All the talk about the videos reminded me of a pet peeve I have regarding Adam's expression:))) Performing BTIKM on Leno's Show was so exciting to me and I loved the ethereal paleness and solemnity of his face, but at one point he made that 'desperate' expression, which bothers me a bit, kind of ruins it for me a little. He does the same thing on WWFM and BTIKM videos. I think he magnificently pulls off hot&sexy&fierce, but when it comes to slow songs, I wish he remained solemn and dignified. So, speaking of Underneath, hopefully no crying, clutching his chest or making the desperate face. Underneath is such a serious, deeply emotional song that adding physical display of its content to a performance would diminish its pathos and push it into pathetic. Adam should serve as the finest possible medium between the song's strong message and the audience, and thus bringing on the inevitable catharsis. By coincidence or not, this is also the song which brings the word FREAK into the second era. ( WWFM did that in first) I have really strong feelings about that, the implication that anyone could think of Adam as one. Basically, I want to rip their heart out and feed them to it. But it also reminds me of the most famous song which uses the word, Radiohead's "Freak", and Thom Yorke manages to avoid pathetic in that video by remaining serious. Which is my point. I think Adam should perform and interpret that song whichever way he wants, it's his song. Don't quite get what you mean by "desperate expression". Hey Aleksandra , you kinda sound like Simon Cowell , you don't like "Broadway" Adam Well , for me , I really like Adam's acting skills , he's unique in that way, and that "desperate expression" you talk about , is actually what my cousin ( who was homophobic , and HATED Adam , but right now he's a Glambert , yay for me , I did it !!!! I turned him into a Glambert !!) Likes the most about Adam . So there are ppl who like it . But you are right about the difference between "Emotional and serious" and "Pathetic" , but what Adam does is , for me , incredible acting .

Some might say its Adam being theatrical - hamming it up as a stage player does to project it across a hall - but i wonder if it isnt just Adam He's big and intense. Look at the way he played Dark Adam in BTIKM It had a....melodramatic feel.

OMG -- say "Ma'am" to a Northerner and watch the indignation spew forth -- it is taught as a form or respect here in the South and causes great confusion when one is chastised for using it. Laughable how our cultural differences can be misinterpreted. That's news to me. I was born, raised and spent my life as a northerner and never heard that one. I just asked my co-workers and they laughed. They never heard that either.

Thom York is kind of the king of OTT body movements and facial contortions. I find it completely unenjoyable to watch him sing. A physical display of emotions in a performance is something that is often appreciated or valued by the audience. I posted this video last night as an example of someone else, other than Adam, who can communicate the pain behind their words. Watch Adele's face here, she is definitely showing a physical display of the pain she is singing about:

OMG...the chewed gum!! I laughed at first and then thought, man - I'd LOVE to have it!! Haha! Can't blame the person....I'd have dove headfirst into that bin myself. Plus proceeds go to charity (who knows).... "Doll"....I'd melt into a puddle of goo if Adam addressed me as such. Anyone else - not so much. (reminds me of Mickey Spillane and old crime novels where the "doll" is some blonde bimbo smacking gum). Then again, I call many of my male friends "sweetcheeks", you think they're offended? Browsers....I've used Firefox for years and either Norton or Macaffee virus protection. Have never had a virus. Had one malware attempt but Macaffee blocked it immediately. I hesitate to visit MJ's cuz it's full of ads and garbage - (reminder to donate a little so THIS site remains as wonderful as it is at present.) Meatloaf. What a big ol' Bert! I ADORE him for spreading the word about Adam on all these legit music sites. Browsers -- me too -- after many virus attacks on IE which all started when I was visiting various unknown websites with Adam information. Further back on the thread someone mentioned that they have had less trouble once they started visiting here for their information. I think they may be right!

I get what you are saying. And it does sound like the old Idol issue of him being too dramatic. I think perhaps people who are new to Adam might agree with you and see it as over acting. Also, seeing a man with such overt emotions might make some people uncomfortable. Another way that Adam is different. But for me, I don't think Adam is acting. I think he feels his songs. Or maybe he is acting so well he convinces himself. IDK. But the man can sing a song that he has song a hundred times and still make himself cry. It's real emotion. He gets lost in the songs (I love watching how it took him a minute to compose himself after songs in Idol) I think that is what makes him awesome. To ask him to restrain himself and think rather than feel, would certainly take away something magical. And, BTW, a midwesterner/southwesterner here: Ma'am isn't insulting (unless you think it makes you sound old) but isn't used. The endearments Adam uses are not commonly used (outside as relationship) except by Grandma's or Southerners. Certainly not by men, unless they are being condescending to women. I think Adam was lovingly using them because he is comfortable with his feminine side and always colorful.

Remember the GNT video and Adam's reaction while he was walking down the street and someone told him that he looked like a Transformer? He turned around and yelled : A transformer?!?!? But he wasn't annoyed, he was amused by it. That's my reaction to your comparing me with Simon If Adam's "Feeling Good" or "If I Can't Have You" performances on Idol were "Broadway" , I love that! I adore GNT, which is so theatrical. I guess I have a problem with melodramatic, thank you Anjalee. Or, to be more precise, his 'scrunchy' face. Nothing else, or broader than that.

Maybe, along with all the words to the Trespassing songs, there should be an "alternative" glossary of terms, so we not-so-hip folks can understand what Adam is *really* singing about. Or not... ;D
