Well, I've decided this is the year I will re-lose the weight I gained over the past 6-7 years. I have had weight issues all my adult life, and successfully lost a bunch and kept it off for a long time...then it crept back.Sigh. I'm glad you guys will all help me out with this because I will need support and motivation. I know HOW to lose the weight, I just need TO lose the weight. My goal is to lose at least 50 lbs this year (yes, 50) at least. I plan on doing this by eating a mostly vegetarian low-fat diet and exercising on a regular basis. It's worked before, and I felt much better. I've been motivated in part by age and in part by how healthy Adam looks by eating better. I have eaten very much like he does, and it really does give you lots more energy. So, here goes...new year and time to get to work! Wish me luck! Also, I could use any low-fat (especially vegetable) recipes you might wish to share -- I realized when I ate a mostly vegan diet that I don't like vegetables as much as I thought I did. I love fruit, though. My weakness is bread and anything that resembles bread, or pasta, or bread, or pasta (you get the idea!). I also believe ice cream to be one of God's perfect foods, so I will be switching to low-fat frozen yogurt for my occasional fix. I should see what my store has in the frozen yogurt department too. I like to throw some jam on vanilla ice cream for flavor. I guess I need to check out the calories. Like you veggies are iffy for me but I do try to do more of the orange ones like squash because at least I can make them sweet. Yeah, you can tell this losing weight is not something I'm great out.

Hi ! I am in again this year Going for another 20 lbs over the 10 weeks ! Last year I lost 32 lbs with our extended "trespassing" goal and summer. Then my husband passed suddenly from a stroke, in June. Since late summer, I have gained back 5 lbs, because I haven't taken the time to eat as healthy as I should. And, lots of "comfort" food eating, too. But, I want to get back to the higher energy levels I had last spring eating healthy and exercising Also, hoping to drop another size. Good Luck Everyone !! So sorry about your husband :-/ . You did great last year. I want to lose at least one dress too. Sometimes that's an even better measurement than weight.

Well I guess the time has come, as the Walrus said.....sigh....I have been avoiding the whole issue of dieting....again....but if I am ever to wear my jeans again, it needs to be done. So...that is my goal...at least one dress size and my largest jeans. Anything else is a bonus but the long term goal is to lose more than that. I need to get much more healthy. I suppose I need to do some exercising too....awwww geeezzz...and eat salads! bleh ... sigh

Sunday - Hand Weights - Whether you have store bought or bottles of water or other objects from around the house, hand weights are important for your exercise routine. For our hunched over keyboard posture this is what they had me do in therapy. Bent Over Fly --this is the only one I found that had the split leg position I was taught which I think is better for your back. This helps strengthen your shoulders and helps pull them back into position.

Monday - Walking Usually my two pooches talk me into this and sometimes I can get/force my son to come along too. I don't know how many of you might be into running, I know some of our youngsters from Finland last year did. Walking is about the fastest I can go. Things to think about while walking. Don't limp. If you have a bad knee go the speed that you can without limping. If you limp you will create an injury elsewhere. I practice my strut which seems to help my hips, don't jar, jar, jar as you step, instead swing thru your hips and keep your shoulders up and back. ETA: chapf, we need to get you lighter weights. Well Jablea, you pulled me back in with that PM. I have gained everything I lost last year, but I will try again. I think one of my meds is working against me because I am really careful about what I feed myself and my husband. He lost 18 pounds last year and hasn't had any trouble keeping it off because we are still keeping calories down. Absolutely no desserts except Activia yogurt to keep us regular. Me, on the other hand, I gained everything back but have not gone over that. I just can't seem to lose it again. I will try but I think the only thing I can do is watch my portions carefully, and make sure I don't go over 1/2 cup of anything. If I eat bread, I make sure it is gluten free but even that hasn't helped. We eat white potatoes very rarely and are sticking with sweet potatoes instead. Lots of veggies and I eat only 3-4 ozs. of meat and my husband has 5-6 oz. of meat. Exercise is what I don't do and that may be why I hang on to this weight. I do have trouble with my hip so I really am not that active. However, I will drag out my walking tape and try it one more time to see if that makes a difference. Good luck everyone. Everything worked so well for you last year, sadz it's not now. Does sound like it could be meds or thyroid. I looked up Dr. Oz's info of eating right for your metabolism type but not much info there from anyone who has tried it. I'll keep posting exercises that can hopefully be done without a lot of lower body stress. ETA: I did find a link to a plan the OZ folks are trying this year. www.doctoroz.com/videos/chris-powells-miracle-meal-plan

Jablea - I just love your enthusiasm! You're such a great cheerleader to keep us motivated with all your posts! I still have leftover food from the holidays that I just can't bear to throw out. So I'm still eating crap right now. But I did go for a walk yesterday so that's a start! This morning I saw a tweet from Armistead Maupin (Tales of the City author - if you haven't read it, you MUST read it!) about this miracle weight loss pill called Power Slim. My cynical side tells me he's probably being paid to promote the product, but I researched it anyway. Mostly positive reviews but always a few folks claiming it's a scam. Anyone know anything about this? Has anyone tried it?
I think we're all looking for that miracle pill that will automatically take the weight off. Hasn't been found yet, but I still keep looking! :
