Hi ginger, thanks. It's fun! The closest thing I've seen to a miracle drug is metformin which is the most common prescription for diabetes. Both hubby and my dad lost about 20 pounds each without trying. Since the weight loss didn't seem to continue with further usage then the effect either wears off or it's just correcting an imbalance besides the sugar.
I'll look up Power Slim and see what it's all about.

Tuesday - Exercise MatIf you don't have one, get one. It's amazing what a half inch of foam rubber can do for your willingness to get down and dirty. Have I mentioned that you only have one day to fast now before our first check in on Wednesday?

OK...I can't believe nobody listed this way to keep greens....it is simple and effective. When you bring the lettuce home.. rinse under cold water and shake excess off. Lay out double layer of paper towels, enough to encircle the lettuce. The paper towels will end up damp but not dripping. Slide whole package into a bag but do not tie tightly...put in the crisper and your lettuce will stay fresh and crisp for quite some time....2 or 3 weeks at least...often longer, especially Romaine. The moisture in the paper towel keeps lettuce crisp but does not let it go limp as it does if left open, or rot if put in tight bag. I have been doing this for years....:-)
eta...the best bags are actually those really light weight ones so common in produce aisles

mszue, thank you for the lettuce tips. I have found that works well with other greens too like radishes and cilantro. They still don't last as long as lettuce, but it prolongs their life. My big goal this year is to try to eat a little healthier. My new workplace has a partnership with a farm, where you can sign up to get a box of fresh seasonal produce. The first one comes tomorrow. The produce at my local grocery sucks so I figure this will taste a lot better and be an incentive to try new dishes so as to use up the produce and get my money's worth. This week I am supposed to get some or all of the following: lettuce, broccoli, swiss chard, turnips , spinach, red russian kale ;D, cucumbers, mustard greens, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes. If anyone has any favorite recipes, let me know. Are we posting recipes in this thread? I have a great one for broccoli salad that everyone loves, and could post it. The other thing I want to do is eliminate some of my reliance on packaged breakfast cereal in the morning and bread (sandwiches) at lunch. One thing I don't know how I'm going to do is reduce dairy and dessert because I love them both. I especially love lattes. Eventually I want to work in more exercise. I used to walk about a mile and a half everyday. This was a lifelong routine. So while I wasn't any hardbody, I was reasonably fit. In 2009, we had to take in my dad's elderly dog, and I found that I simply didn't have time to still give her a walk (a short distance which takes an eternity) and still get in my own walk. I still get it in about three times a week, and also go to aerobics twice a week. A lady in my neighborhood is starting an outdoor yoga class on Sundays and I want to try that when the weather warms up a little. In the summer I like to swim. I never dreamed the dog would live so long; she is now 17. I am thinking she may pass away pretty soon. That will be sad of course but I do look forward to taking up my old exercise routine at that time. If I am to be honest, I also look forward to being free of the emotional obligation of caring for her; it's the strangest thing but we have just never bonded, it's like we're roommates. This has never happened to me with any other pet. :-[

checking in... down 1 lb, 9 to go!
here's a delicious smoothie that I make often (I don't measure anything but the milk so these are approximate):
1 C almond milk (unsweetened, vanilla flavored = 40 calories) ~1/3 C oatmeal ~ 1/4 C frozen wild blueberries (the small kind) 1 ripe banana ~ 1/8 C chopped walnuts optional addition: spoonful of vanilla protein powder

Checking in!!!
Down 3 lbs with 7 to go.
Unfortunately, those 3 pounds were gained over the holidays and came off pretty easily. The rest will be hard. Back to exercising again, too, so that helps.
I also use the Unsweetened almond milk - vanilla. I think the refrigerated one from Trader Joe's the best. You can cook with it, too. Flowergirl's smoothie sound interesting. Is the oatmeal uncooked?
Smoothie
1.5 c unsweetened almond milk 1 egg 1 cup frozen blueberries or strawberries couple chunks frozen banana Stevia to taste

I was excited because when I got up at 3 am I was down 2 pounds, 4 hours of more sleeping and I'd only lost 1. So I'm blaming it on gravity fluctuations. Makes me almost want to buy a new fangled scale that has ounces but good lord I don't think I could handle obsessing over an ounce. My old full pounds only one will have to do.
Smoothie - ok but need better
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt 1/2 cup milk 1 cup strawberries & blackberries 1/2+ tsp almond extract 1 tblsp honey handful kale
