The funny thing about Adam on Idol is I (a grown woman at the time but a product of my time where it wasn't discussed and one could be naive) didn't even think about whether Adam was gay or not. Just didn't occur to me!

Just didn't occur to me! That is funny. For me, it was hard not to know he was gay because of all the hoopla, lol. But it had nothing to do with what Adam did or said. It was discussed on Fox, CNN, Entertainment Weekly, and in press publications and the comment sections. Even former contestants and fans of others were talking about him and his sexuality. Some were jealous because of all the attention he was getting for his vocals and stage presence and they wanted to make sure everyone knew. And it really got ugly with the homophobic insults when he did Ring of Fire on country night. To me, it was just a sexy and rock and roll performance but others were clutching their pearls. Then Gokey's pastor was encouraging Christians to vote for Kris and not to vote for the gay non-Christian in the finals. Ugh. Horrible. And that was all before Adam lost and the real meltdown ensued from the media and glee from others. Of course that glee quickly turned to anger and cries of favoritism when Adam out performed the winner in attention, opportunities, press interest and success. But he was not the winner some screamed. No sh**. HA. Darn Good Times.

The funny thing about Adam on Idol is I (a grown woman at the time but a product of my time where it wasn't discussed and one could be naive) didn't even think about whether Adam was gay or not. Just didn't occur to me! Same with me! Hard to believe nowadays with social media and all, but all we did back then was watch Adam on Idol and vote for him every week. We were completely unaware of the "drama" and gossip behind the scenes, as somehow we missed whatever was discussed on various tv shows. We still had the kids at home and life was pretty busy. As far as I remember, my husband asked me about halfway through the show if I thought that Adam was gay. It had not crossed my mind til then lol, however my gaydar is extremely low in general. I can't remember how we even found out about the cover on EW, I think it was coincidental. Anyways, once the finale was done, I became curious and started googling Adam, and a whole new world opened up with the Zodiac show, Adam's "Crazy" at ArtsForLife, the Upright Cabaret etc. Eventually I connected with fan groups but I only joined Atop in 2014. @lurleene, as you mentioned "Ring of Fire"... That night I became a fan .

@lurleene sizzling63 Yup, I was not on the computer at all and didn't watch those kind of gossip shows. Also had teenagers at the time and was busy. Plus I was the only one who watched Idol. It wasn't until after the show was over and I was having Adam withdrawal that I thought to google him. Discovered MJs and some other fan sites, and then the precursor to Adamtopia and the rest is history! LOL. I guess Adam being gay wasn't a complete shock, but I just hadn't thought about it.

I'm really happy I was able to enjoy Adam's time on Idol and not know about all that drama. Every week, he wowed me! And he came across as such a nice person too. I genuinely felt sad when the show was over and I realized I wouldn't be seeing him every week on my television. Mind you, I thought he was destined for big things!
