I'm wondering if the original idea was to slip into a a R&R dream sequence in the middle of the performance, then back again. Hence the costumes. But I agree - I liked it the way it was. The costumes were a bit OTT corny. I think the intent was probably to be corny though. It is Glee, after all! Could be it was part of a storyline that got changed? Either way, I am sad we didn't see any of it! But that full length photo might get me over my temporary grief! You're right of course. Glee & corny are not strangers to each other. And that full-length photo was...interesting! Nothing we haven't seen before lol.

“That’s going to be a career killer. I think it’s going to be over before it’s begun and it’s unfortunate because the kid’s got the pipes. There’s no questions. He should really shut up. No one cares what you do behind closed doors anyway. And if you’re putting that front and center, you’re forcing us to deal with it and it’s going to be a turnoff for the masses.” Gene Simmons believes. Adam should focus exclusively on his music right now and forget everything else, Simmons says, because that’s what fans care about exclusively. Arguably, fans would beg to differ, as they’ve shown the American Idol runner-up their most sincere support for his decision to come out publicly." I know this is going to be an unpopular comment on this board, but I have to say that Gene is right in this comment above. This is exactly what happened at the AMA's. I think Adam was okay until the AMA's and would have gone on to be the very successful pop artist that he wanted more than anything, but the AMA's happened and halted that momentum in it's tracks because he did exactly what Gene said above. He put the focus on him being gay. He put that front and center instead of focusing exclusively on his music and his voice and it was a turnoff for the masses just like Gene said. Also, I disagree with Fernandez saying it has helped Adam. I really don't understand why he thinks that. I live in the deep south and I guarantee you that there are a lot of people who want nothing to do with Adam just because he is gay. It doesn't matter how talented he is or how good looking his is. All they can see is the gay. Now granted, most people here in the south are religious too and see it as a sin, but that is also most of the country too since most of the country is religious is some way and follows the teaching of the bible. I do think Adam has gotten farther than most gay guys would since he is so ridiculously talented and good looking, but to say it has helped him to be an out gay artist is simply not true, IMHO. I do think the time is coming when coming out of the closet will seem stupid just like how stupid it looks now that we had separate bathrooms and drinking fountains for black people, but that time is still a ways away because the country has gone backwards in some ways with the christian fundamentalist push to fight evolution. I do see Adam has having found success against all odds, but he still hasn't achieved the pop star status that he wanted. That could change though because Adam doesn't seem to feel the need to put his sexuality front and center anymore. He has matured and become more grounded and is concentrating his efforts on putting his voice front and center like he did at the IHeart festival. That went a long way toward cementing Adam as a vocal powerhouse and articles are now referring to him as just that rather than the "openly gay artist". Also, the AMA's are now a fleeting memory for most people and Adam has a chance to start fresh with a new album and a new persona as the "best singer I know". well... the thing is that it wasn't adam who focused on the "gay" issue but the MEDIA. RELENTLESSLY. THEY HOUNDED ADAM. AMA was merely a REACTION to the media circus around the issue. SO, saying HE CHOSE to focus on it is just purely incorrect. Otherwise, yet again, I have to post the "AMA maid Adam into an INTERNATIONAL STAR instantly" - so it was a huge WIN! I understand the "bible belt" problems and I am happy to see Adam got lots of fans there!

Also, the AMA's are now a fleeting memory for most people and Adam has a chance to start fresh with a new album and a new persona as the "best singer I know". Personally, I agree that the AMA's put Adam on a DIFFERENT track than the one he might have been otherwise. And, in the long run, it may be a far better track. But I'll also agree that the AMA's (and maybe combined with the FYE cover) definitely shifted Adam's short-term momentum. But that AMA's performance, in my opinion, CHANGED HOW "GAY" WAS TALKED ABOUT in this country. And that may have had the most striking effect of all. People started openly talking about the unfairness of it all (particularly with the post AMA's ban). And I think it shifted how people thought, and over the past number of years people have been coming out who probably would not have done so without Adam (and that catalyst). As for the voice now front-and-center aspect: I think the "gay" has been so talked out with Adam that it isn't a news item any more. Its just accepted landscape. Ergo, the focus from everyone has gone back to the beginnings: the vocals. Particularly since all the built-up karma and long-term, high-caliber body of work has made Adam a respected, acknowledged presence and not a flash in the pan.

Didn't see it anywhere, but maybe I was looking in the wrong places. If anyone has come across a pure Gleek reaction to those photos, do post a link.

Also, where do people get the idea that the AMA's made Adam into an international star instantly. I've always wondered why people think this. I didn't follow all that closely back then so I'm ignorant on the subject.

I understand that it is tempting to blame the media for all the Gay forward stuff but let's be honest here. Fantasy Springs was a media issue? AMA crotch etc stuff? Fellating his mic at pretty much every GNT concert? Kissing Tommy? Massive make-up? We love[d] it all and lapped it up but to say it is the press that put the Gay front and centre seems just a little disingenuous to me. He mad the choice and we supported him. But I also believe it definitely impacted his fame trajectory.....just as he impacted, for the good IMHO, the culture of gay acceptance in the US particularly. I suspect he would have had the radio play etc much faster if he had approached them like he is doing now...not hiding the gay, jus not rubbing it in their faces. This is not a right or wrong issue for me, in my opinion, so PLEASE if you disagree with me, cool, but do not take my above statement and tweak it to suit. I love the man, as we all do here, and I love his femininity as much as his masculinity. And history will almost surely treat him well, perhaps even as heroic. That does not change the fact that his road would have been a faster and easier one if he had moderated his appearance and behaviour just a little. And we know he can do that, and is not morally averse to doing it because he is doing it now. It is also now, that he seems to be finally getting attention for stuff other than being gay....coincidence? I doubt it.....
