nice to hear him singing Adam's praises - but other artists were not the focus here. In my opinion, this does not diminish in any way his earlier gushing how their working together (Adam being present in the studio) was enjoyable and the song was sick. * I forgot to mention that he was also apprehensive about this job it being 'vertical' where it might be cut etc and his idea might be lost but happy that it did not happen. Thank you for adding perspective to this issue, for doing it so well and for taking the time. My quick take (prefer your longer one) is that they were interviewing a "giant" in his field (Niles) about a specific topic. I think the fact that they brought up Adam so early in the interview was amazing and I totally agree that the question threw Niles off a little in the context of the discussion. Not a linear thinker, IMHO. :twist: One more thing, I think the premature news of TP's death has been greatly exaggerated. 8-)

Thank you, Q3, for that summary. I was reading the comments and experiencing a WTF moment because it seemed as if some people were already giving up on Trespassing being successful. I was thinking, has it even officially gone for adds yet? And doesn't it usually take songs several months to climb the charts? You answered those questions and I appreciate it. Premature doom and gloom doesn't do us any good!

I was thinking, has it even officially gone for adds yet? And doesn't it usually take songs several months to climb the charts? You answered those questions and I appreciate it. Premature doom and gloom doesn't do us any good! Well, since I was in that doom and gloom conversation... I can't talk on behalf of the rest of the people, but I wasn't trying to be all doom and gloom. That was far from my intention, so if I contributed to that feeling I apologize. I don't think Trespassing won't be succesful, and I'm definitely not giving up on this single. On the contrary, I'm fully prepared to support it as hard as I can from Spain. But I wanted to understand how this radio thing worked and what is it that fans can do to help. Q3 explained it perfectly, so now I know what to expect... and what to think when fans are complaining about lack of attention from the radio. It's easy to become alarmed when you're reading some sort of comments, if you don't have the knowledge to distinguish between an exaggeration and the truth.
