Living with a family is really not the best place to "diet". I have a picky eater kid and a plate cleaner hubby who likes to cook. I am exactly where I started the year. But then I shouldn't blame it on the family as my real problem is snaking. My mouth just wants something to do.

Snaking sounds scary!!! lol, well my spell check seems to think it's a thing. Actually I did have a pet snake for a summer as a kid of 6 or 7. It would wrap around my wrist like a bracelet, grandparents wouldn't let me in the front door when i went to visit. Now, I've got garden snakes out in the yard usually although I haven't seen one for awhile. Maybe that's why I have so many mice this year.

No change for me this week but I guess that's almost progress considering how things have been going. LOL

Maybe I'll post a halfway thru the year reminder on the main thread. My reunion over the weekend did me in and the gain was like delayed a day after I scarfed everything down. Back on salads for lunch and chewing gum like a mad lady.
I know about those knees. I do my series of exercises, gleaned from several stints with the rehab doctors, almost every night and it really does help.

Hello Losers! Well hopefully we are all losers! I haven't been on this thread for a couple of years, I guess I wasn't really committed to losing back then because my weight just kept slowly creeping up. I've had some life-changing events in the last year, and decided it was finally time. It is true that you can't lose weight until your brain decides you are ready! I've lost 33 pounds this year, 24 of those since mid-April. I still have another 20 or so to go. Several factors have led to my success: 1. I have changed my diet pretty radically, moving toward a mostly plant-based diet. Not completely, but I've gotten past the idea that every lunch and dinner has to have some kind of meat. So I may have meat (beef, chicken, or fish) once or twice a week, and then a smaller portion. 2. I'm walking 3 to 5 miles almost every day. And when I say walking, I don't mean strolling. I put on Adam's TOH and really MOVE. At age 75 (well, almost ... later this month!) really moving is probably just a moderate walk to some of you! And my Apple Watch motivates me to fill in that activity target every day! Before I started serious walking (last April) I couldn't walk to my mailbox (a short block away) without getting out of breath. Now I'm walking miles with ease! It seems impossible at the start, but our bodies react amazingly to consistent exercise. 3. I'm taking ballroom dance lessons two or three times a week. It doesn't get my heart rate up like walking to Adam's TOH, but it does work up a sweat and is really fun! 4. I have three friends I am dieting with. We eat together often, experimenting with plant-based recipes. And one of the four of us (not me!) likes to cook, so I often feel like I have a personal chef working with me! Part of our motivation is a planned trip to Italy in October, we all wanted to be fit enough to get around and enjoy it. We have each lost over 30 pounds, our one male member (the chef!) has lost over 50 pounds. His doctor has taken him off all his medications, including BP meds, his blood sugar levels have settled down below 100 without medication, and his joint pains have literally disappeared! Time for me to get out walking before the day heats up!

Karen, what great news. Congrats! It's so great that you have friends that can support you and are in the same mind set.

Having a walking buddy really helped me when I was starting out.
