I don't know, I just like the way Adam shapes his life, carieer, himself. This is already exciting story, and I think now about his future biograpy or(if we're lucky)autobiography and how interesting and big this AMA's chapter probably will be. Our disscusions 5 years later are the proof how significant it is for many reasons. Adam on AMA's was bold, desperate and crazy - and there were consequences, because every important event in our life have consequences, good and bad. And I love Adam more with AMA's in his biography, than without it.

How do I know the AMAs propelled Adam into the international consciousness? Easy!! The "stupid American TV & USA media" got bad press all over the world for his performance being edited & his GMA cancellations! If the talk had not been about Adam the next day, it would have been about Lady Gaga burning a piano! And Glitter is right! WWFM did go on, almost immediately, to sell one million copies (now 2 million) his album premiered at #3 with almost 200K in sales! He went on to do a sold out tour worldwide. Ooooo, almost forgot the Grammy nomination! Nothing there sounds stalled to me at all. The only stalling I have seen in the past 5 years was 2012-2013 with RCA's mishandling of introducing Adam's era #2 with botched single choices.

I understand that it is tempting to blame the media for all the Gay forward stuff but let's be honest here. Fantasy Springs was a media issue? AMA crotch etc stuff? Fellating his mic at pretty much every GNT concert? Kissing Tommy? Massive make-up? We love[d] it all and lapped it up but to say it is the press that put the Gay front and centre seems just a little disingenuous to me. He mad the choice and we supported him. But I also believe it definitely impacted his fame trajectory.....just as he impacted, for the good IMHO, the culture of gay acceptance in the US particularly. I suspect he would have had the radio play etc much faster if he had approached them like he is doing now...not hiding the gay, jus not rubbing it in their faces. This is not a right or wrong issue for me, in my opinion, so PLEASE if you disagree with me, cool, but do not take my above statement and tweak it to suit. I love the man, as we all do here, and I love his femininity as much as his masculinity. And history will almost surely treat him well, perhaps even as heroic. That does not change the fact that his road would have been a faster and easier one if he had moderated his appearance and behaviour just a little. And we know he can do that, and is not morally averse to doing it because he is doing it now. It is also now, that he seems to be finally getting attention for stuff other than being gay....coincidence? I doubt it..... First of all I can't really see how the concerts like FS or GNT had anything to do with public opinion at large that jomama is talking about. These are concerts for fans, not to mention that the GNT "antics" were his reaction to fans LOVING them. The more public went crazy the more he went for it. He is on stage to PLEASE US - he said it many times... Now, "massive make up" - this confuses me.. He shouldn't have been himself trough out the AI run? That would've been tragic IMO, but again, I don't really understand you here... jomama, Adam explained he felt he had to "upstage" previous performers, including the well accepted Gaga's smashing of Whiskey(?) bottles over her piano (THAT was OK for children to see of course). He came up with that kiss! It was f*ing BEAUTIFUL!!!! "international star": actually the world wide round of news coverage was caused not so much by the performance but by the US media REACTION to it, the GMA cancellation, etc... The way it was covered was mostly in a way of "look at the backwards US media...". But whatever the reason it did put Adam's name on the huge international stage...thank god! in any case, I think Adam got himself written into the music history books, social change history books, American culture history books....IMO it was a stroke of genius - in the long term especially... haha... I see us talking about the AMAs ten years from now...saying the same words... I specifically asked to PLEASE not be taken out of context. I clearly was addressing the comment that the GAY GAY GAY thing was all the media's doing and I then gave examples of it being Adam's choice to put the GAY forward...... re the "massive makeup"...really?...sparkle glitter, bindi's to the max are pretty 'massive' by most people's standards and you would be hard pressed to find a straight man today that would wear that unless he was acting the part of a gay or trans or drag person...or ridiculing/mocking as female....it just is not your average straight appearance. Surely that is not a challenging statement. I love the massive makeup. I think he looked gorgeous at Fantasy Springs 1....but he sure did not look straight...lol, and he knew it. He was putting it front and forward and to those that do not like that, it would feel like rubbing it in their faces. But hey...when I see a guy covered in grime, with a baseball hat and facial scruff, climb out of a huge pickup riding 4 feet off the ground on giant tires, I am almost nauseated at the flagrant display of testosterone....may turn some on but gives me the heebie jeebies lol....to each his or her own....but the macho guy knows what he is doing, and so did/does Adam.

Gene Simmons ego could power the planet. I made the mistake of reading "KISS and Make-Up" by Gene Simmons and wished I had some brain bleach afterwards. As for Queen not being considered rock that unfortunately is not a Simmons only opinion. I clearly remember in high school in the late 70's that there were definitely factions within rock fans for whom Queen was not "real rock". Lots of the KISS, Aerosmith, and Van Halen fans sneered at Queen. Of course there were also many who thought KISS were absolute crap from a musical standpoint although they were considered a great party band. In many ways KISS and Queen were both outliers with the rock "music snobs" turning their noses up at both of them but for different reasons. Queen were generally considered hugely talented but "not rock" and KISS were seen as crap music but great party entertainment. A friend of mine in high school actually called KISS the "Bay City Rollers" of hard rock. Interesting about Queen not being considered rock by some. I wonder if there are people who don't consider the Beatles to be rock. They were pretty eclectic as they progressed.
